  1. I hate, hate, hate being micromanaged, and ever since my company reorganized that's all my new boss (who was promoted despite being terrible at her job when we were at the same level) has done. Fortunately a position has opened up in my branch that is both a somewhat lateral position but also a promotion, and I have already started jockeying for it. I think I have the right people aligned with me to make it happen but this company is full of people who could screw up a free lunch, so I am not counting on anything until the paperwork is all finalized and I am in the position.

And that's precisely what's happening with me. I can't have a phone conversation with my wife w/o the boss asking what it's about.

Another complaint: the idiots sitting within 5 rows of the ice who decide to stand up and wave to get themselves on TV. I'm glad I don't get tickets that good or else...

  2. Just spent 2 hours in the ER trying to find out why I have blisters all around my eye and bridge of my nose and have a screaming headache. The diagnosis? Shingles. ###### shingles. OMG does it hurt.

Have to see an eye doctor tomorrow cuz if the shingles spreads to my eye it can cause permanent sight damage.

No real cure like a bacterial infection. It has to run its course. Could be a couple weeks. Sucks to be me.

Man, that does suck. I had shingles a few years ago, but the symptoms were the blisters on my abdomen and what felt like back pain that wouldn't go away. I was lucky enough to get it caught early where some antibiotic was able to get rid of it.

Good luck - I hope it doesn't affect your eyes at all.

  3. I hate it when people play Devil's advocate all the time. It's one thing to disagree with someone's opinion or try to present a different point of view, but when you do it at every single flippin' conversation, you're just talking so that everyone knows you're speaking.

  4. Damn PCs. I got the old BSOD on my home PC Monday night. Got it fixed, then rebooted once again last night only to get it again - the thing won't even boot up anymore. Hopefully, this looks more like a hardware problem than a hard drive problem so I won't lose any data.

    Hopefully....

  5. My only complaint: I can't focus at work because I'm obsessively checking SabreSpace for updates on the potential sale!

    This.

But (of course), it's not my only complaint...why is it that execs in my organization (or most orgs for that matter) don't understand that you can't just drop a piece of gear in a data center and expect it to work 10 minutes later?

  6. My lawn vaccuum got something stuck in it, so I have to take it in to get pulled apart..the thing won't even start. Meanwhile, leaves and acorns pile up on my lawn.

Then yesterday I get a piece of malware on my work PC. It wasn't hard to get rid of, but I was out of commission on that thing for a few hours while I ran Malwarebytes a couple of times. I ran it on my home PC for the hell of it and now something screwed up Firefox so it can't go to any internet site.

  7. Just this year my sister came down with breast cancer, my uncle with prostate cancer, my mother was just diagnosed with a leukemia a few weeks ago, and on Monday my wife's two aunts were trucked over by a landscaping truck in PA.

    I win?

I guess so, Scott...but that's not a contest you want to win. Very sorry to hear that. My prayers go out to everyone in your family.

  8. My wife's company has been laying people off here & there for a while, but it's now at the point where massive layoffs are expected. Unfortunately, since her co-worker who does the same job has more seniority, she could likely be on the outs. At least she's interviewing and is waiting word from one place, but this still sucks.

  9. Speaking of backwards...or maybe this is redundant...

People complain too much. I'm not griping about people here (I understand this is an outlet), but in general. Several co-workers of mine must live to b*tch about the job, as all I hear is how "this place sucks". I can't disagree with that particular statement, but quit it. You have a job, unlike many Americans who probably work harder than you.

  10. CTV Ottawa for reporting that Pat Burns is dead.

All the sports tweeters for racing to get that tweet out first. With some dumbass NHL story attached to it.

Pat Burns isn't dead yet. Neither is Bill Cosby.

I fell victim to that...even the Toronto Sun reported he was dead.

  11. The State of New York and its f##kin' bureaucratic system. We've waited 12-16 months to pay for support and maintenance on our network equipment because people downtown (who aren't even part of our own agency and likely don't have the first clue why this is necessary) have to approve it first.

Now we have our wireless network down - not critical, but widely used and people are used to it. We can't fix it and we're trying ways to sneak through to open a support case for help. Of course, the vendor won't help us because we haven't paid them yet.

Believe it or not, I'm maintaining my temper very well.
