  1. Mediocre is a hell of a lot better than this. Mediocre gives you a chance.

You must love Buffalo sports then, the epitome of mediocrity. Doesn't it get old? You understand this city has never tasted a championship, right?

Our franchise owners have loved this attitude: good enough to keep butts in the seat, but not too good where'd they actually have to spend money on the team.

As someone mentioned previously, the NFL has had no issues with tanking and giving 1st picks to the worst teams.

I wonder if it has more to do with parity. Players never intentionally tank in any sport. And in the NFL, any team can win on a given Sunday. Plus, the NFL doesn't have an annual player sell-off, which can have instant and impressive effects on tanking.

  2. I'm fairly certain the tank is going to bring more fans in than alienate existing ones.

I'm (as usual, for some reason) also with Blue. Furthermore, it is as yet undetermined whether an intentional tank of this magnitude is an act of sheer incompetence on a massive scale. It hasn't been proven to work... yet.

Two words for you: Mario Lemieux.

  3. Yep. Let that sink in. Someone held onto Mitchell for too long.

I'm not going to worry over 3rd and 4th liners, especially 3rd and 4th liners on the Sabres. They're a very special type of NHLer. Seriously, we're not missing much and if we are, we can re-sign them this summer.

  4. So what does Maloney do? Did he take the past month off? Is it Darcy's show in the desert? I can't buy that an assistant GM is running their franchise.

It's called influence.  No one operates in isolation and the guy values Darcy.  But, I do have another quote for you, from the same article, for entertainment purposes only:

It's also likely Maloney leaves Regier holding down the fort with the Coyotes at times so Maloney can get out and scout more often than he's been able to the past few years.
  5. Why is darcy getting so much credit around here? He's a glorified scout. Unless you read this board, we make him sound like the VP of hockey operations. Surely he's in everyones ear planting seeds for tank ideas! Surely he's behind it all!

    Horse ######!

Regier's duties will cover the entire hockey operations department – from working with the team's minor-league affiliate and scouting the pros and amateurs to being involved in adding NHL players, dealing with contracts and handling staffing issues.

"You name it, he'll be involved in it," Maloney said….

Since they've known each other for more than two decades, Maloney considers Regier his closest friend on the management side of the NHL. But this hire wasn't a handout.

"This was all about what do the Arizona Coyotes need to be better and more successful, and I cannot think of anybody better or more qualified and that can help us improve," Maloney said.

No way, Darcy just couldn't have anything to do with the downward spiral occurring in Arizona.  Just impossible.
