Elias Pettersson agrees to an 8 year Extension with the Canucks

Yep and the playoffs last year were prove of that -
If they become members of the team, I will take the time to spell their names correctly. Until then

TNT, Kulich, Rosen, Samuelsson, and 2024 1st. It would be expensive and since he can sign an extension July 1st, a new contract would have to come with it -

Friedman mentioned it on a radio spot last week and he didn’t get the usual stern rebuke he normally does when saying these types of things -
There is enough smoke around the fact that The Canucks have made an offer to Pettersson but they are not convinced they will be able to sign him as He may want out. Rumors that he did not like the way the owner treated Bruce Bourdeau to the fact He doesn’t like playing in a Canadian Media Market might be part of the reason why. Perhaps @dudacek can provide so more insight. He has two years of RFA left after this season, and would probably require a huge extension starting at 12 million AAV. That being said, if you want a franchise changing trade, this would be it
-
Kulich’s Advantage is they would get him for His Full ELC for all 3 seasons.
-
It’s an overpay for sure, I did Cozens Combine Physical he is a great kid. That all being said, Tkatchuk is an elite play driving forward who plays with an edge. He is build for the playoffs And he would get Skinner off the top line!
-
TBH I think He was concussed and is still experiencing the after effects. Same with Tage and His Hand. That whole line is out of sync this year.
-
It would certainly hurt.
-
Skinner is three years younger, has more points, better offensive metrics and a full NMC. Although Couture has better defensive numbers, Skinners Offense are much, much better. He enjoys playing close to His Family and Friends, moving to North California isn’t high on his list. Couture has a M NTC and besides being a Bills a fan from the GTA, there is no indication playing for the Sabres on his list. Morgan Reilly and Mitch Marner are huge fans of the Bills as well, doubt the Sabres are on their radar either. Hell Detroit HC Derek Lalonde is the biggest Bills Fan in the league, I doubt working for Pegula is high on His List unfortunately
-
He had one year remaining as a RFA with arbitration rights. My follow-up post mentioned it if Ottawa is making the decision to move him as either a core shake up or if the player wants out, the onus is on Ottawa to make the deal and weakens their position. I also mentioned Cozens as one of the roster players. He has a lower PPG .61 to Brady’s .77, but he plays Center and is signed to longer term with a lower AAV. Cozens, Kulich, 2024 1st- Top 5 protected and 2025 2nd would be one of the better offers given that’s three premium pieces.

Maybe comparing the bathrooms in KBC to two Stadiums that opened prior to the United States entering World War II, probably isn’t the best analogy. Might be a better idea to look at some newer arenas to compare facilities built starting with the internet becoming a thing
-
If they are moving Tkatchuk it’s either an organizational move or player demand. The onus would be Ottawa to make the deal either way
-
Huberdeau was 29 and Weegar was 28 and both were one year away from UFA at the time of the trade. Power is 22 signed for additional 7 years, and has more points in His Second Year than Weegar did. Neither player is a good comparison at the present time. If a player of Tkatchuk’s Caliber is available, the Sabres have the assets to make the deal and should be first in line. A roster player (Tuch,Cozens, Mitts), prospect (Kulich, Savoie, Östlund) and the 2024 First( Top Five Protected) and a 2025 2nd would probably be the ask. Ottawa gave up 7th Overall and 12 th Overall in back to back drafts, lost a first round pick in 2024 or 25 or 26 as a punishment in the Dandanov Trade and their prospect pool is depleted. The Sabres Pick will be enticing in a deal.
