The Amerks just beat Utica, the team with the best record in the conference with a .660 points percentage and set the AHL record this year for most consectutive wins to start a season. There were a few teams out west with a better points percentage, but the East was a much more competitive conference. I don't really follow the AHL enough to say much about the specific matchup, but beating Utica means we have a shot against anyone

I feel like Utica’s record is a little misleading.

When you take away those 13 wins to start the season, they were basically a .500 team after that - they went 30-29 the rest of the season.

The Amerks and Laval should match well. The Amerks have an edge with more skilled youth, while Laval has an edge with experienced vets like Paquette, Ouellet, Dea, and Smith-Pelly.

  2. One of the lousiest hockey games that I have been to in a long time.

Amerks did nothing right. I didn’t think any of them played a solid game. Passing was bad, shooting was bad, PP was bad, no energy, very little hustle. Team was chasing the Comets most of the night. Quinn was useless.

I don’t think I’ve ever been at a game where a team had their goalie pulled with 12 minutes left in the game.

Crowd wasn’t helping much, either, not like on Sunday.

  3. My pure speculation, regarding Quinn, is that he’s stuck in his own head at the moment.

Yes, Belleville and Utica have given him the business, pressuring him, but he’s been giving it back. He has the skill to overcome it, but his brain is probably overthinking. He wants to be the difference-maker, but he’s gripping the stick instead of relaxing.

He had a perfect opportunity to end the game yesterday near the end of the 3rd, wide open in the slot, and he rifled his shot right over the net. The Quinn of the regular season would’ve scored that goal.

He has been getting his chances, but the passes and shots haven’t been executed in the way that he can do them. Yet.

  4. What a great game to experience. I can’t remember the last time I saw BCA sold out for a game.

Was cool to chat with veterans like Metcalfe, Hoffard, and Langdon before the game.

Refs were almost as terrible as they were at the Belleville game last week.

Amerks played hard in the 3rd, and I saw a few Comets rolling their eyes with exhaustion after whistles. Nice to see the boys throwing the body around - even saw Quinn and Rooster throw checks. Pretty sure the corner section I was in heckled Russo bad enough to throw him off his game at the end of the 3rd.

Fans were awesome, and the building was LOUD. Cant wait for Tuesday!

And you love to get personal and attack posters when you're wrong so here we are. The series wasn't close and was never going to be close.

Funny, after Buffalo added Risto, Regehr, Ott , Scott, handful of other "tough" guys with grit the solution ended up being adding talent with grit. And for the record, size doesn't equal toughness which has been and will continue to be my line as it is perpetually proven to be true. Toughness to me means heart.

Btw, there are 2 Dalton Smith threads that have posters, not saying you, but ppl advocating for him because his toughness is what we need. I listened to 7 years of ppl saying Ristos "toughness" was what we needed. No, we needed good hockey players who give a crap. That's how you get talented grit and win.

I’m not even clear what you are trying to say here. Talent and grit together are bad?

He’s been beyond bad defensively all year. There’s a reason 3 AHL/ECHL tweeners played over him. With Davidson close to a return, I can’t imagine it’ll be any easier for him to crack the lineup.

The bolded is the part that I don’t understand. Like I said, Laaksonen wasn’t exactly a defensive juggernaut, but the AHL is a development league, and Oskari is only 22, and it looked like he had been getting better the first few months of the season.

What is the point of replacing his spot with a handful of ECHL dudes in their mid-20’s, instead of continuing to let Laaksonen learn and develop?
