  1. Sure, you could beat the Islanders' offer for Pageau, but that would be ridiculous. Otherwise, what centers are upgrades over even Johansson, who I surely don't want playing center? I understand that Trocheck got moved, but there are enough red flags with him that I'm comfortable not making that deal. Haula would have been nice to sign last offseason, but he's a UFA. Giving up huge assets for a UFA is what we should not be doing right now. Trocheck is the only C with term that has moved
  2. I don't like Jason. But it's not his fault if a reasonable long-term center solution doesn't happen today. Teams don't like doing that right now. They are far more willing to do things like that in the summer. If he goes into next year without a solid center core, then I'll join your fury.
  3. Now THAT would be exciting.
  4. This will be marginally more entertaining than watching Frolik or Sheary play RW
  5. Simmonds isn't good, but this isn't the time where you add actually good players if you're in a position like we are, so if we move out a bad player then it can't hurt
  6. This is exactly what Darcy needed to do 10 years ago.
  7. Buffalo penalty kill before acquiring Frolik: 74.7% Buffalo penalty kill since acquiring Frolik: 75.0% His presence on the PK, in 40 attempts, has saved the Sabres a net 0.01 goals. Seriously. That would be assuming he plays all of each PK, which he doesn't. So it's really like 40-50% of THAT number. I know there are individual player penalty kill stats, but I can't find them and have to go somewhere, but he's hardly been a PP savior, at least relative to Scandella, the only other difference between those two sets. And he is so slow that his inability to cover gaps, and forced recession into the middle slot, is a regular issue when it comes to allowing teams to sustain pressure. Frolik otherwise: 17 games played, 1 goal (empty net), 3 points, -3, zone starts almost dead even (48-52 split offense-defense), Sabres take 44% of the shot attempts while he's on the ice, 41% of the scoring chances, 38.9% of the expected goals, and are propped up by an on-ice save percentage of .940, which is the highest of his career outside of one fluke stretch in Chicago. The Sabres shoot 2% while he's on the ice, because he has played a role in like one serious scoring chance since he got here. That shooting percentage includes his empty net goal. Frolik is a borderline-tank-level forward and is a real-life manifestation of the single thing the Sabres are the worst in the NHL at, the thing that has been plaguing them for a decade. He is severely allergic to anything resembling a positive play with the puck on a team that is already more or less fine defensively, but cannot do things with the puck that the rest of the league can. I'm beyond sick of Botterill acquiring these types of forwards and being told how useful they are while I watch the dryest team in hockey continue to miss the playoffs and I hope he trades Frolik today, and I'm sure the guy is great and can find a role on a team that needs fewer events happening out on the ice, but that is emphatically not us His on-ice impact on our shot suppression is also horrendous, teams blast us in the a$$ whenever Frolic is on the ice compared to when he isn't
  8. Seems like Bergevin can trade but can't draft, and can't make the big move when needed most, being more inclined to wait things out longer than fans can handle. ie he's Darcy
  9. Thanks, Phil. Stubborn Ralph would have never landed on that by himself, if they hadn't had significant success together before him. ;D
  10. Zemgus' confidence with the puck hasn't been this high since 2014-15. Those guys have to love playing together.
  11. Great win. why is our ice so bad? The NHL would have a better product dropping a dozen games and getting rid of back to backs.
  12. We played excellent the last 10 minutes of that period. win the third and get two points closer.
  13. Jason loves forwards with hands
  14. The only guy on our team that can do that
  15. Juxtaposing this game with PPG arena yesterday, it's pretty obvious that our ice isn't as good as it should be
  16. M Johansson has been awful. also, get Olofsson off the top line
  17. There was another awful and unnecessary icing the very next shift by Miller
  18. Congrats to Frolik for his first shot on goal as a buffalo sabre
  19. He's been my Mitts comparable for years. Uh oh?
  20. I hope the atmosphere is great today. So ready for our boys to give us something new.
  21. Or last season's. They've been at this level for 140+ games now, which is why I'd be comfortable giving them nice raises to stay
  22. There's a tangible difference between a team that pushes to 90 and misses compared to whatever we saw last year. I'll be in a much better mood about the parts of the team that I like that are already in place. Of course, I'll continue to be worried about the fact that all Sabres forwards currently performing their roles adequately are Murray skaters, in 9/23/68/22/28/21, and that we have a bunch of forward positions to fill with Jason this summer
  23. Larry is pacing for 25 points. Find me guys who get the defensive usage Larsson does, who have the shot suppression success he does, and put up that many points. There are very, very few, even on the best teams. After a hot start, Lazar has cooled back down and has 1 point in his last 12 games. On his career he averages 17 points per full season's worth of games. He would not handle being the center of a line with Larsson's line's responsibility as well as Larry does. he's the perfect 13 forward, but on a healthy team that you want going places, you don't want him slotted higher than your fourth line, and he's not worth letting go any of GLO if they want to stay here
  24. I'll actually be a tolerable poster this offseason!?
