what a surprise, punk ass Boychuk fighting
Punk ass Boychuck won it too. I love that Monty is game but he rarely wins them.

I'm hoping that we don't have to see GERBE on the top line tonight, playing there the other night really exposed how bad he's playing. In 37 NHL games he has 2 goals, that just doesn't cut it.
You should've put your request in sooner cuz I don't think Lindy got it in time for the 1st period.

I can't say that I've been real impressed with Mancari during any of his previous callups but I do like that we just got a little bigger now that he's in the lineup. I'd like to see him really use that size tonight.

My 2 cents:
1. I'll take the 2 points, and it's great to see Miller back in top form, but I'm not as enthused about this win as others here. Bottom line is that Ottawa is a pretty crappy team right now, and the Sabres were unable to score a single goal. They very easily could have lost that game.
2. The Sabres have one regulation win this entire GD year against a good team (LA). As DeLuca noted, they have a tough schedule next week -- Boston twice, SJ and Pittsburgh. I need to see three wins in those games in order to start feeling optimistic.
3. I'm glad Vanek scored in the SO, but I didn't think he had a great game overall. There is still too much cuteness in his game -- too many times when he has a clear shot from the faceoff circles or closer and instead opts for a fancy pass which inevitably gets deflected. He has a great slapper -- he needs to pull the trigger as often as possible.
4. On the positive side, Miller is really in the zone, and team defense is pretty close to being where it was last year. Weber didn't play quite as well as he did the last couple of games, but still pretty well, and Myers looks like he is back in form -- very confident again. I thought Butler looked pretty decent too.
5. Ennis seems to have found his mojo again. I kinda like the Hecht-Ennis-Kaleta line.
6. Gerbe did zero with his opportunity on the top line. He had at least 2 opportunities to blast a one-timer from the slot and whiffed or shot wide on both of them. He is not an NHL player if he can't create offense.
Damn dude. You took the thoughts right outta my head. STAY OUT OF MY HEAD !!!!!
The biggest concern I have is the no goals in reg against Ottawa. It's freaking Ottawa. They suck and their goalie sucks. And we couldn't put one by him until the skills contest at the very end. They'll need to do better with Boston and San Jose especially.

Jack I admire your optimism but this team has all the look of the last 2 teams that missed the playoffs. They've looked that way since the Olympics last year.
-
Who is gone next year - Connolly, Stafford, Rivet...at least the team will look different next year. I hope Miller puts an ultimatum on this organization because this he is not sticking around after his contract.
He has ALOT of contract left.

There's an interesting documentary on the Woodstock music festival on the History Channel, if anyone is interested. I remember some of it.
If you remember it you weren't there. :P

But what about the Rangers? They spend too much money. The acquire free agents. They change coaches. What about the Rangers. The Rangers. The Rangers.
Sorry, just though I would save some posters time by responding for them.
You forgot chemistry. ZOMG!! THE CHEMISTRY !! you can't change all those players cuz they have chemistry !

I still think this is one of those games the we will win because Miller will frustrate Montreal until we score.
LOL
Less than 1 minute before they get their 2nd. I'm thinking Montreal is not nearly as frustrated as you hope they are. :D
-
Darcy? How about all the posters that laughed when the Habs turned over their roster?
Yep. And laughed about choosing Price too.
-
Last season there were alot of games where Buffalo looked outworked but I don't recall games where they looked outclassed (until the playoffs anyway). So far, the Sabres look like they belong in a league below the one Montreal is in.
-
Damn, Montreal took us to school that period.
-
If we play at a .650 clip for the remainder of the season, we'll have 100 points (assuming 3 or 4 of our losses are in OT) and fight for the division crown, not just the playoffs. Things aren't THAT desperate yet haha.
OK, .600 gets them to 90pts. They'll need 85-90 pts in all likelihood to make the show. Close enough for top of my head.
-
Sadly, runs "6 of 10 or 7 of 10" doesn't even get the team back to .500.
I said that because they need to be playing around .650 for the rest of the season to be in a reasonable spot to battle for the 8th position. And no time like the present to get started on it.
-
I don't think anyone is saying that they've been eliminated. What I and some others have said is that the situation the sabres are in is substantially worse than trailing one team by 4 points.
Don't bother. They're using their heart, you are using your head. You'll never understand where each other is coming from.
-
They need to go on a 6 of 10, 7 of 10 run and sustain it. This is almost must win given the hill they need to climb.
Good goalie, good defence, pretty damn good offensive team too. Gut check time.
Can't wait to watch this one.

Great first period. Adequate 2nd and 3rd's. Miller looked good. Weber showed alot of grit. And bottom line, they beat a team they need to leapfrog if they want 8th place.
-
LOL And then we give up a shorty. Probably doesn't matter at this point but it is so typical of this team.
-
Hard to believe it took until now to get their first shorty.
Stick a fork in Toronto......
-
Weber HAS to stay in the lineup for awhile. He's been a wrecking ball out there.
-
It was amazing to see how this team looks with a little agression added to their game.
I noticed the same last year. They played much better when they played with a chip on their shoulder. WTF can't they play that way regularly? Supposedly they have enough gritty players to do it.
-
Wow. Great period.
For a Sabres fan anyway.
-
bout time this team started off throwing their weight around and playing an emotional game.
Look for McCormick - Orr soon. Not sure that one would end well for the good guys.
-
While those are interesting numbers and certainly show the gap between the Sabres and a true cup contender, they don't disprove my point. I'm not saying Buffalo is a legitimate cup contender, but that they are capable of making playoffs. If you can find me the records of the 7th & 8th place teams for each of those years, they'd be much more relevant and would really shed some light on how much of a chance Buffalo really has to qualify.
You can use Google too you know. I mean, it is *your* point that you are trying to prove. PA made his point with data already. ;)
Here, I'll help. But I'm not going back 10 seasons cuz it's a pain in the ass. How about since the lockout?
2005-6 8th place Tampa Bay on Dec 1 were 14-10-3
2006-7 Islanders 12-9-3
2007-8 Boston 13-9-2
2008-9 Canadiens 13-6-2
2009-10 Montreal/Philly 12-13-2 / 13-10-1
Buffalo Sabres current record: 8-12-3
You're welcome.
They have a very large hill to climb. Is it possible? yes. Is it likely? no.

That's how a playoff team finishes things.
