Frazier and Dorsey weren’t the ones getting pushed backwards on 3/4s of the snaps.

Head coach didn't have the team ready. Completely inexcusable. Good possibility the players have tuned him out. It's pretty obvious he's taken this team as far as he ever will.

What do they need to free up Knox for?  To make gelatin?  Because he's pretty useless as a blocker and not much better with his catching unless he just happens to be in an end zone.  He certainly doesn't help the team get NEAR said end zone.

Good thing they're paying him top 5 TE money.

Need to fire Mc Clappy. He's out coached every year. They won't do this, but they should blow it up and try to rebuild it better. May not be so good for a year, but this doubling down on current coaches and some players is never gonna work. Obviously.

  3. We haven't utilized cap space over the last couple seasons, despite having tons and tons of it.  Utilizing cap space costs money and unfortunately the bottom line is still the most important factor to Kevvy and Terry.  Hopefully that ends after this season, but I'm not holding my breath.

They may sell vets if they can, but they're very happy being (artificially) at the cap floor and conducting the slowest rebuild possible.  It lets them sell hope with less responsibility for the outcome and save money.  Pretty good gig they've set up for themselves.  No wonder there's no management urgency even while enduring the longest playoff drought in NHL history.

    Nah.

More than a few people were saying the team we saw to end last season was the real them. People were touting their record to end it endlessly. Saying they had established that as a consistent pace at this point. It’s pretty disingenuous to now be like “oh well the majority knew they wouldn’t come close to playing how they finished to end the year”

Quite bogus tbh and an incorrect representation of the optimism of the offseason

“Extremely obvious” we’d only be incrementally better? Your post almost reads as satire honestly because of how inaccurate the characterization was. Plenty predicted playoff bubble/the thought we could fight for a spot all year.

What’s incremental improvement, 80 point? Most were sitting mid-high 80s or low 90s.

And even BEYOND that, we are currently pacing for 68 points.

    - - -

Leading option was: somewhere around 90 PLUS points and playoff bubble

Second option is modest improvement listed at 80-90 so let’s break it down the middle and say 85. So the board leaned towards a combination of 90 plus and mid 80s.

Great post.  There was also a lot of scoffing when Vegas put our season point total O/U at 77.5, but Vegas knows what they're doing.  Should have been a sign.

High End Forwards (1st & 2nd rd picks)

    Savoie, WHL - 15gm 7g 13a 20pts (1.33 pts/gm - down slightly from 1.39 last year)

    Östlund, SWE1, 16gm 2g 9a 11pts

    Kulich, AHL - 13gm 2g 6a 8 pts

    Rosen, AHL - 13gm 2g 7a 9 pts

    Kisakov, AHL - 9gm 2g 1a 3 pts

Poltapov, KHL - no stats (IR?)

    Hopefully not mobilized.

  6. I'm shocked!  Scraping the bottom of the barrel for goaltenders and taking whoever is left at the end of the day doesn't work?  It could be worse, we almost didn't get Comrie.  KA offered him less to start here than backup in Winnipeg again.  We were very close to Anderson/UPL again.  Actually now that Comrie is injured, that looks like what we'll get for awhile.

  7. Wow, were all the rose colored glasses people (the vocal majority of the board all offseason) so wrong.  They aren't really trying to win now and it shows.  Their whole point of existence is to be young and cheap.  Ownership/management directive of being (artificially) at the cap floor ensures there will be no depth in case of injuries, as we're seeing.

To answer the question of what we did wrong, I think we let Terry off the hook too easily.  He's the worst owner in NHL history (putrid record and unprecedented playoff drought), but many fans put up with all this BS all because Buffalo.  We apparently don't deserve a good hockey team, but sure are glad our ***** team stays.  Our standards are way too low and we get what we allow and accept accordingly.

  8. I think it's time they move on from Mittlestadt.  Hopefully they're trying to showcase him, but it's not like he's playing well anyway.  Him being in the lineup and given opportunity after opportunity is maddening.  They definitely love him more than I do, however, so who knows?

  9. Like it or not, "superfans", but it's gonna take awhile for the regular fans to come back.  11+ years of embarrassing play on the ice, tone-deaf ownership who has not cared much about the fans, and we're still a cap floor team with suspect goaltending that really isn't trying too hard to win too soon.

And no, 30 games last year where they played kinda well but were already out of contention, and a 6-3 start this year are not enough to declare our suffering over.  Most are ready to anoint Adams and Granato saviors, but neither has accomplished anything yet.  If we can get a half season where we're playing well and battling for the playoffs, the arena will come to life.

Gotta say, watching the Mets absolutely piss the NL East title away over the past few weeks had been more painful than being a Mets fan usually is.

In true Mets fashion.  Getting swept by the Cubs was almost as good as getting swept by the Braves over the weekend.  I watched parts of all the games and it was obvious who was going to win the game, regardless of the score at the time.  Braves knew the Mets were gonna fold the whole time.
