  1. That might have been one of their best overall efforts of the season even if the scoring wasn't quite there.

Not a pretty game though. But gritty. I get the feeling the motto in the locker room tonight was "be first to the puck".

First period was a -23 corsi, so not a whole game, but after that they where the better team leaving me shacking my head wondering why not a whole game.

  2. Rob's Christmas story says otherwise!

But, yeah, Ted can't get credit for anything.

Ted personally, or just any Head Coach can't take credit for a player having a better year than his previous few.?

He's buying that extra second for himself this year, it's awesome.  I love me some Ennis and am flabbergasted when people want to trade him for Kane.

Ennis was almost ruined by Ruff. Nonsense. He scored 20 goals in his first full NHL season.

I think it's sarcasm, he was being nice to me, I didn't see need to push him further. I think I unwittingly drug out a dead horse.

  3. d4rksabre I believe he can play and hold his own in the NHL same as you. But on a personal note, those years 18-19-20-21, were great for me. Made great friends and did stupid kid/adult stuff, he's missing that, and I feel sorry for him if he's not getting that experience. Not sure if this makes sense, but to much on someone so young, that should be having the best years of his life, that he will never get back.

  4.

I trust in Chz completely to know the exact perfect time to start a GDT, or anything else, for that matter.

And it's 2:00 PM in Halifax.  So, it's even worse than you thought ...  :P

Well, TIL where Halifax is  I always pictured it directly above the Rochester-->Buffalo area.

No paradise for you tonight ...

As usual, great song NS

I am getting my ass kicked with trying to break this quote apart right now

It 5 o'clock somewhere, and that means this post is completely coherent to someone that started happy hour early.

  5. No apology necessary. While I was never Darcy's biggest critic, his fatal flaw was also my biggest pet peeve. Identifying players with an edge who can contribute. It seemed he could find one or the other but never a good combination. Foligno, Kassian and McNabb were nice attempts at the end of his run but in hindsight it just looks like a wild swing for the fences. Three strikes and he's out (although mcnabb does seem to be flourishing in LA, Lindy hates toughness!!!)

Thank you, and we share the same thoughts on Darcy. I was preaching to the choir.

  6. INKMAN, I must also apologize. I re-read my earlier post to directed to you. You may believe that I was being derogatory towards your compliment of Armia. It was not my intent if you took it that way. I believe Darcy drafted many very good hockey players. They where all good skaters, with good hands , and good playmaking ability, it's just that maybe this is the one that is truly a top 6 player on a good team, as you believe he is and I hope you are right.

I know I'm in a minority, but I believe Darcy did well, considering the limited scouting and budget he was afforded till his last half season.

  7. I'll be shocked if GMTM doesn't make a move or three in the off-season to get this rebuild time line moved up.

He has said as much, and I think we are all holding him to it. My patience is wearing thin and I think we all feel the same. I  can sense it, as many others must reading each others posts.

I keep telling myself that next years team may very well look just as bad as this years, GMTM is due his third year before judgment, but it's a hard sell.

  8. His numbers don't blow you away but I think with Reinhart or McEichel he could really flourish. Not in a mop up jam in a rebound kind of way either. He has elite hands. Give him the puck in space and he'll dazzle.

I think your right, I think he has a great chance, but you also described a prototypical Regier prospect. Not saying they (any Regier draft pick) are not , nor could ever be a really good hockey player. To me it was the greatest failing of Regier as GM, to many of the same, hoping for a different result.

  9. I don't consider the 3 on the team prospects anymore. They are now regulars on the worse team in the league. I don't consider Mackinnon, Eckblad, etc prospects either. They have made the jump.

What we have behind these 3 is one top prospect and a whole bunch of question marks. Am I the only guy who isn't slightly concerned with this??? Yes, we have McEichel possibly coming. And we have probably 4 more players that we can add to the prospect pool.

Call me Debbie Downer but I am not hanging my hat on the two guys in Rochester. They could go either way IMO. As for players in juniors and college. You might get 2-3 guys that can help in 2-4 years.

Why do I say all this?? Because Murray is not going to sniff a Cup by sitting on his hands with what he has in his toolbox. He has to take a few risks. Turning Myers into 3-4 players is a risk I can live with. Taking a gamble on Kane is worth it IMO.

I will get butchered for this but I can honestly see a team next year without Stafford/Stewart/Mitchell/ and Enroth being worse than this year.

    He needs to be aggressive!!

I have absolutely no arguments with all this except .. He needs to be aggressive!!

Murray needs to be one of the best GM's in the league, to build one of the best teams in the league.  Aggressive is considered a good trait for a GM, but one of many.

  10. This is exactly what you want your system to look like. Get a few can't miss prospects, then load up on as many second tier guys as possible because a large number of those second tier guys are going to miss. You need redundancy in the system to account for this reality. As much as we'd all love to have 15 elite prospects, that's just not possible; so load up on decent prospects knowing in advance many won't make it.

Jimmy Johnson said the exact same thing about his draft picks.  All the Super Bowls successes he accounted to having more draft picks than almost any other team. The more changes you give yourself to succeed, the greater the chance of success, or something to that nature is what I believe Jimmy said.
