  1. This has to be false.

Jimmy was just seen by a friend of mine renting a speedboat and some fishing tackle off the west coast of Vancouver Island.

The guy with him apparently looked a lot like George Siefert.

Not necessarily. I now have some unconfirmed reports of a flight plan between Bermuda and Vancouver. Reports say a young man wearing sun glasses and a Harvard jersey boarded the plane who appeared intoxicated.
  2. The down side is we own his rights for another 30 days and can continue to pitch to him. In your scenario we don't have exclusive rights. I hate your idea honestly

I believe what is suggested is to allow him to "talk" with other teams while still holding his rights. This would allow the Sabres to maybe know quickly what his decision is. Don't think this would make our chances any less or any greater of signing him.

  3. LGR's thoughts echo my own, so I'll continue on.

First, GMTM covets Vesey. He trades a third round pick that wouldn't have returned value for years in order to speak to a player he likes and hopes to sign and have an immediate impact on the team. Regardless of whether Vesey signs or not, that 3rd wasn't going to do anything for us anyway for some time if at all. The risk/reward seems perfectly acceptable.

Second, Vesey was not involved in the trade for his rights. That's between Buffalo and Nashville. He intended to go to August 15th and GMTM trading for the rights to speak to him doesn't necessitate any action on Vesey's part. GMTM likely knew this when trading for those rights. Again, GMTM perceived value here. Why Vesey is now being subjected to scrutiny for stating he'll move forward as planned makes little sense to me. Why should his plans change?

Lastly, all this criticism of his honor, or his needing to "know his role" or whatever, is petulant. The man (he is a man, no?) was drafted as a college student (a process that players don't agree to by the way. Anyone can be drafted. Perhaps he didn't want to be drafted in the first place?), and decided that after getting his degree (something many college players forgo) he wanted to continue deciding his fate. He clearly valued his education and elected to value that over entering hockey right away. That's good awareness for the long term. And given the power and opportunity to make a decision on his terms, he should feel no shame.

But please, butthurt citizens of the internet, continue to hem and haw that Vesey owes anyone anything. Looks to me like he earned his right to choose where he starts his NHL career. If you wouldn't do the same, given the choice, then you are either a liar or an idiot.

Couldn't have said it better. Seems that some people's comments (PI2000) are a sour grapes complex or jealousy.
  4. Ennis is worth holding onto see what he does. If he regains his game it will be asset for us or trade value increases. Right now I would think is a bad time to even try to market him. Trade deadline or expansion draft we'll see.

  5. Saying Kulikov solves "little to nothing", when Murray brought him in to play a top 4 role, when he played big minutes last year as a left shot D, and very well in the playoffs, is completely unfair. He's filling a need. Sure, I'd love Fowler too. But Kulkov makes our team better than it was.

    Agree.

  6. We're basically talking about an 11 point jump from last year. Supremely doable. A lot will hinge on Lehner and whoever is the backup.

The goaltending last season went beyond my expectations even with Lehner injury. If it can repeat that then I think k we have chance for sure otherwise a near miss. Still could use another defenseman and sign Vessey.

Not at all. They finished 10 points higher than they should have last year. And they're not any better.

Sorry. They may indeed not be a playoff team but to say on paper they are not better? Ridiculous.

  7. I think this thing is all being blown out of proportion because it happened during a slow part of the off-season, and was the first move the Sabres made. If he signs, he's a mature prospect, having just played 4 years of college, and should be an immediate help to the team.  If he doesn't sign, meh.  It was a third round pick.  That and a $4.45 will get you a grande mocha at Starbucks.  I don't see what the big deal is, especially since it wasn't our only 3rd rounder.

This whole thread reads like it was written by a bunch of middle school boys on a playground.

    This.

  8. Maybe he's not preferring other places. He may simply want to talk to other teams before he makes a decision. Right now he's unable to do that. Am I happy about that? Certainly not. He'll be meeting w/ the Sabres very soon. That could push him over the edge and lead to a signing prior to August 15th. We all know money is not the issue.

Either way if he is "preferring" Buffalo then there would be no reason to wait is the point I'm making. He is not waiting for the best contract which is what drives most free agency moves.

  9. Free agency is literally the most valuable commodity for any professional athlete.  To suggest that he just give that away to do the Sabres a favor is ludicrous.  We're talking about the guy's livelihood here - let him get all the offers and make the best choice for him and his family.  I'd do that, and you would too I imagine.  Waiting for free agency isn't him slapping you or your team in the face, I promise.

You do understand that he is getting the same contract regardless so this isn't about money. It's about where he wants to play. So if he is waiting til August it's because there are other places he might prefer. Simple as that.

  10. Yeah. And was Perreault getting into trouble and waving around wads of cash on TV?

Buying billboards to win back his girlfriend (who might be assumed to have gotten out

before it was too late).  The reports were that he tried to drag a woman out of a bar

and tried to strangle another one!   This isn't a drunk driving his truck into Tim Horton's.

It isn't Tim Horton speeding on speed (and/or alcohol) late at night in his Porsche. This

is an in-your-face millionaire son of a pro boxer reportedly trying to choke a woman.

It's the old frog in the pot who can't sense the temperature change until it's too late.

If you all condone the type of behaviour attributed to Kane, then you'll all like that frog.

I'm old enough to remember a halfway decent society that punished criminals instead

    of giving them fat contracts.

    I've said enough for now.

Thank you. Too many times I see where fans want to over look bad characters just because they enhance their teams chances of winning. Hope if they are parents that they don't parent with the same standards. A lot of these athletes would probably be in prison if it weren't for their athletic abilities.

  11. Not to get all yingy/yangy...But in spite of us "doing nothing" today, today was good.  PK exits the division.

We didn't sacrifice everything for Stamkos.  Detroit and Toronto are sad.  Sounds like a pretty good day to me !!!

Exactly my feelings as well. Good day for us.

  12. Come on. Everyone knew the Sabres weren't getting McDavid or Babcock and everyone knows we aren't getting Stamkos. It's just reality. We have to live in the real world. Eichel, Canalside and Pegulaville aside, it's a generally crummy team, franchise, market and city. That's pretty tough to overcome in the recruiting department.

I think this is said in sarcasm? If not and you are representative of Buffalo thinking no wonder some in the national media beat on us. Heck we seem to do a pretty good job of it ourselves. That said I would be surprised if we get Stamkos and maybe I'm in the minority but it doesn't bother for what I think the cost would be.
