  1. I'm looking forward to the new Rush CD Clockwork Angles CD in 2012. If the two songs they already released are any indication this will be their heaviest album in years. BU2B rocks.

    All is for the best

    Believe in what we're told

    Blind men in the market

    Buying what we're sold

    Believe in what we're told

    Until our final breath

    While our loving Watchmaker

    Loves us all to death

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bq7R65CYyb4

easily one of my favorites of all time ... and the CD hasn't even dropped yet. i caught them out here last summer. when they played it, my brother and i were singing along word for word at the top of our lungs. EVERYone around us was looking at us like we were out of our minds, but we didn't care. when it was over, one guy came up to us and said, "holy **it. HOW the hell did you know ever word to that song?! they haven't even released the new CD yet!" we told him it was on itunes for a dollar, and he went ballistic. THEN we told him that that's the "b" track to the actual single (caravan). he almost started dry-humping the row of chairs in front of us. it was ... creepy.

  2. That's the exact thing my sister said! haha! I asked her if she wanted to go watch the game with me, and she was like, "meh, I'd rather repaint my bedroom, I have the stuff, and them losing just gives me the motivation to do other things!" haha!

no way. seriously?! that's funny. we seriously went paint shopping last night and got all the stuff--paint, rollers, trays, corner and ceiling edgers, pour spouts, drop cloths ... should be fun.

except i'm bone-weary tired. it's actually more tiring trying to look busy at work than it is to actually *be* busy. problem is that my project wrapped up last week, and my boss is on vacation this week, so he can't dole out any work, and everyone i asked if they needed help said that they were in the same boat--no work, no boss. so finally i just said, "screw it" and messed around on google maps and youtube.

  3. Not to jinx you, but the Sabres are 0-4 in their last 4 road games.

that really brought my mood down

you know, i think i'll just repaint my bedroom tonight. we've been talking about it for weeks. no time like the present. already have the paint and supplies ... just need to do it.

  4. YES I am with you on all of this...

P.S. The sabres play tonight so i guess that evens out to just an ok friday :(

but it's a road game so it has less chance of sucking.

WOAH! it's Friday! second three day weekend in a row (no work Monday B-) )

Quiet day at work today, and lack of people here means I may even be able to duck out early without anyone noticing :clapping:

the beauty of next week is that i have a 3 day work week. THAT is awesome. :)

  5. A. Happy last work day of the year.

    B. Happy new year.

    C. Leaving work at noon to take the fam to (FINALLY) see the new muppet movie.

    D. Mentioned by SwampD in the "Complaint Thursday" thread, Pomplamoose frickin' rocks. Ignore her "Steven Segal" one-look pony or whatever. Her vocals are smouldering. and DAMN she's hot! Not to mention that they're just a fun, fun band.

DAH! Almost forgot the big E!

    E. Planning a 3-week road trip to WNY! Leaving July 22, getting back to Utah August 12. Could not be any more excited for this trip. We're taking the 70 there and the 90 on the way back. Lots of stops along the way, but no more than 5-6 days on the road each way.

  6. I just can't get past the fact that she is on Rolling Stone's list of 100 Greatest Guitarists and yet Alex Lifeson is not. I shouldn't hold it against her but I do.

rush gets snubbed a lot. and it's tragic--especially considering the sheer volume of quality music they've made. even their two newest singles are amazing. and they're quickly approaching 60.

the great thing about them is that they just don't care. hall of fame, no hall of fame, recognition ... whatever. they make music cuz they like doing it.

seriously, if you haven't heard BU2B yet, you *have* to check it out. it's out of this world amazing.

  7. unfortunately, i had a lapse of judgment this morning and busted out the high beams.

    Girls Gone Wild style?

Got a friggin jury duty request in the mail. Starts next Tuesday. Shoot me now.

hey SDS can you write me a letter? lol

hmm ... i sense an idea here.

  8. Not a genre that most people like, but I think Angela Gossow of Arch Enemy brings it (although I normally have a strong preference for male singers when it comes to heavy music).

maria brink of "in this moment' is good. she has an incredible dynamic range ... not so much octave range, but she can belt it or croon it.

  9. Some people on the roads are NUTS and need to be avoided at all costs. A few months ago, I was trying to get into the right hand turn lane, and just needed the guy in front of me to move up a few feet(he was going straight). I gave him one small honk of the horn. He didn't budge, the light turned green), he went straight through the intersection, made a u turn, followed me, and proceeded to start screaming out his window at me. I ignored him, and he drove off.

Road rage is out of control, and like I said, needs to be avoided at all costs. You never know who you are dealing with.

couldn't agree more. unfortunately, i had a lapse of judgment this morning and busted out the high beams. not even remotely necessary, but what's done is done. no, i don't think he'll camp out in front of my building all day, but who knows? psychos are just that--psycho.

  10. wow. I've had someone follow me home before (about a year or so ago), which is just as scary. He cut me off twice in traffic, then when I passed him (after we got out of Ithaca) because he was doing 45-50 in a 55, he tailgated me the last 10 miles home. when I turned onto my road, I flipped him off, and then he slammed on his brakes. He found my car in my driveway, came and knocked on the door, and wanted me to step outside to talk. I had my large, aggressive (a good thing this time), dog by the collar, and was like, "no thank you?" after a few minutes of yelling at me to put my dog inside and talk like a man, I threatened to let my dog loose (foaming at the mouth now from the excitement). At that point, the guy left.

I doubt the guy will wait for you. He'll get bored if he has to wait all day for you lol.

if he does, that's fine. i know what he looks like, and what his car looks like. like i said, i'm not violent. we have plenty of security guards patrolling our facility; i'll just flag them down and inform them that he's stalking the campus. he'll be detained, interrogated, and eventually let go. maybe. if not, oh well.

  11. no lie ... some ass hole with a vendetta literally followed me all the way to my office. This guy zipped in and out of traffic like he couldn't care less about anyone else. He cut me off 3 times in about 5 miles, and I was in the HOV lane, double white lines. A) You can't pass in a double white, B) just guessing, but I'm willing to bet he doesn't have an HOV lane pass. Finally, he cut me off a 4th time, and I high beamed the hell out of him. He scooched over to the next right lane over, then slowed down, THEN pulled even with me and started yelling at me. All kinds of wild gesticulations, etc, then he slowed down more and pulled in behind me. Followed me all the way to my building, where the last mile of the drive is a semi-lonely stretch of 2-lane roadery. He pulled even with me and mouthed, "I'M GOING TO F*** YOU UP!!" I shake my head, look over at him, and mouth, "NO YOU'RE NOT," then I pulled in to my secure parking lot.

I don't know what his deal is, but I wouldn't be surprised if he sat outside my parking lot waiting for me this afternoon/evening.

Partly I'm mad at myself for even stooping to the brighting, so really I have no one to blame but myself, but seriously? Following someone 20 miles just to mouth, "I'M GOING TO F*** YOU UP" only to drive away?

    Whatever.

  12. Unfortunately this is how I always look!

there is *nothing* wrong with that. :)

i'd also go with chz's advice. schedule the MRI for about 2:30. that way, you have to leave RIGHT when the meeting starts. then conveniently forget that you had the appt. and head straight to ... anywhere else. cuz, you know ... concussions can cause short-term memory loss.

    can't they ...?

  13. Hats off to you, CSB -- you literally saved Christmas for that little girl, and that was awesome. I remember a number of years back my parents did something similar for my cousin... they never had much money anyhow, and his step-dad was an alcoholic A-hole who went out and drank away the money he was supposed to use for presents. So, my parents bought a bunch of inexpensive toys and things for my cousin and let him think it was all from Santa. I can't understand people like those parents, but again, good on you. :worthy:

    My complaints:

    1) Headaches yesterday and today. I love my dog, but his constant interruption of my sleep (and insufficient sleep in general, combined with long work hours) are really starting to wear on me.

    2) Only 7 more working days at my current job, and I have way more work to do than I can realistically complete in that timeframe. Sometimes I wish I didn't give a sh!t, but I want to make sure everything is in order for my replacement, and honestly it's to my benefit as well because I'm cramming to finish experiments for a paper on which I'll be first author.

    3) My boss, who has been in England since mid-August, came back today and wants to have what is almost guaranteed to be a two hour meeting tomorrow, starting at 2pm. Ugh.

i don't know, but from here, you look a little pale and ... well, may i just say it? not well. you should probably take the day off and get better. ;)

yah ... listen to me. i wouldn't even pull that stunt. :)

  14. Unless I'm writing just a few lines, I always write my Sabrespace missives in a plain text file, then copy and paste it into the "Reply" field. That way, if it gets messed up, I have a backup copy. Sorry, I'm an IT guy, so I have this thing about making backup copies of everything.....

Today's complaint - board moderators who crop their avatars just at the point where they are getting interesting...

    :clapping:

and a quick thank you to she whose avatar is the cause of Sabre Dance's consternation.

my complaint: program engineers who claim to have reviewed a manual 2 months ago and at the time said everything was fine, but come to find out, 2 days before the customer wants the document, that s/he feels there are significant changes that need to be rolled in to the final product. this is *not* due to any changes to the hardware or software ... just changes s/he would like to see implemented and feels would "be of great benefit to the customer." these changes are generally procedural in nature, such as "disconnect hard drive from computer" instead of my multi-step procedure on how to actually disconnect the hard drive and reinstall a new one. so for the most part, nothing of real substance.

ohhhh ... except for the part where this hard drive now has to be encrypted, where nowhere in the SOW does it say that the hardware is classified and requires any kind of encryption, which raises a boat-load of questions: "what's driving the need for the encryption?" "who requested this?" "what encryption standard is being used?" "what type of key is being used?" and of course, this PE has gone and scheduled the rest of the week off and all of next week for vacation, leaving me no one to contact regarding any questions i have.

awesome. good thing my manager has my back.

other complaint: manager says he wants to buy my old phone for his daughter for christmas. "can i take it home and show it to her?"

me: "ummm ... sure. i guess."

    manager: "great! thanks."

next day, he says, he'll offer $80. "well, hmm. actually, i have it posted on craigslist for $150, so ... i mean, i guess i could go $100, but that's as low as i can go."

manager: "okay. can i bring you the cash tomorrow?"

    me: "i ... guess. sure."

this was tuesday. as of this morning, i have neither phone nor cash in hand. and yes--you guessed it: he's off the rest of the week.

My girlfriend has 3 kids, two boys from her first marriage and a daughter from her second. The boys dad lives in Hawaii and sends them crap all the time. The girl's dad is totally MIA and has seen her once in the past 4 years (she's 6). No Christmas presents, no birthday cards, nothing. She's the sweetest thing, who absolutely loves my son. On Tuesday the boys got a big box in the mail with all their Christmas presents from Hawaii. In the past their Dad has included a present for the girl, but this year he didn't as he's pissed at my girlfriend for pulling a child support review (dude pays $1800/mo for his house in HI, and complains about paying $200/mo for his boys who he sees once a year). Needless to say, the girl was devastated, as here her brothers have about 6 gifts each from their dad, and she knows that once again her dad doesn't give a ######.

My girlfriend was telling me about how her daughter was flipping out and so upset, so after my hockey game tuesday night, I stopped at the store and spent $15 on a few little "girly" items - some lip gloss, hair bows, new crayons, stuff like that. Got home, wrapped it all up, put it in a box, and made it look all legit with postage and the works, but with no return address or markings to know where it came from.

Last night I stopped by and hid it under a chair on the front porch. The boys were in bed, but the girl was still up, so I told her there was a box outside that came in the mail. She didn't believe me, so she went to check. She comes running back in the house with a box addressed to her and starts flipping out. She begs her mom to let her open the presents, and tears them open before she even gets the "ok." I've never seen a kid more excited to get a few little things. All the while she keeps saying "I knew my daddy wouldn't forget me again!" After everything is opened and she's beaming from ear to ear, my girlfriend is cleaning everything up and goes to throw out the box, but her daughter stopped her and insisted she keep it. Why? She said she "always wanted to remember the day her daddy finally sent her something." At this point my girlfriend is bawling, and wants to tell her the truth, but I wouldn't let her. She doesn't need to know.

So my complaint is about douchebag guys like that who if they'd only take a whopping 10 minutes could make their kid feel like the most important kid in the world. Crap like that just pisses me off to end.

    OH.

    MY.

    EFFFFING.

    HELL.

    dude, two things:

    1. GOOD ON YOU for making her feel like a princess. no kid in the world deserves that. you totally made her life. that's most excellent and commendable.

    2. i would write the dad a very long, lengthy nasty-gram and tell him what a prick he is for putting his kid through that.

  15. So would you say it's FRACK-TASTIC?! ;)

And I am due for an upgrade in a week, and couldn't decide if I wanted to go from the current iPhone to the 4s, or switch to a droid, and you may have just swayed me towards the 4S option...thank you LOL

glad i could help! yah, i take my phone to concerts and video them. the 4S was a foregone conclusion with the upgrading of the sensor, the wider diameter aperture, and the 1080p capability. now i just need to get to a show and test drive this thing! my 4 did a great job. took it to U2, death cab, they might be giants ... always fantastic recordings. the sound is flawless; you can even hear high hats. THAT is impressive. and supposedly, the 4S has a better condenser mic than the 4! so yah--it was a "had to have."

    "frack-tastic." HELL YES!!!

  16. first batch of tie-dye shirts look F'N FAN-FRICKIN'-TASTIC. tons of positive comments at work, lots of ideas to set up at various booths and fairs around the state ... we could have some serious fun with these things. not a single negative comment. though in the interest of full disclosure, not a big fan of the 'blue and gold' one we did. colors bled a lot (of course) and ended up turning green in some areas (so yes--blue and gold DO make green!!).

got the new iphone 4S yesterday too. faster, better pics, higher quality vids, more storage. what's not to like about that?

to the hater of christmas cookies, your heart is two sizes too small. ;) i supposed you'd also steal all the who hash?

  17. mid-afternoon date lunch with the spouse at costa vida. sweet pork nachos, come home and take a nice, long, hot shower. no, there is no connection between the date and the shower, sadly.

say what you will, but nothing beats a hot shower. except a soak in a hot tub, which i do not have. yet.

  18. Complaint?

Yet another tragedy at Virginia Tech happening right now. Two have been shot and confirmed deceased on campus, including a police officer. We're in lockdown now, but it's really f***ed up that they haven't found the shooter yet.

wait, you're actually there AT VA TECH?! holy hell, stay safe. please keep us updated!!!

  19. I'll definitely make an exception for that; it may be a 4-door, but the WRX is a rally-style car so a spoiler is acceptable. My issue is with people driving Accords and Camrys with spoilers (in addition to the young fools that put those stupid wings that are bigger than the trunk on their cars).

what about a 4-door civic? 2006 model? dark blue? AND let's say that the spoiler is painted gold ....

  20. HAHA! I wish I had my old memory card from my old phone, as there was a picture on there of a mini-van with a large spoiler. I saw it on the 90 like a year and a half ago.

btw. I love the picture of beaker!

yah, my wife and i went on a muppets movies marathon a few weeks ago. that image is now my phone wallpaper--lock and background screen, facebook avatar, and now here. i couldn't resist.

if you can find that picture of the minivan, that'd rule. we don't actually have one, but man ... now i have all kinds of awesome ideas to pimp it out.

I'm getting laid off next Friday. Let the job hunt begin.

dude, i'm sorry man. that really sucks. but ya know, i'll give your company props for giving you at least a week's notice. i *hate* finding out that my last day of work is that day. the last two companies i've worked for had lay-offs, and i was "effected" both times.

you're welcome. glad you could chuckle. :)
