The Dems did not have a filibuster proof majority. So the Repubs prevented legislation from coming to a vote.

Trump supporters are attracted to the style over substance. They have a visceral quick fix mentality without thinking out the consequences of Trump's general solutions that are without details. Examples are rounding up all illegal aliens, preventing all Muslims from entering the country, and bombing the sh@t out of oil fields. Trump's message is appealing to xenophobic mostly blue collar white heterosexuals who "want their county back" from the people who aren't like them.

The flat tax sounds fair but is in fact regressive for those who make less, as sales taxes and fees to make up the difference would disproportionately take up a larger percentage of the middle and lower class incomes.
