I certainly think the Hellebuyck contract makes a ton of sense in that context. Especially because the Jets, given their market, aren’t a team that I believe thinks they can risk LT rebuilds, definitely not lightly, but maybe not...at all? Maybe one per GM? But they’ve only had one GM. These extensions represent doubling down again on their OG core from 12 years ago. It’s somewhat frightening and somewhat.. exceptionally respectable.
make no mistake, this is their “we want guys who want to be here”, see, look at these long term guys doubling down to stay. For Chevy a triumphant “SEE, Wheeler was wolf in the hen house, and he’s gone now.”
Sticking point for me is is my anti-Scheifele bias. Whereas I believe Hellebuyck to be probably elite, I’m not convinced Scheifele is good
Until last season, besides Crosby, Scheifele was the only player that had a ppg in the last 6 seasons. His D is suspect but so are a lot of O players.
He definitely would have got more on the open market.

I can’t see either contract going well over the long run. Plus we’ll all learn if Schiefele was part of the cancer in the locker room or if it was purely Wheeler and PLD
PLD wasn't mentioned to be a cancer.
He just wanted out.

Most O players have poor fancy stats.

Wow. Good news for you.
Scheifele not overly surprised with. Did NOT see a Hellebucyk extension. Guess that significantly changes the calculus about what extent of a rebuild/retool is necesary in the near future.
The Jets weren't headed for a rebuild as evidenced on the return for PLD not to mention how many players said that they werent interested in a rebuild.

Scheif and Helle both extend for 7 x 8.5m.

Over, under, too much term, blah blah blah...the important thing is that he is signed and that he signed before the season started so this is done with and won't be lingering all season.

My guess is he knows the cap is going up significantly in the next few years and wants either a short term deal around 3-4 years of an 8 year deal at a price that the Sabres aren't too keen on giving because he will eat up too big of a chunk in the first couple or 3 years of the deal.

How much are they going to dilute this league? Unbelievable.
We've got a good number at 32 teams with 4 divisions.
Why not move the Coyotes to Atlanta?
Probably makes to mush sense/Bettman still won't admit he was wrong about Phoenix.

Oppenheimer was really good.
Peaky Blinders all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JT has made 115m.
It's time for him to retire and take care of his health.

Looks 2 or 3 places too high to me. Hard to tell at this time of year though.

I think Nylander is gone.
Their mistake was what they paid Tavares.
AM will stay and get 13+ but there smartest move would be trade AM for a king's ransom and fix a few areas of their team but that'll never happen.

Technically true but doesn't seem to be the way it works in actual practice.
It definitely does.
A few years back, the Jets had to put Mathieu Perreault on waivers before putting Little on LTIR.
They were afraid someone would claim him.
23 hours ago, Flashsabre said:I forgot about that. They will probably have to move Nylander for picks and then move a pick to have someone take Murray. It will be messy. No way they will be a better team then they were.
You gotta love it!

The team still has to be cap compliant on opening day before the can LTIR anyone.

Who has the cap space?
Sens, NSH, Seattle and Buffalo?

Toronto is now $5M over the cap. Wonder how they’ll get out of this.
Trade Nylander.

The more pressure on KC the more chance the return is diminished. He’s been there a long time but this off season may be his most challenging and his job could be on the line.
He was recently extended.

Chris Johnston said Jets may look to buy out Blake Wheeler
Jets fans can only hope.
I'd retain 3m and trade him.

I missed the boat.
Not too sure how they were doing financially in Winnipeg but this is their third move in less than 5 years.
They had a deal to build a new arena and it didn't materialize.
