Have you been to Raleigh in the last decade? I can easily see how someone would prefer Raleigh to Buffalo.

I have not in fact. Last time I was there must’ve been close to 20 years ago. May check it out. Would’ve hoped the same could be said of Buffalo, which definitely has changed, but at a much slower clip. Either way, I live in a DC suburb now, so look down at most other places (but still don’t like living here!)

It's the wife that makes the decision.

    And she ain't picking Buffalo

I don’t doubt this is true, but to say someone prefers Raleigh-Durham to Buffalo is kind of funny. I mean, neither are glamorous places by any stretch of the imagination, but I guess weather and taxes win out.

You wonder why some of these guys don’t have credibility.

If true, either Berube said no to an interview or Adams just BSed everyone and only talked to Ruff.

Either way I don’t care but the larger optics aren’t great.

I think we can all agree this was never about the Sabres interviewing candidates. It was about candidates interviewing Kevyn Adams and the rest of the organization. I don’t doubt Adams reached out and spoke to some, maybe even double digits, but many of these conservations were probably very short. He also didn’t tell how far back these conversations occurred. Could’ve been done any time over the last 3 months.

Absolutely, but the players who avoid the front of the net like it’s a quarantine zone will find their ice time significantly reduced

When I see an entire team avoiding the front of the net, or I see players initially doing so after being traded to the Sabres but then soon stopping this behavior, I see this as a coaching issue and not a player one.

    Mofo is 6'7" 190lbs. There's a 6th round flier type of pick.

That’s interesting. Miroslav was 6’3” (I never knew he was this tall). So, I tried to find out how tall the mom is. Here’s a picture. Remember, Miroslav is 6’3”. She looks like she’s at least 5’11”. She’s not even standing fulling upright

So the Wings were smart to lock $30M into Debrincat, Copp, Compher, Chariot, Holl and Husso to not make the playoffs?

And Kane “knew something” because he picked the 41-win Wings over the 39-win Sabres?

    🤔

I’m fairly certain there are players on that list above SS was clamoring for to add “veteran grit”. Even a goalie too.

Crazy that learning the Granato system ended his good play.

He stopped being a factor after about a week.

Can’t wait for an NHL coach and system.

Thank God it’s going to change. We saw it with Robinson and Byram. They came in charging the net and standing in front of the net. Once they learned the “system”, this seemed to go away. The best part is that Benson didn’t seem to buy in. Thankfully he never changed.

  8. People want to point their fingers at Big Pharma and how can they profit off of people’s misery and they are the cause of our ballooning health care costs, but they are nothing compared to what is going on with large hospital networks. Pharma makes it no secret they want to profit and have no direct say in people’s medical care. But, now we have hospitals whose very existence is to make a profit. They may call themselves a non-profit, but the people running them are laser focused on making money.

Private practices are becoming a relic with most of them are being bought up by very large hospital networks. This poses 2 issues. The physicians are no longer their own boss and medical decisions are now made to maximize profit. Physicians themselves will never go along with this model, so as a result, are being forced to double/triple book patients or being laid off. And it’s definitely not due to a lack of demand. Now with private equity becoming more involved with healthcare, this is only going to worsen.

Reading between the lines, it seems as though KA wanted to fire Granato during the season but Terry said no. Instead, KA had time to think about it and to make a plan. I'm not sure if that's good or bad, but it doesn't give me a good feeling. All of Adam's previous plans have worked out so well after all. Maybe the added heat from his own job being on the line will be the catalyst needed to improve upon his previous decision making process.

I got this as well, that non-hockey reasons were driving him not being fired in-season. And I’m actually OK with this. If he was fired Jan 1st, I’m not sure results would’ve been different. The damage had been mostly done. Plus, in all likelihood, Appert would’ve been named Interim. And if we went on a winning streak, then what? Most of the Interim coaches in recent Sabres memory shows they did well-enough to be handed the job. Would we have been satisfied knowing it would be Appert going forward? I’m glad we’ll be starting with a clean slate.

There is no way we’re paying Cozens 7M to not be the 2nd line center next season imo.

Well, we kind of already did this year. Mitts time on ice was 18:16 and Cozens was 17:11. Not counting Tage, if a C is playing better than Cozens next year, he’ll get more playing time.

FWIW Jeff Marek put in Hus Rink Fries Weekly Blog he wonders if Seth Appert and a veteran assistant would be the direction the Sabres go if they move on from Granato. He is the first national media member to bring up Appert

And let’s hope he’s not brought up again. The only way I would consider Appert is if, once Adams signs some winning vets, we give Donnie a 10-15 game trial at the beginning of next season and he fails. Then fire Meatballs and give the interim tag to Appert.

At wing they need a power forward and some muscle on the 3rd and 4th line.

They are close.  Some of the young players will improve.

Another key is if Levi can play effectively as a backup and play 30 games at a high level.  If he can, we should be good at goalie for a change.

OMG. This is like Groundhog Day. I swear these exact sentiments were said same time last year. It has to become true at some point though, right?

  13. Not only do they fail to get on the board in the 1st period, they also suck in the beginning of the year. To me, I think the reasons for this are the same. They are either unprepared or unwilling to play hard out of the gate. They prefer to respond when it’s do or die. I don’t know if this is due to coaching or the players, but it’s ultimately the coaches job to fix this.

I disagree and always find it weird that so many right handed people shoot right. A lot of hockey is played with only one hand on the stick. Why would you use your non-dominant hand for that?

The one-handed comment is probably the key here. If you are going to play with one hand, it’s going to be the dominant hand and it’s going to be at the top of the stick for reach. So, dominant hand is at the top.
