  1. Like I suggested in the PP thread, guys like Adam Oates are available. Matt Ellis may end up being a HC somewhere, someday. There are a number of different skills required for that. It just seems an odd thing that he is in charge of a PP at the NHL level. Top coaches like Scotty Bowman, Al Arbour and Qunneville were often journeymen players or in Bowman’s case, not NHL players. Top players like Gretzky, Richard, Howe, Orr, Lemieux, Lafleur etc… were not very successful or even attempt coaching. In Rocket Richard’s case, he lasted 1 or 2 games as coach of the Nordiques before quitting. He couldn’t understand why pro players didn’t have the same drive he had.
  2. Maybe Shane Pinto was throwing muffins at the goalie’s chest, per the bookie’s request.
  3. He looks like an odd man rush.
  4. I think that’s what they are using when they say things like Makar has skated 4.2 miles tonight and JJP has hit a top speed of 24.7 mph.
  5. Canada’s World Junior team is having a training camp in Oakville this week. Final cuts are tonight. Savoie didn’t play in yesterday’s game vs USports all stars so I would take that meaning he is a lock to make the team. They have 4 goalies at camp and all 4 of them played 1/2 game yesterday, two suited up for each team. Ratzlaff had the best save % of the four. They play another game this afternoon and then announce the final roster.
  6. If you are on the PP and give up a shortie that is a dash 1, a big one.
  7. Sens burn one of their games in hand, losing 4-1 to Carolina, who snap a 4 game skid.
  8. Beautiful goal, long breakaway from his own end on the PK. Forehand, backhand roof. Crazy stat, St Louis has 8 shorthanded goals this year, more than PP goals.
  9. Not sure, I know I’m not changing my socks until their next loss, lol.
  10. That must have been the fastest I’ve ever heard the Canadian anthem sung. It may even contribute to the team having a better start, not standing around too long, losing their energy, just throwing something at the wall here.
  11. I revisited that draft and see that Leinonen and Brennan were often the top two goalies available in mock drafts. A high second round pick is definitely a risk as it was not viewed as a strong goalie class. Brennan is playing in the ECHL. Looking at all of the goalies selected in that draft, DeVincentiis is currently the best imo. He will probably be 1or 2 for Team Canada at the WJ. He was OHL goalie of the year last season. He was picked in the 7th round by Winnipeg.
  12. Donnie dropping the F bombs. I know more time in Rochester will not hurt him but I don’t trust Comrie.
  13. Tage is definitely playing mostly and east-west game. It allows the back pressure to catch up and then he tries to dangle his way out of trouble. Tuch on his line gained the zone with speed and then they could perform some magic. Cozens had a few bursts last night that reminded me of last year, I think he gets the gorilla off his back very soon. Mitts needs to shoot more. Quite often these guys are trying to pick high corners and miss the net, I like the low shots for rebounds when you have more players on the ice. Of course you need to crash the net for rebounds.
  14. You didn’t like this pick from the get go, neither did I. They could have gotten him or any goalie much later in that draft. There is still time for him to develop into something but his game seems to be going the wrong way.
  15. This is a classy move by the organization as well. The goodwill gained from this will pay off. The kid has been away from home for two seasons and committed to his development in the organization. Going to Europe during the holidays will be good for him to re-energize. I’m sure his family will travel to Sweden to be with him. Doesn’t hurt his development to play with his peers once again and be one of the best players there.
  16. Kulich will really help the Czech squad. He should be a major force in this tournament.
  17. I can handle him right now but he will probably revert to his perimeter play looking to be set up style. He will disappear from this roster by July 1st, maybe the trade deadline.
  18. Ratzlaff has a shot at one of the 3 goalie slots for Canada. Leinonen may be in the same situation for Finland. Not sure if Panocha will play for Germany. Strbak will be with Slovakia as well.
  19. Even if he doesn’t become an everyday 4th liner he can be the 13th F to finish the season. He has already helped the team get a few points.
  20. He probably felt like he was back in the game. The trainer patching him up to so he could continue just felt right.
  21. Robinson has contributed to some improved play and helped the team get a few points. As you point out, he may be a JAG soon enough, but he may realize this is his last chance and play hard for another contract. By the way, the asset traded for Stillman was Bloom. He has just been demoted to the ECHL after getting 1 point in 14 AHL games. I thought he would be a decent AHL forward but things are not looking good.
  22. But perimeter play allows you to show off your edge work and dangling ability.
  23. DG credited Jeremiah Crowe with pushing for Robinson. If he doesn’t get 45 games the Sabres aren’t even on the hook for the 7th rounder. This could happen if he platoons with Girgs/KO.
  24. Way better fit with those guys than a rookie like Rosen.
