I said "always" when I should've said "usually" when referring to Bylsma's line matchups working out. I've seen the Pens get shut down hard with both Crosby and Malkin in the lineup.

Vanek doesn't have the plague, he's still a good player that would score ~25 goals from most 2nd lines.

The reason I don't want Bylsma is because I've never been impressed with him as a coach. His lines always matchup well when he's coaching the Pens because how not? With Crosby and Malkin against NHL squads, you're going to blow most teams out of the water at center ice regardless of what you do. At the Olympics I got to see how he handled a lesser roster. The tournament is small, so you can't get much of a read on how systems work. But line matchups/changes are always on the coach. And those little decisions mean so much more in a random single elimination tournament. I also don't think very highly of his ability to keep his players level headed. The Penguins get badly exploited by teams that get under their skin. It's like when they get rattled they care more about trying to be tough than putting the thing in the thing. Babcock's robots just go out there and play hockey.

I think Minny is a better team by far than we were in 2009-2011. They had a first round loss, and two second round losses in the last 3 years. All to the Blackhawks. Beating the Blues is no small feat, that team is tough as nails. The fact that they are probably at their ceiling right now is what reminds me of those old Sabres squads. Just not quite good enough, and no easy way to get better.

This makes a lot more sense. The problem that I have with your posts is that they're incredibly suggestive. It never feels like I'm reading your opinion, it feels like I'm being instructed how to think.

I tend to fixate on line matchups when I watch hockey, and after watching the Bylsma-coached 2014 USA olympic team I don't think I could ever come around to the idea of him as coach. It sounds like all the behind the scenes teaching is Bylsma's bread and salt, so that's probably why I have a hard time getting excited about him.

Just listened to the Weber clip. It sounded to me like he preferred playing in Lindy's system and is really excited about the prospect of being coached by the guy that Lindy learned from. I love me some Weber. I hope he's still the #7 D when we do finally get that cup.
