  1. From an old TBN article in 2002:

A few months ago, Nolan saw the movie "Ali" and starting thinking. Muhammad Ali went to prison after refusing to fight in the Vietnam War. He was exiled from boxing, but he never stopped thinking he was a champion. Eventually, he came back and proved himself again.

"I never stopped being a coach," Nolan said. "And I never stopped being a good coach."

Thanks dudacek! I wasn't sure if the donkey metaphor had any legs. Pronto, Burro! Onwards! Hyah! Hyah!

Burro ensured me we'd make it in three years, but that was two years ago. At this rate, I'm not sure that I can trust him to get me there in seven. Get up, now, Burro! Get! Get!

I've got a cell phone, with a solar charger, so I've been trying to schedule the necessary meetings, and make the necessary arrangements, en-route. Needless to say, Donkey has not been entirely cooperative. His latest misbehavior is sit down on his haunches, forcing me to dismount, refusing to move forward. And he just keeps repeating the odd mantra: "There's no emperor, Yuri, no emperor, Yuri, nope, nope, no emperor, Yuri." My burro's gone mental!

It's the Empire State, donkey!!, George freaking Washington coined that, and he had a proper horse!! If you don't want this hatchet buried in your backside, you better Get! Get!! Hyah! Hyah!!

"I'm a people's burro, Yuri, ask anyone I've worked with, burro of the people, people's burro..." "There's no emperor, Yuri, no emperor.."

    Arrrrrrrghhh!!!

    :wallbash:

Your Donkey has never seen a Penguin?

    For shame.

To be fair, it should also be noted that many hockey people believed Nolan was blackballed for having the gumption to stand up to the wanna-be "legend" John Muckler, who is perhaps one of the most over rated men in hockey.

And then there are theories about his heritage that are well-documented from his playing days. But I personally think it had more to do with Muck's good ol' boy network than anything else.

It might take a few weeks, and it might cause some pretty messed up lineups for a little while, but I'm looking forward to watching guys figure out that if you aren't competing every shift, you won't be getting a shift. And I suspect Drew Stafford is crapping bricks.

Nolan was offered jobs and turned them down, but I agree that he was blacklisted after what happened with Muckler then Regier. He also spent time focusing on his young family for awhile.

I'm betting Kaleta is back REAL soon.

  4. It's been an absolute pleasure reading through your posts from today, Ghost. It's been one of those days, where I couldn't post, but was thinking about the place, and I shouldn't single you out, because there were many awesome posts and it would be boring without so many different personalities on here.

To clarify, Mr. Amerk, the hatchet's not being buried until all of my demands are met. I still wield the hatchet, of course, for I must give the impression that I'm entitled to some sort of negotiation with Mr. Pegula, otherwise, I wouldn't have any leverage when I ask him to reimburse me for motivating him. The hatchet is the stick, and the carrot is the Stanley Cup. Terry is the donkey, and I am riding him towards Delaware Avenue for the Parade.

    When is the parade?

I saw what happened, I'm just wondering if that's a usual thing that QBs do, throw the ball without even a glace at the field. Even if it's a quick hitting play.

Depends on who the QB is, and how well their line is protecting them.

  6. Tuel deserves a chance to play. The way they talked about him in camp you'd think they have some confidence in him. I really don't think it's fair to base it off of what he did against Cleveland. It was his first game, on national TV, he probably didn't have many reps during practice. With a week and a half to work with the starters, he should start this week.

We are talking about the Bills.

  7.

Yeah, I didn't get that either. They were always down by less than a touchdown. Bulldog said a woman stopped him in the parking lot and asked "Did they actually win that game?"

What the hell is wrong with the "diehard" fans in Buffalo that they'd rather try to beat traffic than stick around to see if their rookie QB can engineer an amazing comeback? Pretty astonishing that that was a thing today.

Manuel became the fifth NFL rookie since 1960 to engineer a fourth-quarter comeback in his first or second game.

  8.

Well, they're 2-0 now. As much as I want to believe they aren't as good as they seem to be, their record continues to prove me wrong time and time again.

The problem is, the Patriots don't need to be Super Bowl Legend material to win the AFC East and get into the playoffs.

I'm by no means doubting that they will win the division. If they do, they are just the biggest turd in the toilet.

  9. So, the Islanders were on the front page of NHL.com because they visited the Barclay Center, which, I didn't realize until now, was retrofitted from basketball-only. So it's weird. And pretty laughable.

Keep in mind that this cost $1 billion to build. That's 5.3 times what it would cost to build the FNC today. And because it wasn't designed for hockey, the atrocious sightlines eliminate seats. It seats "14,500" for hockey, which is the smallest venue in the NHL and a move down from the 16,170 of the (dilapidated) Coliseum. It's like the team is skating in a world class college hockey rink- three NCAA venues have higher capacity. More pics here, including a pic of the scoreboard that's over there.

I'm not knocking it that hard. I'm sure for the dollars-per-seat spent, it's a nice lavish place to catch a game, and everyone knows it'll be better than the Coliseum, but damned if it isn't funny looking. WANG'D.

    $14.50?

    Not bad at all.

  10.

I wouldn't expect the Patriots to be as bad over the final 14 as they were the first 2 weeks. It's taking time for the new receivers to get n the the same page as Brady and they are in need to find a safety valve outlet out of the backfield or TE. At some point it is all going to click for the Patriots. Good teams seem to find ways to make it work.

I expect them to be mediocre all year.

They are in a decline, while the Bills and Fins are heading in the opposite direction. The division will be a dogfight of mediocrity all season.
