Man is there a place in this world more negative than Buffalo? Jim Kelley was the last decent hockey writer around this franchise.

Please don't tell me that Buffalo needs a new arena. Heck it's not that old. I could care less as long as tax dollars don't fund a new one.
I think if fan support/interest has fallen off it's due to not being in playoffs for a few years and the negativity of Buffalo fans and their willingness in expressing it. I think it does have an effect on fans. Last year particularly was bad and while getting the second pick was great I think fans were turned off to some extent by the whole tank thing and maybe lost interest almost without thinking they were.

I do find it interesting that long term mediocrity has not affected the Bills quite the same way it has affected the Sabres. The only difference I can think of is the tailgating experience.
Absolutely. I think that is the whole attraction for a lot of people going to Bills games. If it weren't for tailgating I think crowds would drop dramatically. If they build a new stadium where tailgating isn't available I think ticket sales will drop by quit a bit.
Other than Doug, all of those things happen at every arena (at least the ones I have been to).
I wonder if there is any correlation between NHL fan enthusiasm and the decline in fighting. If players don't care enough about the game to get mad enough to fight, why should the fans care?
People may not admit it but a significant number of fans were very attracted to the fighting in hockey and many have lost interest in proportion to fighting being ,for the most part, eliminated.

Professional sports has gone down the drain with all this carp. Between challenges and timeouts after almost every play in football it's driving me to not even watch games.

I swear this freaking challenge cheap almost has me ready to kiss this league goodbye. Whether for us or against us I think it sucks.

He's barely passable when describing action that you can watch on TV.
He is a train wreck for anyone listening on the radio. Just terrible at painting the action and his lack of goal calling skills is that much more irritating.

Exactly. I listen to a lot of the games on radio. He is bad only one worst maybe Duff. I like both those guys for pregame or between periods, particularly Duff but play by play please find someone else to spell RJ.

State in the title what you want to talk about. Dunleavy is what? A good cook? A fine purveyor of wine? A Japaneses geisha? A waffle loving fool? A wonderful announcer? A terrible announcer? A flower pot?

Just to clarify the subject line of this thread. It was edited and the intention was to have subject "Dunleavy" alone but obviously the "is" didn't get deleted. My bad. Sure seems like there was an overreaction to the mistake though.

I'm getting to really dislike him as a play by play guy. Just freaking tell us who has the puck and leave the commentary to a color guy.

My son is a policeman although I wish he had another occupation. With the people and situations they deal with on a daily basis let alone the seemingly open season on cops I give them some leeway for bad moods now and then. I do think it's not an excuse to be abusive and I honestly believe that vast majority of officers are not. Thank God we have those guys who are willing to do this job. I wouldn't be. Thank also there families who worry about their loved ones every time they go to work. There are bad cops for sure and they deserve to be covered by the media but now and then let's give the vast majority of good ones some media attention too.JMO

Please no challenges. Hate them really in any sport. Let the officials make the calls or not make them. Worked for years.

Never liked sports nicknames. Guess I prefer using someone's actual name. Detest the adding of "ilsy and such to the end of players names also even though players do it.

6 game losing streak scoring mostly 0-1 goals during that span = bums
If you say so but they have played pretty tough schedule over those six. Agree that they need to score more but look around the league and scoring is low in general. Let's see over next month haw it goes.

Wow, it's not two months in and their "bums". Some fans sure are fragile in their support. Okay they haven't been scoring but this team even in losing looks far better than past seasons. At least give them more time to get it together. This schedule has been pretty hard past few weeks.7 points out of 8th so now or never for these bums
I didn't either but they for the most part are a much more competing team than past seasons. I think the schedule since being .500 has been really tough. Let's see how it goes over next month.I honestly did not think that after 20+ games the Sabres would be at the bottom of the league (29th) in scoring this season.

I like Duff and Dunleavy for between period stuff but if you are like me and listen to many games rather than watch on tv it is painful to listen to Duff or Dunleavy do play by play on radio. You can't even tell half the time where the puck is or which team has it. On tv you don't notice it so much. Hopefully if RJ retires they can get someone better than Duff of Dunleavy for radio play by play.

Not sure he needs to go but not against it. Actually last year was not typical for him as before last season I wasn't all that high on the guy. Still not sold last year was what we will get from him on going and that's a concern to me .

That grab a brew thing is something I do quite often because of this replay crap. I'll be at an aa meeting by the end of a game.

Too early to panic. I would give it another month before I start to seriously worry about our scoring. Scoring is low around the league it seems like. The rest of the months schedule looks pretty tough and I would wait until the middle of December before I make any real judgements. Actually they have played up to my expectations so far. Maybe my expectations were too low but they are all playing with each other for a very short period of time at this point. Goaltending has been better than expected as has our defense in my opinion. I'll give forward lines more time to get together before I panic.

Hate replay crap. It all evens out eventually unless your a conspiracy thinker. Just play the game. If off side isn't picked up by the linesman so be it. We'll win some and lose some. The whole flow of the game is changed by this stuff. Feel the same way about football. My watching enjoyment has not been enhanced one iota by all this replay stuff.

I would not want any significant moves by us until we have a larger sample of games to make judgments on. Thus far it has been better on defense and goaltending than I expected and I am happy with our forward lines for now. Yeah, we all expected more scoring but I'm not for trading any of our forwards right now at least.

Frankly let's just do away with replay. Okay we lose some and we win some calls. Better than scoring and finding out 30 seconds later it's off sides. Just by the off side challenges to date you can see how many goals in the past would have been negated and big deal what goes around comes around. If it's that far off side than the official should be able to make the call almost every time. As a fan all these rule changes have done nothing for me and the flow of the game is impaired in my opinion.
