Yes, and they bought out the team captain and send their 2C to Kings during the offseason!! And last season the coach shouted out that the stars are lazy (but said in other words). Not what we are used to here.
Not what we were use to here either with Maurice as coach since the beginning of time.
Bones has them playing a structured game and our goalies are playing like allstars.
Scheif is our leading scorer and around 43rd in the league yet the team is in first overall.
Boston, TO, and TO again before the much, much needed break.
We've had a pretty easy schedule except for the last string of 9? games in 15 days. Have a horrendous March/April, so I am glad they are banking points now.

If you go one more game back you would have the 5-1 beating they gave the Bruins.
They have also let in 3 goals or fewer over the last 34 games. Hellebuyck has let in 2 or fewer in the last 19 of 20 games he has played. He leads the league with a .945 sv%. His backup is in 2nd place with a .944 sv%.
They did this with KC out and now Scheif is out.
They sit in 1st place overall this morning.

Possibly Mitts if contract negotiations are not going well, I think he is at peak value right now.
We'll take him.

Calgary -31C (-29F) feels like -41C (-43F).

Costly win losing Scheif.
Looked like a groin pull.
31 games in a row allowing 3 goals or less. The last time they let in 3 goals was December 18th in a 3-2 OT loss to the Habs.

Here's my ranking. It's almost like everything that could go wrong did. The only bright spots were Mittelstadt, Peterka, and Benson. Skinner gets a conditional pass as well, since his linemates appear to have packed it in.
1. Thompson's a lot worse and seems disinterested
2. Our 5 and 6 D are a lot worse
3. KA didn't get a #1 goaltender, and kept Comrie and UPL on the roster
4. Cozens is a lot worse
5. Tuch is worse
6. Samuelson is worse
7. Dahlin's effort is suspect most nights
8. Power hasn't improved at all, especially defensively
9. Quinn has been hurt
10. Krebs is likely not an NHL of any significance but still plays a lot
11. Granato won't play Ryan Johnson despite him being at worst our #5 D.
12. VO and our backlog of offense prospects failed to get moved for defensive help.
13. We still give a roster spot to brain-dead ZG.
14. Big guys like Greenway, Robinson, and Power play like 🐱
#3 is the main reason.
Leaving Levi up to get shell-shocked isn't the smartest move either.
He needs to be in Rochester developing his game. The NHL isn't a development lesgue.

It's still on Adams for not getting a proper NHL goalie for this season.

Bruins on the other hand are on a slide. Maybe that decline is finally kicking in. Winnipeg dominated them tonight.
Winnipeg hasn't let in more than 3 goals in any of the last 22 games.
A 5-2 loss to Vegas on November 2nd was the last time they let in more than 3 goals.
Vilardi has been on fire with 12 points in his last 5 games and has more points than PLD while playing less than half as many games. Actually, Iafallo has more points than PLD as well. Then there's the 2nd and Kupari that Chevy got for him.
I hear the LA fans aren't too happly with old PLD.

Nice! I just bought a PSA .556 to give it a go and I think Im going to be picking up a Walther PDP pretty soon.
I don't own any handguns. You can't hunt with a handgun in Canada and all of my guns are used for hunting except for my Daisy Red Ryder BB gun!

I don’t think I’ve ever seen ruffed grouse in timber light enough to identify one at 75yds.
We see a LOT right on the trails...especially before the leaves are on the ground. Probably more than half the birds we see. They like to come out about 90 minutes before dark to fill their crops with clover that grow on the edges of the trail.
If I am walking in the bush, I will use the Stoeger. Main reason for the short barrel.
The last 3 years, I have never seen the numbers this high. A crazy amount of ruffies.

I went with a model 93 because I am a lefty, and not many lefty rimfire bolt actions out there. I like it. Alot.
I did change the stock though. The plastic stock that comes with the gun felt very hollow and flexible. I bought a stock from Boyds to replace it. It required a small amount of dremel work in the inletting to get it fit right. Maybe 15 minutes and a careful hand. But it looks and feels great.
Those VMax can be pretty destructive. Wouldn’t that tear up too much meat on a ruffed grouse?
It should be good for head shots up to 75 yd.

Why a 22 mag? Just curious.
The Stoeger is the best value per dollar on the market at this point. Good choice!
Way more accurate than the .22 LR.
I bought the 30 grain Hornady VMax bullets...2200 fps at the muzzle.
A ruffie at 75 yards shouldn't be a problem.
I know a couple guys with the Stoeger M3000 but I wanted the one with the 24 inch barrel. Great gun for the money.

The Jets would gladly take Mitts off of your hands if the deal was fair.
@ThornyWe'll give you Copp for Mitts?
Seiously, if he were to be traded, what would you guys expect back (RHD cannot be accommodated)?

Connor just left the game with a knee on knee from Strome.
He got 5 minutes and a game.
Of course, the Jets looked pathetic on the ensuing lpower play.

Did 27 catch him with a butt end to the face?

Bruins were up 3-0 on the Yotes, now only 4-3 in the 3rd. 16 minutes left in the third and AZ on a PP.
Go Yotes!
Zona is too close to the Jets so I am glad they lost.
Don't get me wrong, I have a hate on (for decades) for Boston as much as anyone you'd meet.

There's a crunch here that can be handled but a far worse one in 25-26 where Quinn, Peterka, Levi, and Johnson all come due with only Greenway coming off the books.
Arguably, in order to make some degree of change to the overall roster we'd have to let most if not all of our RFAs leave via trade. Problem being Mitts has finally become a player worth keeping around and Jokiharju has been solid as of now. UPL wouldn't be a cap burden as a backup allowing Levi to hide in Rochester another year and further hone his craft. Krebs is likely a casualty of his contract demands far overreaching his role more than likely.
How much do they get for a bridge deal?
Dahlin is one of the last players I'd trade.

Ahhhhhhhh you think darkness is your ally? You and your Jets merely adopted the dark. As a Sabres fan I was born into it…moulded by it.
I'm guessing that I've been a Jets fan for longer than you've been a Sabres' fan.
hint: I remember the last time the Leafs won the cup.

Which makes the lack of action more frustrating
I know where you're coming from. We lost Buff, Trouba, Myers and Chiarot in one off season and Chevy replaced them with AHLers for the next two seasons.

You need to face the reality of how it works. For example, Philly just swept Pittsburgh in 2 games and both went to OT so Philly moves up 4 points and Pitt still moves up two. You don't catch anybody losing to Nashville.
Only Columbus is behind us. What on earth would make you think we can get in the final 8???
A starting goalie?

The season is far from lost.
5 or 6 points out of a playoff spot and 57 games to go.

You suggested that the only thing keeping them from being a playoff team is a real starting goalie.
I believe their problems run deeper than that.
I agree. I didn't say they are a contender but with a starter, the team should make the post-season.
This summer, the new GM can address the other shortcomings. The Sabres have a lot of young talented forwards. He can figure out which to trade and shore up the team's weak spots.
As I said earlier though, there's a lot of teams needing RHD and this is a position that is hard to upgrade via trade.

Interesting take. What is it about the effort, excluding goal-tending, from these last two games that leads you to that conclusion?
Why exclude goaltending. Which goalie in the system is a starter?
How does a team play when they know their goalie(s) are subpar and let in every 5th or 6th shot?
Get a starter and go from there.

9 games in 15 days isn't that easy, especially the last 4 or 5 games. I think they have won every b2b game this year.
I'm okay if they keep playing like this in the playoffs...they are playing playoff hockey right now in my opinion.
Bones has done wonders but Tippett on the left coast will probably get it and one could argue, deservedly so.
Helle would have done wonders for a few teams around the league.
Brossoit has been just as good to be honest. I remember posting that you guys would be wise to pick him up a few years ago. He knocked us out of the playoffs last year and then got hurt but still got a ring. He'd be a good addition on the Sabres and deserves a shot at being a starter. Hoping Levi or Comrie or UPL would turn into a starter this year was asinine and should be a firable offence. Comrie is your highest paid goalie coming in at 50k more than LB. Basically wasting a year of all your good players just like Chevy did with our AHL D playing in the NHL a few years ago.
