It's posted upthread a bit. A Boston Globe writer did a piece on him right before the 4th of July. After using several direct quotes from Vesey, the reporter wrote the following (which is not a "demand" as some here have stated):
His checklist when considering where to play, said Vesey, will include the prospective team’s coach, its style of play, and whether both sides could envision him playing among the top six forwards and also on the power play. He’s not only looking at his first NHL deal, but the next one, one that will be all the more lucrative if he has goals and assists as bona fides.
You can post that at the top of every page, but people still won't get it. Someone will ask a loaded question like "what demands are you speaking about". We can call it what we want, but it is still a "demand". Vesey holds ALL the cards. If a team doesn't offer a top-6 position and he wants one, he will walk. The team won't get to sign him. So, in effect, it is a "demand".

I agree. It was said tongue-in-cheek and was likely insensitive. I didn't mean to disrespect the plight of how African-Americans were treated in the past. However, I still think this is being done in the very same spirit and is blatantly prejudicial. The club said he was not trespassing, but he was arrested (with much fanfare) for that very same thing. That does not add up. This simply would not be happening if he was white. Sorry for bringing race into it, but I'm a Conservative and even I think this situation stinks. If (presumably) white folks are on a hockey message board (anything whiter in the world?) talking about how a black hockey player's being treated, I say it's best to avoid using the term.
I'm sure Carl Paladino would differ with me on this. And then maybe he'd blame an intern.
It's helpful for me to remember the original context:
The fact that some (white) people are dog-piling on the (black) rabbit a bit shouldn't be likened to a lynching. Not in my book, anyway.
(And I don't mean to make too much of this, kas23. Sorry if it seems like I am.)
If he did those horrible things to those women, then arrest him for that crime. If they don't have the proof to prosecute him for these accusations, then maybe they are just that.
-
Then there really isn't a case, is there?
Don't let that minor detail derail this public lynching. In fact, I heard he was parked in a handicapped spot too. Should've shackled him.
-
It's amazing how many teams are now lined up to trade for the player who was just cuffed on the 11 o'clock news. In fact, it's a bidding war.
-
This whole situation is ridiculous though. The trumped up charge and the dog-and-pony handcuff show, none of which happened with ROR or Patrick Kane. I understand these are different scenarios, but I doubt they were any less guilty. In either case, their situations were very suspect. Call it what you want, but they guy has an obvious target on his back.I am one who has deep feelings for civil rights but do we need to reduce everything to white, black,or whatever color of choice? Once again the media seems to and we buy into it. Is there any such things as objective thinking or do we automatically assume the worst?
The charges are crap. Under no circumstances, with the lawyer he has, will he serve jail time or be found guilty. So, you have to ask, what is the purpose of this or who will benefit?
This was not done at the Sabres request. It kills his trade value. If the Sabres were involved, they would told BPD to kill the charges and they would ship him out of town.
-
So, my wife and I had a conversation about this. I am convinced this smacks of the city cooperating with the Sabres in a last ditch effort to scare/reform Kane. The Sabres are the only ones who benefit from today's activities.
And also plummets his trade value. I don't think this had anything to do with the Sabres.
This likely has to do with: you know that black guy on the Sabres? He must be doing something wrong. Keep a close eye on him and charge him if needed.

You are correct.

It does. Because it's a standard term used in the field of probability:Yes, if only we had 1,000,000 third round draft picks.
And, once again, the odds don't change. Although "independent events" has a nice ring to it.
https://www.mathsisfun.com/data/probability-events-independent.html
Another way of looking at it:
Given 1 in 10 players make it to the NHL. You draft 3 players. Then what is the probability that at least 1 makes it to the NHL? Or, what is the probability that Player X or Player Y or player Z makes it to the NHL? Key word is "or".
In math terms: P(X or Y or Z)=P(X) + P(Y) + P(Z)
Where P=probability
There would be a 3/8 chance at least 1 of these players makes the NHL.

Scroll down to the where example.

No, it's not. The point is that even if you had 100 third round draft choices, the odds of any of them succeeding in the NHL is 1 in 4. All you have with those 100 picks is 100 chances to hit on a 1 in 4 probability. People like to throw out terms like, "the odds are", when the odds don't change at all. It's the old coin toss scenario.
GO SABRES!!!
This is true because a single player making an NHL team are independent events. However, if you look at it from the Sabres perspective, they care about just 1 of the 3rd round picks making the NHL. Now, we are no longer talking about independent events, so the odds that at least 1 of those players making it goes up.
If you buy 1 million tickets for a lottery and there's a 1:1,000,000 odds of winning, you have an excellent chance of winning. Your odds of taking home the money is very high, but the odds of having 1 winning ticket is still 1:1,000,000.

True - but that Harvard BS degree is worth more than $2m - ha
I don't know too many people who would exchange $2 million for a Harvard degree. Especially a diploma in political science. That said, when you're coddled, you don't learn the value of money.

And presumably play a few games early in the season.
Got it. Makes sense now.
-
To be honest, I sort of want him, because he just might pan out. But these shenanigans remind me of Lindros' BS w/Quebec. Lindros could have signed with Quebec/Colo. and won a cup or more, unlike winning nothing with Philly. If Vesey was pulling this schit with a Carolina or a Vancouver or some other tire-fire franchise, I might cut him some slack. But when he is pulling this nonsense with a team that is an ideal fit for him (at least from a purely hockey-oriented position), then I can't help but think he's got his head so far up his ass that it's actually coming out out of his mouth.
I totally agree with everything you said, but the Lindros comment. I like to play "what if..." games and I'd say that Quebec/Colorado would never have won those cups if Quebec hadn't traded Lindros away.

What exactly would be the benefit or purposes of having him sign his ELC if the Sabres are not going to send him to Rochester (or give him a roster spot)? He could go to Sweden or OHL without an ELC, correct?
-
I wouldn't pay $11 for a pitcher of Guiness nor $1 for a bottle of Labatt's.
-
That's awesome. We'll have to see what he thinks about the snow though.
-
This is easily one of the worst trolling attempts I've ever seen.
Why thank you. I try my best.
But seriously, if we were in Nashville's shoes, this board would have imploded.
-
Watching Samson on his 9 game try out, I have to agree with Hoss, was actually scared someone would level the kid.
True. But it appears there was absolutely no ill-effects on his development. The exact opposite rather.
-
Nylander will barely set foot in Buffalo. He needs to mature and Rochester or Sweden is the best place. He's not ready.
Based on what? His age?
-
What's his secret deal going to be? 1 year and then head of instruction at Harborcenter?
It's possible. He's been working with boys all his life. He'll need an adjustment year of working with men. Then, who knows?

I would like to see him complete school and become FA after August 15th. It's in the CBA, so he deserves the right to maximize his career.

He was talking, being led on, by a Boston reporter
But isn't this what a great interviewer is supposed to do? They say certain things to get people talking. If the interviewer brought up Boston and Vesey didn't become animated, he likely would've moved on to a different subject. This interviewer hit the jackpot with bringing up Boston. He did a great job because it really gives us insight into Vesey's thinking, which is what an interview is suppose to do.
-
Nashville isn't in the northeast. They didn't satisfy his list.
So location trumps all. Glad that's settled.
-
Why didn't he sign with Nashville then? They satisfied his list. He's already said what he's basing his decision on. He has said nothing about facilities, city, things to do the area, etc.... playing a role.
In addition, from the BN article, I just loved how he thanked Buffalo for giving him his practice interview.
Evander Kane arrested on misdemeanor charge for June nightclub incident

What specifically doesn't make sense?
I think you need to read this:

http://motherjones.com/media/2015/09/patrick-kane-sexual-assault-case-explainer
2 women assaulted. 1 perpetrator. Why was P Kane not arrested on some trumped up charge of harassment or some other bogus charge?
So, to answer question: Yes. I firmly believe that if his name was Patrick and had a pale looking face, this arrest would NOT of happened. Can I be any clearer?
