  1. You guessed 98% of the NHL falls in between those heights but named seven players with an added etc. Seven players is over one percent of the players in the league.

But you're right. I just found that slightly funny.

Yeah, I don't know how many players are in the league. I could figure it out it's not hard, I just kinda estimated though.

  2. Unless there are an inordinate amount of pucks going into the net above a goaltender's head when down in the butterfly, I'm going to guess that the reason goaltenders are around that height isn't necessarily because GM's prefer them, but because of the bell curve of goaltenders heights. Somebody as short an Enroth is as common as Jacob Markstrom is tall.

Yes. 4 inches either way from 6' is 5'8" to 6'4". I don't know but I'm guessing about 98% of the NHL falls between those heights. There are exceptions, Gerbe, St Louis, Gionta, John Scott, Myers, Chara, Bishop etc. That's why I used 6', no rhyme or reason just thought it was middle of the road as far as height goes.

  3. Thanks for the information - That's funny about CW - because my friend has the premium HD package with DirectTV, and he claims it wasn't on at all on 14. I wonder if it depends on the geographic location as to what is on 14? We live in the Southern Tier.

SD would be better than nothing, but it's ridiculous that Channel 13 didn't carry it ON 13! That way everyone could have watched it, in HD, and there would have been no issues for anyone.

Could have been a location thing, it was on in Monroe county.

  4. Yeah, we have a much better representative sample size for Miller's dearth of shut outs. :) I took a great deal of math in college, including two statistics courses, so I am very well versed in mean, standard deviation, statistical distributions, etc.

Maybe I'm being too harsh because I was ticked off that yesterday's SU game got postponed to 7 pm, and the idiot-savant programming manager at Channel 13 in Rochester elected not to carry it,but bumped it to their B-channel, WHAM-CW or whatever, a station I don't get on DISH. I'm still seething mad about that one!

Allegedly, DIRECT TV viewers could watch it, but I have a friend down the street with DIRECT, I was going to go there to watch and he checked channel 14, and he couldn't get it either. :(

I have DirecTV and it was on channel 14 CW, whatever that means. It was NOT however in HD, so the quality sucked but I got to watch it atleast.

  5. Plenty of good goalies over the past 20 years who were way under 6 feet tall. Only now has it become an issue because the reality of RM leaving is real. What's next to pick on the guy about? The height thing is really kind of non issue. If it was JE would not have ever made it to the NHL let alone play in 73 games so far.

  6. Nope, because historical stats say as much despite what YOU might think. Again, I'm not saying he can't, I'm saying the Miller bar has been set pretty high.

but but but according to you JE haters JE doesn't have enough of a sample size yet, right! That's what you all have been saying. Hmmm, hypocritical much.

  7. In Miller's first 73 starts (spread over three years plus the first ten games of a fourth year):

    2.71 GAA, .894 SV%, 42-25-3-1. Two shutouts.

In Enroth's first 73 games (every start of his career so far stretched over four years plus one game from a fifth year):

    2.76 GAA, .912 SV%, 22-30-12. Three shutouts.

Enroth's record looks so low there because there were ten appearances during that time in which he did not start. Miller started his first 109 appearances.

This does not include the playoffs.

Miller's age in that time spanned from 22-26 due to the lockout.

Enroth's age in that time spanned from 22-25.

    Interesting to say the least.

I also think RM had a way better supporting cast, team around him in his beginnings, where JE not so much.

  8. Not even making this up. When I said population 2 or 3 I thought of you haha

Were you now, good for you!

See the problem with all the RM fan boys is not being able to cope with the fact he is about to be gone. The coping process has now gone to unrealistic, unproven fabricated made up Enroth bashing about his size. Once that is beaten to death, what will be the next Enroth bashing topic? Even strength goals against? PP goals against? more bad rebound control? Will you use the "crap defense infront of him" excuse like you use for RM? or no it's all Enroths fault? Which will it be? The guy needs to be given the opportunity to actually see if he do the job. Until the nobody knows if he will succeed or fail.

  9. Nope, you are the primary person who acts complete illogical to our goalie situation. Most of the enroth jokes is because of your love affair with him as spouting save percentages.

There isn't a Ryan miller fan club. We like our number 1 franchise goalie more than his unproven backup. Hate to break it to you, the only fan club is the enroth fan club, population 2 or 3

    ignorance is bliss

  10. How do you know they haven't?

how do you know Ruff and the Stars wouldn't love to have him but aren't able to give the Sabres what they want for him?

My thinking is if LR and the Stars wanted him that bad, there would have been a done deal by now. If RM really is all that, and LR thinks likewise, RM would have been a Star along time ago. The Stars would have given Buffalo what they wanted.

Because Dallas is a mediocre team that has a long way to go to be a contender?

You mean like Washington, NY Islanders, or Minnesota?

  11. Those weren't advanced stats, analytics, #fancystats or whatever you wish to call them,

Miller is a goner, and despite the axe some posters have to grind with the guy, he is beyond good enough to take a well balanced team to a Stanely Cup. Period.

We will be left in tank mode and hopefully will be able to find another goalie who is also good enough to take us to the promised land when the rest of the team comes together. Will his pads be filled easily or will it be a case of not knowing what you've got til it's gone? We shall see.

Here is something no one has brought up yet.

If RM is sooo good why haven't the Dallas Stars come calling yet? You would think Lindy, who knows RM extremely well, would be all over that if he thought RM was the answer. Dallas is only 5 points out of 6th place, surely RM would put them into the playoffs and carry them to the cup, right!

Why hasn't RM to the Dallas Stars happened yet?

  12. Tim Murray on WGR (will organize it after/before class):

On Miller's last game in Buffalo possibly being tonight:

"His status at this point is he's a Buffalo Sabre. I've had talks with teams, and they've showed interested. They haven't (hesitation) done anything yet to change that."

"As of right now, nothing has changed with Ryan."

Has had talks about him today and yesterday.

On talks picking up leading into Friday's freeze:

"I have been getting more calls yesterday, the day before and today. Nobody has said 'I want a deal before Friday' but there is more action. If there is a fit then they might want to pull the trigger by Friday."

On what he wants in trades:

"Trying to get the best possible return. Draft picks are important. Young players and prospects speed up the process a bit."

Said teams are less likely to give up prospects due to "emotional attachment" and it's easier to sell off moving a pick to fans than it is to move a player close to the NHL.

    Does he know Miller's intentions:

"Uhm, has it been decided? Hard question. There are some young guys who we're certainly going forward with, but if a team knocks your socks off then I've fibbed. I'm willing to listen on every single player. I'm certainly listening on Ryan. Is that our plan? I guess we'll see what everybody else offers."

Says he would listen to the possibility of acquiring vets, but he wouldn't be doing that to get Miller to stay. Doesn't think there are vets available.

Says he's smart enough to not let other teams lower prices because they are acquiring "rentals." Knows it's the value of the player and not his contract.

On how he thinks teams should build and if he wants to emulate a specific team/plan:

"You have to bad to get those players." Mentioned teams like Chicago and Pittsburgh. Also mentioned Anaheim who was never really too far down aside from Bobby Ryan at pick 5.

When basically baited into admitting that they're tanking:

"It'd be great to get McDavid, but it's hard to 'pull those strings."

    "That can't be your plan."

To me, this says Murray is just waiting until the best deal comes by. It doesn't sound to me like he has any intentions on resigning Miller, whether it's Miller's decision or Murray's.

  13. How many of you Miller fanboys think he is a HOFer? I mean, only the "elite" make it there, right? If he is truly elite he should be a slam dunk HOFer, right? I don't see it but that is my opinion.
