  1. Just read an article (mobile, no linkie) where Lucic basically swears off a return to his hometown unless it's to play hockey for another club.

A shame, really, and a black eye for Vancouver.

I've been to taverns and a club when Paddy Kane is around -- from what I can tell, the vibe he gets from yokel locals is very different, and almost uniformly positive. And that's even after something like the cabbie incident.

Maybe the vibe Kane gets changes when Chicago beats Buffao for a Cup and Kane runs rampant in the series.

Not that it is a likely scenario.....

  2. Americans are naturally bitter people, so they like hoppy beers. They also like bigger and bigger, more and more, so they want hoppier beers. :)

C'est la vie. I can't win them all.

I'd much prefer to gravitate away from IPAs for other reasons. There are a lot of truly fantastic IPAs. They can be used to really show off the capabilities and profiles of a hop. They can also be thrown in with reckless abandon. Brewing a balanced, functional IPA is far from what most breweries turn out. That does ruin it.

I'm all over the place. The only style of beer I don't particularly like (besides the American Adjunct Lager) is the California Common Ale (aka Steam beer). Just don't particularly like the styles.

I'm not a California Common fan either.

  3. Looks like this years a goldmine for UFA's. Thortnon, Marleu, Miller, Vanek, Statsny, Phaneuf, Gaborik, the list goes on and on.

I'd love to scoop Statsny, veteran center we could throw some cash at after losing Leino and maybe trading Stafford

Most will get signed by their present teams well before free agency starts.

Speaking of the cap it is now estimated that the cap will be 72mil next year. This is coming from the Owners meeting yesterday. This is no surprise and about where people thought it would be.

@DarrenDreger: 2014-2015 NHL salary cap projection delivered at B of G meeting. $71+ million next season."/ Spend, spend, spend!

  4. And what about Claude Julian ? He put Thornton on the ice to get retribution for the hit on Erickson which was clean imo. He apparently put him on the ice every time Orpik was out til he got him. The league has set a precedent in situations like this. I don't believe in punishing player selection but you have to wonder.

That's pretty serious if true. Link?

  5. Well I just watched the MArchand/Orpik/Thorton thing.

Orpik is a dumbass for what he did to Marchand. Of course Thorton punching a guy on the ice that he just jumped is GOON. 10games minimum for him. Orpik should also be suspended. If the NHL doesn't want to punish teams you will see sh!t like this continually. Bruins may be cheapshot artists but a lot of other teams do the same stuff. That being said punching a guy who you already tossed to the ice breaks every hockey code for everyone everywhere. You don't hit a guy who is down on the ice. Orpik you did it and I believe he deliberatly took that shot at Marchand. Thorton, you decked a guy who was under you on the ice... classless plays all around from everyone. These are 2 top teams but no top players.

I expect the suspensions to be:

    Orpik - 3 games

    Thorton - 7games

are you sure of what you saw? Neal was the one who kneed Marchand.

  6. Until last night, I would have said the same thing about Thornton. There are classless idiots wearing the spoked B. Past actions showed he wasn't one of them.

Thornton has a past history of jumping guys. I think it was last season, or maybe two, but he jumped Weber totally unsuspecting and started pounding him before Weber ever had a chance to get his gloves off. This incident is totally in character for Thornton.

  7. Had friends over for a holiday party last night. I received an interesting gift, a bottle of Rogue Dead Guy Whiskey. The label indicates that it is made from the same recipe as Dead Guy ale, double distilled, and then "sea aged" in oak barrels for one month. Naturally, it was opened and shared.

Very interesting stuff. It is very Irish whiskey in character. The nose was sweet and malt, cereal, and honey. Had a nice, viscous mouthfeel. Much more interesting on the palate than I expected. Honeysuckle, faint hints of green apple, and even some cinnamon and spice on the finish. It was a very soft, smooth pour. IMO it compared very favorably to a very good Irish whiskey.

I'm not sure what "sea aged" is, and I'm not sure it lent anything notable to the whiskey. If I tried I thought I picked up some briny notes but I suspect that was planted in my head by the "sea aged" statement on the label. If it is really there, it is extremely subtle. I've had some really briny Scotches. This is not like that at all.

If you enjoy Irish whiskeys I think Dead Guy whiskey is definitely worth a try.

  8. Dinner party tomorrow evening

Appetizers are a simple cheese and sausage plate and prosciutto and gruyere filled crescent rolls

roasted squash soup with chipotle and brown sugar

Bone in pork rib roast crusted with crushed black pepper and rosemary, served with a cherry pan sauce reduction

    Twice baked potatoes

    Old school green bean casserole

    Dessert is creme brule.

    the booze will flow.

  9. I scheduled a dr appointment for tomorrow. I don't frequent dr's. I've been having some lower right abdomen pain which I first thought was a muscle strain. Now, I'm thinking its something internal as its been over a month and it doesn't feel musculotal.

I haven't been to kind to my body over the years and I'm a little nervous. Of course, in the long standing inkman family tradition, I haven't told my wife.

Sounds kind of hernia-ish. Been there. I here the surgery these days has a much easier recovery these days.

  10. Interview tomorrow with a company and position MUCH more in line with my experience and career wishes. 1st interview was with just the HR mgr and it went very, very well. Interviewing tomorrow with two engineering group managers. Missed most of the game so far tonight prepping for the interview. I'm as ready as I've ever been.

  11. Had a tooth extracted this afternoon, which set me back $200 and means ice packs and mushy food for me the next few days. I'll never understand why people take hydrocodone (Vicodin) for recreational use; all it does is make me sleepy and nauseous.

Still no takers for the kitten, and this weekend my dad and stepmom are dropping off their dog to stay with me for a week. Already worried about the dog, but not looking forward to seeing how the kitten reacts and what he gets into in the process. My stepmom scared the crap outta him last week when they stopped by, so I'm almost as worried about her as the dog.

And yesterday my boyfriend of 6 years left to move to Oklahoma City for a new job. It's a long story, but essentially we've found ourselves at an impasse because he's not sure about marriage (hang-ups from past relationships) and I'm unwilling to pick ip my life and leave all my friends here to be his long-term girlfriend. And I'm not at all sure I want to live in OKC even if he gets his own issues resolved. I'll be going to visit and he's going to try and change my mind, but no idea how/if it'll work out and the situation just sucks.

Sorry to here it Bio. I suspect you are not ready to hear it now but, you strike me as good people, with a good personality. And we've seen your pics. I'd imagine when word gets around that Bio is lonely you'll have the best to select from.

  12. http://msn.foxsports.com/nhl/story/gino-odjick-former-nhl-enforcer-admitted-to-psychiatric-ward-cites-concussions-120313

Gino Odjick battling symptoms from repeated concussions.

Former NHL enforcer Gino Odjick, who spent time with the Vancouver Canucks as an on-ice "bodyguard" for star Pavel Bure, was admitted to the psychiatric ward of a Quebec-area hospital over the weekend, according to a report in The Journal de Montreal.

I’m here because of my concussion problems,” Odjick told QMI when reached Monday in the hospital. “Since I retired from hockey in 2002, I’ve spent 32 months in the hospital.
  13. Really?!

This team has not had a legit #1 centre since the Briere and Drury in their prime days. I'm one of the Hodgson supporters but only because I think he'll be a great fit as a second line centre. I'm not saying the guys mentioned are top line caliber players or not but saying this system needs a top six winger over centre is ridiculous IMO.

I'd argue you need to go even further than that. The team could go the way of the Briere - Drury days and keep getting centers, that team had three #2 centers. But to get to a bonafide #1 I'd argue you need to go further than Peca and talk about our new President of Hockey Operations.

Regardless of how we define #1 center, we still don;t have one. So we need to keep drafting centers til we find one or do the Drury/Briere thing and collect 3 or 4 number twos.
