18 of the 23 guys on this roster need to grow a PP. -
Vanek Miller Hodgson Erhoff Myers [This is assuming we get "fair trade value" for Pommer, which means Crosby+Kunitz or Getzlaf+Perry are coming back]
-
No, we'll need to change some/most of the posters, but we're never going to really know what we have until we change the FO and Mod. There are 2-3 can't miss highschoolers posting primarily on twitter right now. If we can trade up and get one of them after they graduate in june, it could set a new tone for the next decade.

I don't think it can be proven. A change in the point structure might change the last 5 minutes of regulation in a lot of games. Edit: Carp beat me to it....and used a lot more words!!

This is an excellent topic. He has played 2 game sevens and lost both. The excuses for those games have been well documented, regardless, Miller did not Hasek his way to victory. That is beyond dispute. He was below his average in both. But his sv% in games 5 and 6 is .921 vs a sv% of .919 in the first 4 games. I'm not sure i see the decline.
-
The question was about consistency. His high SV% and low deviation from that mean is irrefutable evidence of that consistency.
-
He's 8th among active goalies in SV%. 5th in Salary. He's pretty much in line. You won't find 5 goalies that consistent, let alone 10.
-
I'm looking at Enroth's entire 16 game losing streak. 11/29/11 to 3/12/13. Miller's Numbers were significantly better. Which is contrary to what you wrote.
-
Except, during that span, he didn't. Not even close.
-
Miller's year over year save % does not indicate he has been "solved". He has been ridiculously consistent with the exception of 2009-10. Ridiculously consistent. .914 .911 .906 .918 .916 .916

I'm thinking more along the lines of # of years remaining with separation from the next available player to take their place. I think Pommer and Vanek will be better than the "other guy" longer than Miller. Mich longer. It is more difficult to replace a scoring winger like Vanek, and they have "impact" longer than a comparable top end goaltender. Hasek and Roy were very good after 35, but neither was the "Key Guy" on their teams. The Avs and Wings both continued to be very good after the goalies left.
-
I agree with everything you've said. Please see the context of my statement.
-
Miller is almost 2.5 years older than Pominville, and 3.5 years older than Vanek?

If Pegula is serious about winning. This will not be a problem. Every single GM in the league should be in play: -
I speak this only in the context of replacing net point production. He is a good player. He used to be good a defense. But if you're looking to replace THIS YEARs production. I don't think it would be terribly difficult.

It puts some defense on the hodgson/Pommer line. It makes a little sense. Try everything. 19 games worth of experiments. -

You are correct, but you can't starve to death in the mean time. You have to have enough to win some games and compete. Otherwise you pollute your plot of land by teaching them to lose. -
IMO, Miller is the only MUST TRADE on the team. He's older, and he'll be past prime by the time the new core group reaches maturity. I have no interest in resigning him, so I'd like to at least get a 1st and an RFA goalie in return. Stafford can go if you can get ANYTHING for him. Pominville and Regher, I'd be willing to hang on to and see what negotiating their contracts will look like, if it's no good, they can be traded in-season next year. (I understand Regher, is complicated by his NMC, and Pommer as well to a lesser extent) Vanek is the guy I build around during the transition. He just turned 29 this year. If there is anything at all, and pick, any round to be had for Hecht or Leo, I'm game.
-
I don't think Pominville would be hard to replace net-point-wise. I'm becoming more convinced that he is the one on that line riding coattails. His defensive lapses have been glaring. You might even get there just moving Ennis on that wing, if you think Grigorenko will hold down the 2C slot next year. Replacing Vaneks production would be much harder.

I'm not hoping for a loss, but I don't care if they win or not what I want to see is: The Brennan trade and the Grigorenko move, I believe, we specifically done to create maximum roster flexibility. I want to see every Amerk with NHL potential up in Blue and Gold for at least a week or two. We have to figure out what we have.
