I dont get all this hate on Edmonton developing their players terribly. Their problem is that they have drafted the same type of player year after year because they have had the top pick so often and they are generally the top player in the draft. The 2012 draft was the perfect time for them to trade that 1st overall pick they won to trade down the draft and finally pick up a d-man like Murray or Rielly, but nope, they went for Yakupov. That team needs some defence and a goalie, which they can finally hopefully get since they can trade a piece after getting McDavid.

Sorry my Nucks put a setback on the "Tank" plan.....it was bound to happen though. We beat the good teams and lose to the teams, its kind of our thing...lost to Buffalo and New Jersey on this road trip, while beating the Rangers, Islanders and Bruins lol.

How is it the most likely outcome? Even if the Sabres finish the season with the worst record in the NHL they have an 80% chance of NOT ending up with the #1 pick.

Team leader in points with 44, wow...so sorry I apologize. Kassian had close to the same amount of points compared to TOI as Cody last season, and that was without getting much of any power play time. I guess Kassian is a stud on the Canucks too, I retract my criticism.

Vancouver didn't trade him because they had too many centres, and really you can never have too many centres, because they can often be converted to the wing when needed. They traded Cody because him, his agent and his dad were too much baggage and drama to deal with. Gillis said himself that he spent more time on "Cody issues" then the rest of the teams issues combined. Cody wanted to play a bigger role on the team right out of the gate without paying his dues, and the team was simply too stacked at that time for it to happen. There was also bad blood with management/coaches over the assessment of a back injury he had. Unfortunately Kassian hasnt worked out much better here. The difference is that I dont feel Kassian has been given the opportunity to succeed here, which I am assuming Cody has in Buffalo. It sucks because I really like Kassian and the way he plays..

I have a feeling most of you guys are going to have a more enjoyable time watching the games of the teams all of the Buffalo players end up at, instead of the actual Sabres games ;) haha.

The 3 guys who publicly said they would love to come home to BC to play for the Canucks: Mitchell, Hamhuis and Garrison. It was all over TSN, which is national news (mostly Toronto haha)

Yeah, everywhere I read said that Vancouver made the most sense as a landing destination for Kane. The deals that were floating around were outrageous though, if that was the price I am glad they didn't trade for him, and better off to try again later.

There are way too many players in the NHL who were Leafs fans growing up for them to all play for the Leafs. Lots of kids have no interest playing for their hometown, but the Canucks have had a good track record of bringing a lot of them on the team. I dont think Reinhart has any desire to come to Vancouver, has never given me a reason to think that...Kane is another story though.

I think he will get a better chance in Buffalo to show what he can do. Obviously he has been plagued by injuries as of late, and did not get along with management or his teammates. Given the change of scenery and downtime to finally rehab over the summer I could easily see him return to score 30 goals next season. Ill come back in 3 years and we will see how it plays out :). Evander is a different character though, he really wants to be close to his mom and has said over and over again that he wants to play in Vancouver. He grew up in one of the greatest cities in the world to live in, I dont think it would be unrealistic he would want to return. Unless the Canucks have zero interest in bringing him, that could be the only roadblock.. I'm not trolling, I just found the trade perplexing so wanted to come get some insight from Sabres fans. I thought Buffalo was in a prime position looking 5 years down the road when all of these top prospects and picks hit their prime, but maybe there is pressure to start performing sooner. Who knows what contract the Peg was offering at that time, again he was an RFA, and the contract he did sign puts him right in his prime when he becomes a UFA to sign another big deal. The fact the Sedins are up that season makes it even more likely, as the Canucks should have a lot of free cap space opening that off season. This is the Sedin's last contract, they are heading back to Sweden when its done. Sell-offs dont always make teams worse...young players and players who are in contract years playing for a job often excel when given the chance.

He was an RFA then, his negotiation power was limited and he wanted to get paid after his rookie contract, which he has now. UFA is a totally different ball game. The Sabres MAY be worse, but the western conference is stronger, and the playoff race to the finish is going to be intense for pretty much every team in the West. Edmonton also just lost their best player for 6 weeks to injury. I personally think they will finish lower than the Sabres this season.

The trade for Kane seems like a weird move to me. Sure the Sabres are better for the short term future once Kane is in the lineup next season, but I dont see Buffalo as a threat in the next 3 season. Kane will be coming home to VanCity once he is a UFA in 3 seasons, so enjoy him while you can. Also curious why is everyone talking like its a lock the Sabres are getting either McDavid or Eichel? The Oilers are a pretty awful team as well, and could easily finish below them in the standings. If the Sabres finish 2nd place there is a 66.5% chance that a team lower than them would win the lottery and bump them to 3rd pick.
