The Sabres are near the top of the teams able to take on salary. KA has not weaponized his past pile of cap space, maybe this year, since he said the playoffs were the goal.

Chytil has been out since Nov. 2nd so my guess is they doing this retroactively.

Since KA didn’t address the goalie issues, going with the three headed monster until one emerges as the alpha was his plan. He’s lucky UPL has found this level. He probably thought it would be Levi. I was hoping for more from Comrie. Between his injuries and his inconsistent play, he has made himself non extendable.

Only 1 of their first 8 opponents was a playoff team last season.

Is that even achievable?

One of the reasons I avoid this place after a bad loss.

I was talking about him in the summer, before he announced he wasn’t going to play this season. He could’ve been load managed to keep him fresh. He would help the PK and teach these guys how to win draws.

Detroit was lower than Ottawa on my rebuild rivals list. They have now moved into a tie. I’ve never been a Kane fan, now I can cheer against him for a while longer.

I now want to knock Detroit out of the playoffs.

He protects the puck so well with his big body below the goal line. Sometimes it’s just a subtle play but it allows him to start the breakout. He has that ability to break ankles in the offensive zone too, he’s still improving, which is scary good.

Oh well, I didn’t have my heart set on him signing with the Sabres. I was on the fence because of his defensive play and whether he can actually play again at a valuable level. Here’s to beating the Wings.

Blown that one? Early returns since all of these guys have fewer than 200 games played. Perfetti has the best PPG avg at .61. He is skilled but softer than VO, no thanks. Rossi is finally an NHLer but only has 11 points in 19 games this year. Mercer has regressed, 6 points in 19 games. Schneider is looking like a top 4 Dman down the road but is 6th in TOI on that team. We will never know with Quinn but there is a good chance he would be putting up numbers similar to JJP this year. He is at .51 PPG so far in his career.

I didn’t post during the game, trying to take it all in and not wanting to jinx the Sabres. What a win, I sure don’t miss the negativity. UPL was great, that’s what a #1 plays like. It should be his net now. JJP broke the ice and he has been the most consistent guy from day one. He’s taken the next step, Quinn is on deck. Mitts and Tuch stepped up big time, Mitts worked so hard and Tuch playing like a power forward. Benson playing a regular shift and even protecting the lead at the end. He is good and will only get better. KO is still too slow but contributing. Need that secondary scoring. VO can stay for a little while longer. Joki was solid, great pass at the end of the game. These guys are like Jekyll and Hyde, gotta find that balance to potion dilution. I’ll sleep better tonight.

I have listened to their music for over 4 decades and didn’t know they were Haligonians.

I met a guy last week who does analytics for the Leafs, Marlies and Raptors. He explained that there are many guys at each game compiling data. The tasks are different for him every time. He will have a player or two to track and there are often specific things to track, that can change from game to game, player to player. He gets different players in order to prevent biases. Even though he was a young guy (30ish) he used pen and paper and later transferred everything to his tablet to submit his report. Things like possession time, zone time are tracked using stopwatches. He reviews video a bit to clarify/confirm a few issues but most of his work is live, he says you cannot get the whole picture from video only. He does home games only for the Leafs/Raptors but he does travel with the Marlies since they have two buses going.

You’re right, every game is winnable. It is the mindset that prevents it from being so. The better team wins more of the games but no one goes 82-0 or 0-82. They should of learned from the last game what sense of urgency looks like.

I’ve seen April Wine a few times. They had a solid group of songs, they recorded for quite a few years. I saw them in small arenas so the acoustics weren’t the best but most of the crowd was into it because of a good band coming to a rural town.
