There is more than one player who can be contacted. Jack does not own the entirety of player opinion for ever more.

That’s a concern. He’s not alone in publicly smashing this franchise.

    When you're a career -92 it's relevant.

For sure. It’s relevant to how atrocious this franchise has been with Samson on board. He was never given a chance to excel. He’s off to a very good start in Florida and is even a +4. Long season but him being a + for the first time in his career the second he leaves Buffalo completely destroyed your attempt to make it relevant to Samson.

The answer to that is an easy one. You just tell any other player that Jack has already said multiple times he wanted to leave the organization. At that point, he wanted us to assume all the risk without the benefit of him playing here anymore. We decided to let him go to another organization that would be invested in his future.

This fanbase needs to stop playing dumb on this. The way you treat players has a huge impact on the way others view your franchise around the league. The Sabres decided not to go to bat for their best player and decided he was not worth their money. That’s going to have an impact. It might not be the difference for a lot of guys but it’s certainly another obstacle to address.

My point is there's more to being an effective hockey player than just point production.   Points are nice, but not when you're fishing the puck out of your own net every other shift.

+/- is an irrelevant stat and shows absolutely nothing about a player unless it’s an outlier to the rest of the team.

Sorry if that comes off as flippant but players not wanting to come to Buffalo is way down our list of problems right now.

I mean … it definitely isn’t. Convincing players to come here and stay here is near the very top of the list of ways to fix this franchise. It’s a step above concession prices, at least.

Why should I care? Honestly why should I give a ***** what Jack's mouthpiece has to say and oh no we won't be able to sign overpriced ufas, the horror.

When it becomes a problem, I'll worry. You don't build teams through ufa.

You know why ufas aren't gonna sign? Because we're bad, if we're ever good again, Jack's issues will have been forgotten. Winning fixes a lot... so does money

Winning fixes a lot, sure. As does money. But not having things to fix is even better. This will impact decisions in the future. Convincing good players to come here is already hard enough.

I don't disagree with you, but I think the significance is your point could be said it would just be common sense.... But here a guy who talks to NHL players his actually come out and said that players have admitted openly that they are going to have second thoughts.

It's not something that's common sense to believe it's likely, we now know that players have definitely said it for sure.

I was being sarcastic. I said multiple times this was happening and would continue to happen.

One more thing Friedman just brought up, said Buffalo should be worried about how they handled the injury situation and the fact that they wouldn't let Jack get his surgery of choice.

When the question was asked to press Frieedman on that, he said that a few players have told him they would have second thoughts about playing for Buffalo because of how they treated Jack regarding the injury.

He said behind the scenes the situation between Jack and the sabers was personal and nasty, more than most people know.

Wow we never could have possibly foreseen the handling of Jack having an impact on players around the league. I certainly never mentioned it multiple times.

    Close enough.

No, not really. As far as point production goes: Samson has five seasons of more than 20 goals, Tuch has zero. Samson has six seasons of 40 or more points. Tuch has one. Six seasons over .5 PPG. Tuch has two.

They’re not close. Tuch is a 30-50 point player. Samson is a 50-70 point player.

We know they're not talented enough it's the poor effort for long stretches that's concerning which should be addressed by the coach.

If they play hard and lose we'd all be OK with it.

I do wonder a little bit how much the poor effort is on the coaches and how much the poor effort is on the clear indications from management and ownership that the team isn’t intended to compete in the immediate term. That’s what I suspect will happen again this year.

We got two Sam Reinhardt’s (Krebs and Tuch) plus a first and second round pick for Jack.

That sounds like like a good deal for us

Tuch is not Sam Reinhart. Krebs - TBD.

I find it comical that anybody would think Eichel is the missing piece to led Vegas to a Cup.   He's a good talent, that's it.

He's been in the league 6 years has put up only one 80pt season, scored 30g only once, has been out with injury 15% of the time.   No awards, no playoffs, no nothing.

He’s not just a “good player” and he’s never had anywhere near the talent he has around him now. I don’t know how you can even try to compare it.

Which is fine. If one of the three first rounders turns out to be above average, good.

If the Eichel first turns out to be a bust that contributes nothing that certainly doesn’t help this deal.

  10. I believe @Randall Flagg has expressed that Eichel has been the star of the team through the prime years of his fandom as he’s a bit younger (aka slightly younger than me).

what will we do now with all our spare time now that the Eichel trade has happened?

Idk but @pi2000’s source says lotion sales in Buffalo have gone up.

Jack also mentioned he felt he was close to being an Av.

This felt like it was him referencing the summer and he seemed to really think that was happening. Man, I want to know what those deals looked like (just as a fan of the inner workings of front offices, not really in the context of being a Sabres fan).

    From LeBrun in the Athletic:

Sources confirmed Thursday that not nearly as many teams got serious on Eichel as one would think for a player of his caliber. His health situation, his $10-million cap hit and the timing of the Sabres wanting to move him were all contributing factors for some teams who just couldn’t make a meaningful move.

The final three suitors, according to sources, were Vegas, Calgary and Carolina…

The Anaheim Ducks had stayed in touch with the Sabres dating back to last summer but fell out of it, I’m told, because they weren’t ready to risk dealing for him pre-surgery.

I’m curious about Carolina. If they were “serious” I wonder what they offered. They’ve got a ton of good young players who are already on the NHL roster.
