  1.

I would like to see Ott stay. I would guess at age 30 that Ott will be looking for long range security. A three year deal paying $3-4 mil would be a good contract for the Sabres. I would guess that Ott could get much more on the UFA market. A longer term for bigger dollars wouldn't be in the Sabres best interest.

I think Ott is worth something crazy like 5 years 4.5 to 5 million. I like if we can get him for the money you suggested but i can not see it. Maybe 8 years at 3.5-4 million is possible but i am not sure we want this.

Rolston was 1-1 in OT and 6-4 in the shootout. He was 8-11 in regulation. And the Sabres have been playing that style the past 16 years........their holes have been revealed and only 50% have been potentially plugged. For every 1 year of Chicago or Pittsburgh winning the Cup by getting multiple top draft picks.....there is 10 years of the Florida Panthers....or 6 years of the Edmonton Oilers....or 10 years of the NY Islanders....or 7 years of the Columbus Blue Jackets....or 10 years of the Atlanta Thrashers/ Winnipeg Jets..........How are those 35 top 10 picks doing for them????

I like this post. High picks does not guarantee anything.

You need to be able to develop them in high quality players build the team around and need a good portion of luck to win the.stanley Cup.

I think the Nhl is working currently in two steps.

Step one: clinch a playoff spot in a very lomg 82 games season. For this you have to manage your energy, injuries, callups etc well.

Step two: Play good playoff hockey and make a deep run. Playoff hockey is different, it is harder, much more intense, a kind of attricion war, where you have to manage carefully your possible step ins if player get injured ( what is normal). Basically it is a total different game, because you need a team to be able to focus on important games, a team which is able to put in a higher gear on command, because in the playoffs you need this additional power.

Because of this i am not a fan of a complete rebuild from scratch. You need to get into the playoffs and show if Ou are able to play the second kind of hockey. During a rebuild you probably won't see playoff hockey in the beginning, but you really need to train the rookies how to play it early.

You need a core team in which you trust and build around it. If it does not work change the bad parts of the core and add new parts. When you have an expceptional scorer like Vanek, who also scores in the playoffs, i would not trade him if i am able to sign him instead. Miller can be traded, because good goaltenders can be found more often. Elite goaltenders not, but unfortunately he only showed us one elite season.

But now i am going away from my reply. I hope it is understandable what i wanted to write.

  3. Yeah was a great final to watch, and bayern deserves to win one after being in the final 3 times in the last 4 years.

can't wait till next year, with guardiola, i bet it will be a bust lol.

he got 300 million euro's in pocket change to go buy players :D

Because of this everybody who is not a Bayern fan in Germany hates them so much. Their strategy: Just buy the best players in your league and the best coaches and dominate.

My favorite team is Dortmund, so i really felt bad after the loss on Saturday. Hate them, but i am happy we dominated them for two years. Now our management and coach need to show some magic and find some great talents, again.

  4. I think this trade has a lot of losers.

28 losers to be exactly. 28 teams who now suffer from Kassian and Hodgson to be in the right places.

Kassian developed fine in Vancouver and Hodgson is doing very fine for Buffalo. I think Hodgson could be the missing piece for Pominville and Vanek like Robert was for Perreault and Rico. Yeah this is a very optimistic comparison, but what i am seeing from them now is exceptionel and amazing.

let's hope for the best for both of them and maybe they will each other in the SC finals some day.

  5. Been awhile since we've had some action in this thread......

Stopped in to the local whisky bar last night. For the last couple of months they've had a bottle of Talisker teasing me. Yesterday I gave in to temptation and ordered a glass. Just a hint of smoke on the nose. But WOW tons of smoke on the finish. Nice mouthfeel, a bit of honey sweetness, some peat, and then huge smoke and pepper. Not for the faint of heart. I was still tasting the smoke from this pour in the morning.

Not quite my cup of tea. But an interesting pour nonetheless.

Oh yeah i love Talisker. I have got a 10 year, 18 year, two special destillers editions and one 12 year filling. Talisker is a mouth filling scotch.

There is a lot of smoke taste, some sharpness like pepper ( not cheap wodka sharpness) some hints of leather, sometimes it tastes a little salty to me. I love this whiskey. The destillers edition tastes a little more fruity and smokey because of the use of a second barrel type. It is my favorite so far.

I also really like the smokynes ( i do not know if this is a real English word) of a 16 year old Lagavulin.

    I really like fine scotchs
