  1. Are we trading Molsin for him?

I don't know, and I don't know if it's same trade related. This was in a separate conversation.

I could speculate, putting 2 + 2 = 4 scenario. There is a known that LA is about to make a trade, it's been reported by TheMayor, John Hoven, who is a very reliable source.....

    https://twitter.com/...350378074484736

We also know that Buffalo had multiple scouts at both LA and the Monarch games over the last couple of weeks.

What we have on the speculation side is from rabi, That a Sabres trade is coming and that they are demanding Tifoli.

That's all we have right now. And there are no promises that rabi is correct since he's not considered a real source. All I can do is vouch for him from past experience with his information.

We can once again, speculate that yes, LA needs offensive help, especially on the PP. Moulson provides that. TM is quoted as saying he wants NHL ready or near ready talent. Toffoli fits that criteria. I can now assume Buffalo would have to add. Maybe McNabb, I don't know, but Tifoli is going to cost a little more than a rental Moulson in my opinion.

  2. That Rabi guy who reported the upcoming trade for the Sabres apparently broke McKee being out with a Staph Infection in 2006 without anybody else knowing anything about it. If that's all... It's been a while since he broke anything. I won't hold my breath yet.

Actually he called the Regehr/Kotalik/2nd for Byron/Brown package before anyone had that information. Dreger had confirmed the trade but not what was involved, rabi came on and said the package long before anyone, including TSN had reported it. And there were others.

EDIT: and to clear up the Tuesday press conference, rabi never stated that was the case, I said what I've seen is a Tuesday presser.

RABI's exact post was as follows:

"Trade not announced during Stadium Series game, so not to distract from the event...

    Done by tomorrow"

The guy has never posted information incorrect in the past, I see no reason to believe he would now. I'll wait until tomorrow then see what happens.

  3. A poster on the HF boards who has broken Sabres news before and is apparently in the know says that there has been a trade but that they didn't want to announce anything during the Stadium Series today. Supposedly a Tuesday press conference is happening.

I have to believe it's Moulson. I can't see them working a successful deal for Miller this early in such a tight goalie market. Just some random thinking out loud thoughts is all.

EDIT: However, look at it this way. If they didn't want to steal the lime light of the outdoor games, so they are holding off in announcing, Moulson or Ott don't fit that criteria, I'm now changing my mind. It must be a Miller deal, he's the only one I can see stealing any gusto from the out door games......no? Is this the right line of thought maybe?

  4. If we start Enroth tomorrow, we'll have to change our Trade Alert Level.

    Homeland-Security-Advisory-Wall-Charts-85545-ba.jpg

I'm interested to see which asset and what the return is. With TM running around doing interviews saying he's not interested in draft picks any more, but NHL or NHL ready talent, now that is what gets my eyebrow raised. I'd like to see some components come in that compliment these top end draft picks were going to get this year and next. Ya know......

  5. Link?

I hesitate to link to another board, I will PM the information. I trust the poster implicitly since they have indeed brought forth legit Sabres information before. Tuesday Presser is what I'm seeing.

I'll send you the link via PM.

  6. Sabres trade incoming...................

"Trade not announced during Stadium Series game, so not to distract from the event..."

    Done by tomorrow

Something going down, whether it's Moulson, Miller, I don't know. But I trust the information, it's from a poster on another board that has brought forth legit information from the Sabres organization before.

  7. IKnowPhysics is correct. We keep the Tank Commander for cap floor reasons. I will say when we do jettison him I'm personally hoping he signs with another team, even for a year or 2 just so I can listen to another fan base bitch about him :D

  8. Which I don't think anyone here will mind but there sure as hell better be a plan for next season (or the following one for team rail gun fans).

I believe the plan is to go with Enroth/Hackett next season as well, or maybe one of the mid level UFA netminders coming available for a couple year contract.

I have seen Buffalo churn out some really good net minders, unfortunately attempting to build from the net out hasn't proven successful to date. A couple of times we were close, but that was because of the forward ranks, outside of the Cup run with Dom and I don't see us getting another Dom anytime soon. So I personally would like to see the team address the goalie comes first culture that's been built up here in Buffalo over the years and try that different approach of addressing the forward ranks for a change.

  9. As far as this draft is concerned, here is my reasoning for my thoughts......bare with me please and feel free to flame the crap out of it :P

Defensively for the Sabres going into the off season I see it shaping up this way:

Myers (he's not going anywhere, he's in complete beast build up mode, he'll be here for years)

Ehrhoff (can't see them moving him with the recapture penalty, could be wrong however and will elaborate further down in this post)

Pysyk (to me, he is here to stay, a great 3/4 guy, steady, not flashy, but good)

McNabb (out of all our d men, he seems the most likely to move, but he could be a Pysyk type with some offensive up side)

Zadarov (this kid isn't going anywhere, has 1/2 potential all over him)

Ristolainen (same as Zadarov, not as physical, but a very good ceiling on his potential)

McCabe (he'll be coming up for sure, when he's done developing gives us all kinds of options)

With those 7 players being the core of our future D, we can only field 6 at a time, something will have to give. As I said in my by lines on them, McNabb seems the most likely to move (addressing Ehrhoff in the next paragraph) given the potential of the rest. With that said, even though he's the most likely, I believe one of the other bottom 5 (those below Myers) could bring in a bigger haul in a move. Just my thoughts and it all depends on if they all reach some of their potential.

Drafting Ekblad is a bad idea. We need immediate offensive fire power in the pipeline, not more Defense. Moving forward, not maintaining the same position.

I thought about the possibilities of moving one of the others in a trade down the road, but then, that doesn't fit Tim Murray's comments on getting better right now.

If Ekblad is ranked #1 and we retain the 1st over all pick with the lottery, I trade that pick to the Edmonton Oilers with the following situation:

Edmonton will most likely finish 2nd to last behind us. Ekblad is the best player available at the top. I believe Murray should go to Edmonton and offer that 1st pick over all to Edmonton in a package that brings us back the 2nd over all pick and one of Jordan Eberle or Nail Yakupov. For referrence as to why I believe this is possible here is a recent article containing thoughts from Bob McKenzie of TSN on this:

    http://blogs.edmontonjournal.com/2014/01/24/bob-mckenzie-says-edmonton-oilers-could-move-ales-hemsky-sam-gagner-ryan-smyth-and-possibly-jordan-eberle-or-nail-yakupov/

Now, both are RW'ers. Eberle with the more proven stats. I don't believe he'll be moved, just my personal opinion.

But, Nail Yakupov on the other could probably be had if we work a deal to swap draft picks with Edmonton.

What would a deal look like with either one in it? Well, let's explore this for a moment. I'm guessing something along these lines on draft day just prior to things kicking off:

    YAKUPOV DEAL

    To Buffalo

    2nd pick overall

    Nail Yakupov

    To Edmonton

    1st pick overall

    Christian Ehrhoff

Maybe a throw in prospect, but over all risky with the recapture penalty. But I believe a deal centered around these components is viable, just opinion mind you.

    EBERLE DEAL

    To Buffalo

    1st pick overall

    Jordan Eberle

    To Edmonton

    2nd pick overall

    Christian Ehrhoff

    Mark Pysyk or Braydon McNabb

Other components can be added on the minor side of things once again. My thoughts on Pysyk are to keep him, but Eberle is much more established talent then Yakupov right now.

Please remember, I'm throwing these out there to see if any members can tweak it as they see the value as it is. We have defensive depth to continue the rebuild. Please give input to tweaking these deals or putting up your own with value for each club in mind. And I'd like some feed back as well, am I in the ball park given McKenzie's comments?

    Thanks All.........

  10. I guess the problem here is that the writing isn't really on the wall at all. It's more of a belief.

Well, let me restate it then. It's more of a conclusion based on his actions to date. I see no reason why it's hard to believe however, especially after he dumped the condo with no new long term living quarters in the area. That is a very telling sign right there. Not to mention, normally players such as Miller if there was a real chance of re-signing, don't get thrown into the trade equation. I.E. Murray stating they are all for sale is the price is right.

There's the situation with making Buffalo a destination for players, retaining Miller I'd have to believe is paramount in order to make that happen (again by the way) and I don't see it happening with a full on "dump the vets and UFA's" policy they've switched to. Common sense would dictate he's outta here in my opinion.

  11. Really, there is no argument that ETHRON (I helped that get going, just so you all know I love the kid) can supplant Miller. It's just not there. If that's where people are going, I'll just drop out of the thread, because that's really stupid.

I don't believe people think he can supplant Miller. I believe a majority of us don't look through rose colored glasses and see the writing on the wall. Miller is as good as gone. You don't sell your nearly 1 million dollar condo then wait till the last second to sign a contract with the team. He's gone man, outta here, hitting the road. It's reality, the sooner many except it, the sooner we can move along with the rebuild.

Enroth can step in as the starter until the net minder situation is addressed down the road. Remember, we have another season to tank yet, so there is time for the likes of Ullmark and Makarov to develop a bit.

  12. Enroth signed a very team-friendly two-year deal with the understanding he would get his shot after Miller was gone, and his eyes on a massive payoff as a UFA at the end of next year.If he's automatically backing up a Halak I would expect him to be upset. Given an equal shot with a Halak and failing, he'd have no one to blame but himself.

We could always take Halak in the Miller deal as a salary dump to St. Louis then flip him to Edmonton for..........whatever......

  13. LOL, this thread just randomly pops up from time to time and I still get a chuckle out of the title.........

I caught the Sabres fire sale video in another thread,

buy one under-achiever (Stafford), get a second under-achiever (Leino) for free........

Man, this site does make my day.

Oh, and Stafford needs to stay, so we can hit the Cap floor next season. Which brings me to my next point, wouldn't you all throw ######-fits if we re-sign him after his contract is up to reach the Cap floor then :P

  14. It's interesting that there now seems to be a top five developing.

I'm wondering where the Islanders deferral line is. Perhaps at six?

If they do give us the pick this year and it's between five and 10, history shows we will have the ammunition to move up.

I can only hope. I have to wonder if not getting Vanek re-signed by the dead line and him going to test the FA market would have a significant impact on their hopes in the McDavid sweepstakes.

  15.

Many thanks. I think I understood that concept in theory, but had no idea of who the universe of those players might be.

From St. Louis, here is what I have information wise on 4 of their fowards that meet the criteria from some Blues fans:

Dimitrij Jaskin, RW, 20 yrs old, Has already played a handful of games with the big club, projects to be Chris Stewarts replacement in the line up so say Blues fans, but he is a scoring winger as to where stewart is more of a power forward.

Ty Rattie, 20 yrs old, LW, AHL affiliate, hasn't been with the big club but Blues fans I spoke with say he is a playmaker/sniper, shifty, 20+ goal guy is what they see in him.

William Carrier, LW, 19 yrs old, still in juniors, some Blues fans say he have the same type of player in the Catenecci skill set.

There is also Kurker, 19 yrs old, LW, still in juniors similiar situation to Carrier.

Then there is Taresenko and Schwartz, both up with the big club, I cannot see us landing either of these guys.

So, out of the 4 mentioned and with Stewarts UFA status I can see Stewart due to the cap situation if it is a multi player deal but the best bet is Ty Rattie in my opinion. Not that Jaskins couldn't be had, but it seems less likely as he's a RW'er and given our need at LW it seems to fit better.

Anyways, that's what I have information wise, not sure if this helps.

  16. Here's what we can expect next year: suck a little or suck a lot. In terms of entertainment value and hope of winning the Cup those two options are exactly the same to me. The only place that they differ is in the opportunity they give you to secure elite talent (it doesn't begin and end with McDavid either). One gives you very little chance, the other gets you in a legitimate conversation.

I'm printing this out and pinning it to my bed head board. I hope the wife makes the right choice because she's been a trooper this year :o

She's helped ease a lot of my Sabres angst throughout this season. Barring injury I expect a full on run to the end of the season ;)
