While we're ranting, can we get some mean defensemen. I'm getting to the point where I'd be alright with Myers going. I'm enamored with his skating for a big man, but if the mean streak isn't there, I don't see him being what we need.
Who do we have that brings the nasty beside Weber (Nikita??). Anyone in the Roch pipeline?
-
Reinhart is not skating at an NHL level yet. He isn't using his feet to insert himself into plays and battle for the puck. He's got good passing instincts and positioning, but that's all the good I can say about his game.
Tyler Ennis had a fantastic game. More of that please. Weber also put in another nice effort. Zemgus was alright, but it was a quiet game by his standards. Cody Hodgson finally seems to be waking up a little bit. His skating stood out to me today.
Gionta, Meszaros, and Benoit are not good. The C on Gionta's sweater is starting to look like a joke. Gorges looks like a solid 3-4 option for this squad.
I really hope we see Nikita on the ice tomorrow.
Spot on.

Through 3 games, the only guys I see giving it their all on every shift have been Ennis, Weber and Deslauriers. That ain't gonna win many games (in our case none).

Where is the legendary TN work ethic? That's what I'm most disappointed in.
-
Today was shockingly bad. I thought they would be better. The roster is better than last year, isn't it?
-
If that's what gets Tyler to play mean, we should spear him in the nuts before every game (like the guy in Dodgeball).
-
I can't stand being every teams b1tch for another year.
-
We can't be worse than last year, can we?

This is going to be a looooong season.
-
Best period of the season by far.
-
Sabres are hitting more this period.
-
Character building first. Let's see what they do with it in the second.
-
Columbus announcer just said the Sabres goal was scored by Rasmus Jurgensen. Seems like every team has a Rob Ray.
-
Typical Ted Nolan game (and team) thus far. Working for everything, looking overmatched, relying on great goaltending, entertaining. It's refreshing.

No. Tokarski.

Does Risto have a mean streak? Did he show in Rochester?

I'm good with the Ennis deal for now. Of course, if he turns into an injury prone, 10 goals a year player, we'll be hearing how Murray made a big mistake. While that can happen, so can him turning into an occasional 30 goal scorer. What is most likely, of course, is someplace in the middle.
Given a big role in the offensive zone, I think 20-25 goal seasons are what we should be hoping for reasonably.
Agree. Always liked Ennis. Plays larger than he is. Great offensive skills. Gives all he has every shift. Doesn't throw teammates under the bus. A good Buffalo player in the right city.

Ruhwedel is a poor man's Pysyk. Not sure if that is good, but I spelled both names correctly.
-
RIP Guy. Saw him play for the Buffalo Norsemen in the NAHL (see my avatar) in 75-76. Point per game player that year.

Technically the wording works in a bit of irony. Pronger's value in the trade does lay on our side.
I wish I could take credit for the irony but it was just poor wording on my part. I am a contributor to the "Good whiskey/whisky" thread and I have obviously done a little too much research today.

We could probably get Volchenkov for next to nothing. I would like to target Philly's 2015 first but it'll take some strong dealing.
Agreed. But they have to dump salary somehow. Maybe GMRH is that desperate.
-
Pronger and one of our 2015 seconds for a their 2015 first. (Salary dump for more McDavid chances)
Anton Volchenkov for our 2015 3rd.
With 3 (now 4 first rounders) we can afford to give up one of our 2nds and 3rd next year.

Sabres GM Tim Murray says team tried to avoid guys with third-line projections and swing for top-six talent that may or may not pan out.
Makes sense. You can always find 3rd line guys (most likely on Sabres current roster). However, I'm sure that's the same philosophy of all GMs.
Comparable to Donald Trump finding a couple nickels in the cushions.

Don't want to hijack the thread, but Gare was the best Sabres captain IMO. 50 goals, fearless, and could fight with the best of them. He seemed to love being captain. Nothing reluctant there.

Good question. Today, it looked like they weren't working. But a superior team (as most NHL teams will be) may make us look like we're not working. Hard to look like we're working when we're being toyed with.
