  1. Is this about Miller?

In any case, are you still feeling good about Enroth, who is now 1-10?

    Eeeeeesssshhhh.

I don't believe relying on Miller to stick around is the answer, and obviously Enroth needs the games to garner some experience. I don't believe Enroth has much to do about the future, just the bridge to the future.

  2. FWIW, I would be asking for Jake Allen, but if I was the Blues, I would say no.

    Yup. Agreed on both counts.

Yes, Allen would be the ideal return, but I also don't see that happening.

However, Jaskin's interests me along with either Rattie, Taresenko or Schwartz. And unless this is an expanded deal outside of just moving Miller, I don't see that happening.

I look to Paavarji+Halak+Jaskin. A couple of young wingers and a salary dump, but we may have to add on our end a bit more than we'd like to swallow, not sure though.

  3. Relatively equal prospects, but I would take Jaskin over Rattie. Jaskin is a big kid who can score. Rattie has great hands and hockey sense, but is small and not very fast.

I don't believe Jaskin or Rattie are in the conversation unless we add, and most likely a forward prospect, most likely center since they have an abundance of winger prospects.

I'm looking at Paajarvi (22 yrs old, most likely what Murray is looking for development/age wise), Kurker or Carrier (both are 19 and still in their junior system) as the likely 3. Just my opinion is all. All 3 are LW'ers.

  4. With Miller having quite a bit of leverage, I would think he would hold out for a more favorable landing spot with regards to a playoff run this year. Remember that as a UFA at the end of the year he is most likely testing free agency anyways, so Edmonton doesn't accomplish anything since they aren't making a playoff run this year.

Agreed. If it is the Blues in the end, what type of return for Miller are we looking at?

I can't see them willing to part with Rattie or Schwartz and Taresenko wouldn't even be in the conversation for a UFA Miller. This is just my thoughts of course.

Carrier and Kurker while taking back Halak for salary reasons and a 1st/2nd maybe? Don't know, any thoughts from anyone else specific to the St. Louis scenario?

  5. Kevin Sylvester and Andrew Peters were talking about it just now on hockey hotline, specifically the Blues scenario, Edmonton was brought up and Kevin Sylvester whispered that was already attempted. I have to assume based on that gaffe that was heard online that Miller nixed going to Edmonton with his 8 team no trade list. Just an assumption on my part, but well within the realm of reason. St. Louis offers something alluring to Miller, a chance to contend for the Cup now. Take it with a grain of salt.........

  6. Thank you Mr. Pegula, for all that you do.

You hand out hope like it was candy to children.

Continue on, we here in Western New York are fortunate to have an individual such as yourself that we can call team owner, neighbor, community leader through vision and to act upon those traits from your core.

    Thank you once again!

  7. I think it's night and day when comparing Hodgson and Kassian.

For one, Kassian is playing with immensely gifted offensive players in Vancouver from time to time. Their depth in that line up is decent.

The second thing is the roles they both play, until we get Hodgson some consistent scoring wingers he's going to remain at the numbers he's putting out now roughly.

  8. I take away 2 points from the trade perspective of that article.

    1. TM implies Miller's destiny is in his own hands on whether or not he'd like to stay, but in the same paragraph he states that being fair to Miller and getting him into position for a Cup run he understands. TM spoke on trading for players not just picks.

    2. The other UFA's in Buffalo don't expect to be here next season, but surely some will.

We can speculate on where players will go and what we'd get in return, that's all good and fun. But after reading those comments, I expect the Sabres to be major players in the trade market up to and including deadline day. Did anyone else get this take on that article, or is it just me?

  9. I didn't mean for my post to sound like i was being a smart ass if it did. A lot of these GM's are like a good ole boys club and i think would talk to one another even if they were not supposed to. I just think it is too important of time of year to just shut down completely.

I hear you with not staying up on things as much in the past. Crazy what being so lousy will do. I never even used to care about the draft. It was in June and i was golfing. Could care less. Now it's all we have.

No biggie man and I hear ya on paying attention. It seems as though these past 4 years I've been learning all kinds of details as I dive into the team as a whole. It shows that I'm emotionally vested in not just the sport, but the team particularly. And that says alot considering I was born the same year the team was. I remember the 80's with them quite well, back when I was 10 to 13/14 years old I kept files on each player and updated them each game with G, A, GAA's and so on. Not since then have I been so vested in the team as I am now.

  10. Do you think Varone is getting traded?

    For Patrick Kane :P

    Sorry, couldn't resist........

Probably just the one game and then he will go back down. Just giving everyone a look before the break. Have to figure a lot of wheeling and dealing will take place during this 2 week break.

Should make for a very exciting stretch from post-Olympics to the deadline.

Are you sure they can wheel and deal during the 2 week freeze?

  11. If Ottawa isn't offering Zach Smith I'm not interested.

Kings are interesting, wonder if Jordan Nolan would be involved in any package?

The Kings roster page has him listed as a Center. Outside of his scoring stats, does anyone have any information on his face off %? PK ability?

What is Jordan Nolan's specialty exactly?

Oh, and he looks a great deal like dad.

wanted to say same thing, he is first D on my trade/dump list.

He's a good leader, a good body usage guy, but his skating......yikes........

  12. Why would he come here? Why. Give one reason that isn't "he's from south buffalo"

Also I don't want him. He is to immature to be the most talented player on a team by a long shot.

Also tank, you have 0 ground to criticize anyone or pile on aftere all the ###### you have flung. Face facts Kane hasn't ever said anything about coming back here. He likes Chicago and is staying there.

So keep telling me about Kane to buffalo but unless you mean evander... It is not happening.

Take it easy there LGR, I kid of course. I am indifferent as to whether or not Kane would or would not come to Buffalo. I merely said yes please when someone posted it. And as to the point if he would or would not ever come to Buffalo. As players get up in their 30's, especially ones that have won multiple Cups, I'd suspect the right amount of money would get them here, maybe not in every case, but I can see it as plausible.

  13. I know I will get eaten alive for this line of thinking...but, I think it is possible.

Grigorenko, Girgensons, Ennis, Foligno, Armia, Ristolainen, Zadorov, Myers, McCabe, Pysyk...is a nice group. Add to that, Reinhart, Dal Colle or Draisaitl in 2014, and McDavid or Eichel in 2015...that's a great foundation to build on.

Then add Ryan Callahan in the summer of 2014 and Patrick Kane in this summer of 2015? That's the making of a contender. Plus there is plenty of talent in the goalie ranks...and still extras like Compher, Bailey and Baptiste to work with.

(Might have to trade some decent pieces to NYR and CHI just for the rights to negotiate with those guys...but I do think it is possible, especially with what Murray and PLF said about "homegrown talent." Not to mention, once you get Callahan in here and a possible #1 overall pick, it will make it easier to get Kane to come back home.)

Anything is possible...more so now, than ever before in Buffalo...especially with who we have running the show. I know it is a longshot for those guys to even make it to free agency, but if they do, Buffalo has as good a shot at landing them as anyone else in the league...especially if they start turning this thing around the right way. I am sure those two would love to come play for two Hall of Famers and help turnaround their childhood/hometown team.

    Ok, I woke up...dream over.

Yes please to both Callahan and Kane. Ok, wake me up now as well.

  14. Murray all but said we are going for a high pick next year. He said there are was to manipulate your standings at the trade deadline to insure a higher draft pick. And also that next year holds the elite talent and that they are looking to get said talent. Embrace the tank next year. It is happening. Which imo means miller is gone. This has been stated. Keep calm and carry on. Mcdavid 2014

Absolutely agree. Maintain the path, do not waiver, there is a light at the end of this dark tunnel and I'm counting on it being a cup contending team.

  15. Go look at seymon varlamovs numbers then come back and explain to me what Colorado would want with miller.

I look at many teams and players numbers. Varlamov lacks some experience in the big game realm and Colorado's defense is porous at times. A net minder that can steel games would be worth it's weight in gold to a club such as them. As I stated, it's just a hunch. I don't follow the pack the way many do, so to speak, I form my own opinions then put them out there.

Edit: Oh, and I firmly believe this is Miller's last season in Buffalo. Nothing short of him re-signing prior to the Olympics would have me believe other wise. I suspect many fans haven't been able to wrap their heads around the fact that indeed, he is already gone they just don't know it yet. Unfortunately, they will be disappointed,

  16. Trade Miller,

He's already sold his condo. He's riding out the end of his Buffalo Sabres journey, there can be no doubt in anyone's mind. You get what you can for him and move along with the rebuild. Re-signing him is not an option in my humble opinion and letting him walk to UFA would be insane with 0 return.

As for teams to trade with, St. Louis is the most spoken of, but I'd wager that Philly, Washington and even Colorado would generate some interest in Miller. Just a hunch on all of those listed.

  17. The Best Case Scenario:

The Sabres complete their tank (for once) and finish the year with in the bottom 3 (only Edmonton and Calgary are worse). They land one of Reinhart, Ekblad, Bennett, Dal Colle, or Draisaitl.

The Islanders defer the traded pick until next season, giving the Sabres two 2015 1st rounders.

The 2014-2015 Sabres get off to a strong start in October and are never in contention for the first overall pick in 2015. Instead, they're fighting for a playoff spot and I don't have to spend several months hoping they tank. Then I never again have to hope for a tank because the NHL completely re-does its draft lottery so that finishing dead last doesn't help (i.e. the first 14 picks among non-playoff teams are completely random).

The 2014-2015 Islanders completely implode, giving the Sabres one of the top 2 picks in the draft anyway.

And here's what will almost certainly happen:

Miller and Enroth continue to be our two best players and drag the Sabres up the standings until they are in their customary 8-12 spot in the draft come June.

The Islanders continue playing great (and, FWIW, entertaining) hockey so that we end up with the no.10 or 11 pick from them in 2014.

The 2014-2015 Sabres get off to a terrible start but finish strong to land the no.8 pick in 2015.

Drew Stafford signs a 10 year extension and says he wants to retire as a Sabre. He plays the next 10 seasons like he is already retired.

    Wow........Just Wow!!!!!

There is no curse by the way.

Buffalo drafts 1 or 2 in June. The Islanders draft 8 to 11 and do not defer. They give it to us.

One of Montreal, Minny or LA trade for Moulson hoping to increase their goal production, particularly on the PP. It doesn't happen. Buffalo ends up with 2 picks in the 8/9 to 13/14 range and trades up to the 6th position, selecting Nick Ritchie.

    At least, one can hope.

I kid, I kid of course, but in all seriousness, this may be the perfect year for Buff to land 2 inside of the top 6. My fingers are crossed in any event.
