“Proper procedure on herniated disc.” And the media isn’t shilling for Brisson. Right. What a disgrace.

For the record, that headline is almost guaranteed to have come from a digital producer who meant to say “preferred” but just had a brain fart. Said digital producer probably knows nothing about the story (they were regurgitating Emily Kaplan’s ESPN report which used the term “preferred” and not “proper”).

Yet there is no fault on anyone’s behalf. This entire situation was brought about by an accident for crissakes.

It’s also an accident that both sides immediately started drawing lines and have been very publicly spiteful toward each other. Nothing that ever happened prior to the accident could have fostered a better response and handling by the two parties.

You have that completely wrong: there is no party with fault here.

For many, it seems, their frustration with the situation compels them to assign blame for the situation where none exists. It’s a fascinating aspect of the human psyche.

This is not a neutral event with no ramifications.

Old school coach who has a long relationship with Tyrod gives Tyrod a vote of confidence.

Starting QBs don't usually lose their jobs to injury but yet Tyrod seems to find a way.

Tyrod might come back and play a few games but it doesn't change the fact that the kid will take his job eventually.

My original post did not claim that Tyrod would never play again, just that he will lose the job again to another rookie.

Starting QBs (and other players) have lost their jobs to injury pretty consistently in the past. That’s just old coach speak that very rarely, if ever, holds true.

Get a hold of Pat Brisson. Let him know you carry Jack's water on fan boards.

No problem! I mean there’s definitely no way anyone could feel years of poorly managing a relationship with your franchise player could lead to a nightmare situation such as this. Nothing the Sabres have done over the years or since this process started can be construed negatively. Jack Eichel is the one true villain.

So, the Leafs are maybe the richest team in the NHL, play in the most pressurized market in the NHL, are inclined towards making splashy moves, are 2-4, have lost 3 in a row, including a 7-1 blowout loss on HNIC this weekend and are playing Carolina tonight for another likely loss.

Mitch Marner has 1 assist in 6 games this year despite averaging almost 22 min per game.  He is a dynamic, exciting, highly skilled C/RW who doesn't turn 25 until next May.  He's under contract at $10.9MM per year for 3 more years after this one, and then will be a UFA.

If KA were somehow able to confirm that Marner would welcome a trade to Buffalo, would you trade Eichel straight up for Marner?  Would you sweeten the pot with, say, Ryan Johnson or Mattias Samuelsson or the Sabres' #2 in 2022?

    I would.

    Jesus Christ no.

So no proof. Just a feeling. Check. To be fair you can say the same of me. But you'd think anything the Sabres would leak would be helpful to them. So far it's been all Pro-Jack.

Where’s Harrington’s proof? Where’s Callaghan’s proof? Every single post on this subject is made up conversation.

There’s plenty of reason for the team to leak information that appears slightly favorable for Jack but ultimately does nothing to actually help him. If everybody thinks your opposition is the one leaking info thus convincing the masses you’re handling it professionally …

My guess is Brisson is using every avenue to create public pressure on the Sabres to shame then into doing something, either take a bad deal or allow surgery and then take a bad deal.

Mike Harrington took Ryan Callahan to task in his Buffalo News Sunday Inside the NHL column for accusing the Sabres of "generating a lot of noise" around Jack Eichel when the Sabres have said nothing since the presser that removed him from the captaincy.

But that didn't stop Callahan from wrecking the Sabres during that ESPN+ exclusive game against the Bruins. Was it just a guy on his first network broadcast looking to say something profound? Or was it someone doing someone else a favor?

"Callahan, naturally, took the player's side even though the CBA gives Eichel no leg to stand on. And then he admonished the Sabres for "putting a lot of things out there that don't need to be out there, that just make a lot of noise around your team when you're trying to focus on training camp and getting ready for a season."

Pretty ill-informed comment. The Sabres haven't talked about Eichel for one second since the first day of training camp, so no idea what Callahan is talking about. It was the Rochester native's first game on the mic and the inexperience showed. Don't be vague. Say what you mean. If you don't like they took the 'C' away, that's fine. Fair point. But that's one thing. That's not a lot of things. And there was zero noise about it after the first day. Implying otherwise is simply wrong."

Harrington not being able to recognize that organizations and individuals release information beyond just what is said in press conferences comes as no surprise.

Yeah he was out to a good start and it's not his fault he got hurt but ultimately this kid is going to take his job. This year or next.

He was obviously just a stopgap starter for Houston but it won’t be Mills. The Texans are going to draft their next starter.

Has it really been proven that Jack can get the surgery if he wants to, with the mentioned contract repercussion, or is all of this just repeated fan supposition?

This has been a point I’ve made a handful of times. I get the feeling there are more penalties involved for doing something like this without team approval. If that weren’t the case I think Jack would have gotten the surgery already.

Consider that Matt Barzal was drafted 16th overall in the 2015 draft.  A player like him would look great centering a line for the Sabres so while I would love another premier center prospect with Eichel's skill we may be okay with getting another center with skills just a step below elite.

Barzal is such a strange case. I had him third in that draft. He was long viewed as a top ten pick in that draft but somehow just kept dropping. The Bruins passed on him three times.

For being thrown in, hes held up ok.

I didn't say he's starring every Sunday just that he's getting better at the job with every opportunity.

He's got size, arm strength and athleticism to mold.

TT is what he is. He's had multiple chances and I think this is gonna follow his pattern unfortunately.

Prior to being hurt Tyrod was 31-for-44 for 416 yards, 3 passing TDs, 1 rushing TD and 0 turnovers. He was also 1-0 and was tied 14-14 against the Browns when he got hurt.

He sucked against the Bills. He's been ok against everyone else and is getting better still.

I’d look again. He’s been terrible in all but two starts. One good start against New England and one mediocre start against Carolina.

Lots of people just want to Pegulas to be the villain all day every day.

They’re villains for the business they’re in. Whether they’re villains in the Eichel situation is debatable.

    Jack's parents? What?

Guy wants his money. That's all there is to it. If he didn't want to get paid he could just get the surgery and wipe his hands clean of this entire chapter of his life.

I think there’s more to it than this. In a sense none of us can understand.

  15. There is a good number of teams at the top. The Bills got a lot of love at number one in Power rankings before the Titans game, but there are actually 5-7 teams you could argue are better (Bucs, Cardinals, Packers, Titans, Rams, Ravens have a good argument then teams like the Cowboys, Bengals and Chargers could all enter the conversation). They’re probably somewhere between the fourth and sixth best team.

I feel very good about this Bills team but it’s never easy to get to the top. Lucky for them only one of those NFC teams will ever matter and then they only have to be two or three of the AFC teams.

Is Tyrod Taylor gonna lose his job again to another rookie QB?

    No. Mills has been terrible.
