Read complete scouting
report from EP draft guideAnton is a big centre with good wheels. He is a fast skater with a long stride. He is strong on his skates and covers the puck well. He likes to come with speed and challenge the defence. He is good at deking close to his body and to take the puck to the inside. Wahlberg can truly hold on to a puck. He has the qualities needed to work the boards, extend possession, and create better offensive looks for his team.
He's got a much smaller ice surface to play on in Rochester. Sounds like it'll be an adjustment based upon this scouting report

It’s Youth Hockey Day in Sabre Land.
Since the early 70’s the Sabres PR department, under the excellent leadership of Paul Wieland, started a free afternoon open Sabres practice for the kids. Many kids that I knew never went to real Sabres game back then because every game was sold out, 16,433 in The Aud every game. So this was a way for kids to see the team and for the players to reach out. They practiced drills, played a blue gold scrimmage, and Paul would put on his pads. These were great events, lots of fun, and always filled to capacity.
Perhaps some of the old timers here attended one, they first occurred over Christmas break when schools were closed. The community really loved this team, Gilbert, Rico, Rene, Schoeny, Kong, Luce, Rammer, etc.
I guess all this died out and morphed into matinee games, kids day, and today’s matinee targets specifically - Youth Hockey Day.
The crowd today will consist mostly of young families with kids. Lots and lots of local youth hockey boys and girls will be there wearing their team’s jersey and cheering for the Sabres. Within those kids there may possibly be a few future players, and hopefully even some future fans.
The Sabres better be ready to play hard, be positive role models, put on a good show, win a home game, and acknowledge those kids in the crowd afterward. If that’s not the tradition anymore then it should be.
Can't count the number of open practices I attended during the 70's. Those Christmas break practices likewise filled the Aud with 16,433 children and accompanying parents.
Somehow, the scrimmage virtually always ended in a tie

First Sabres game at the Aud in Spring 1971 against the Blues - saw Bert set the rookie goal record, which he'd hold for a year. Couldn't fully comprehend why all the "good" players I'd seen play for the Bisons the year before weren't with the Buffalo hockey team anymore.

The Buffalo Sabres name and logo were selected by Seymour Knox in 1969. What were the other names under consideration?
There were several different options including the Buffalo “Mugwumps”, “Buzzing Bees”, and “Flying Zeppelins”.

I've not seen Levi "fight the puck" so much before. Since the opening shot he's just had difficulties holding it, seeing clean, and controlling his rebounds. Certainly makes things interesting, but it's a UPL-kinda interesting and not a cerebral-interesting.
I usually listen on radio. Watching tonight - Levi’s lack of rebound control is disconcerting. Is this a regular issue or a bad night?

Anyone remember the Sabrejak? I had one a long time ago. We knew the owner of the company, Bojax. Now it's worth about $200.

When I saw the headline I assumed someone still had their Sabrejak.

I'd have to say that the Pens are my least favorite team in the league.
Stunning statement for a Sabres fan prior to an apocalypse removing the Bruins from the face of the earth

… and Vadnais,he has to clean his clock too. Schoeny was 3-0 that night, the only time I recall seeing that without a Donnybrook happening.
Even the Zamboni was at risk that night

The sweaters worn by both these teams have a 70's throwback feel. I'm waiting to see Schoenfeld beat the #### out of Cashman.
He’s got to get Orr first

I had tickets or vouchers for two Zeppelin concerts that never happened.
The first would have been around 77/78 and I thought someone had a bike accident although I’m not 100% sure. The second was when Bonham died which I think was around 80.
I'm in the same boat. When I tell the story, people wonder if I still have the tickets - heck no, I was a student and returned them for the $20/$25 they cost

The best cover band of the 70’s in Buffalo was ***** Robin

Talas had a regular Monday Show at a Club called Stage One.
On December 8th, 1980 a little known band from Ireland opened for them called U2
Bono still refers to playing this show in Buffalo the day that John Lennon was killed
