I mean the reasons why are obvious, but I thought Lindy came across as kinda old.
Not as quick, not so much a force of nature.

No way did he do formal interviews of double digit guys in 6 days. How long were the interviews? Any follow up? He admitted he spent time on numerous calls with Lindy. If Lindy took multiple calls then why wouldn't some of the other candidates? If just 4 of the double digit choices are compelling choices then you are going into the next week.
Here is a scenario:
KA: "Hello Mr Gallant, this is Kevyn Adams GM for the Buffalo Sabres, your not interested in coaching the Sabres, are you?"
KA: "Oh, MAYBE?" "Thanks, I am just checking on it. Good Bye for now"
Hangs up, calls Terry.
"Hey Terry, I just talked to Gallant and he said maybe."
Terry: "Maybe? What else did he say? Nothing? Will if he doesn't want it move on, I heard he is a pain anyway." click
Ok, I jest. But I do not consider Adams to be credible anymore. Not until there is more follow through on roster improvements.
We don’t know the timeframe for the interviews. He could have started the interviews in the aftermath of the “Fire Granato” chants but chose to not make a change until after the season.

Hasn't Ovechkin played in that same spot his entire career, and nobody has every been able to stop it? I'm fine with the Tage one-timer threat from the left wall, but the other guys can move around more and create some activity. I'm in agreement that more activity in the "Hyman-area" is always a good thing.
I’ve been sitting on this type of post, mostly due to laziness. Damn you for springing me to life.
Ovie had his office, but what was the difference? Sure, he’s HOF talent, maybe that’s the difference but I don’t think so. I am assuming Washington geared their PP to hide Ovie’s trips to his office, create diversions, and use players freed up when Ovie was being hunted. Would love an outside perspective/analysis cuz their shot from that spot is amazingly similar. It shouldn’t be so easy to neutralize that weapon.

Either Keven Adams hired a new social media influencer or you are really passionate about Lindy Ruff. 😂
It’s Lindy’s mom’s account.

If this doesn’t get at least a drive by post…..
We might’ve lost him for good.

Welp, now we know why Matt Ellis was retained. Lindy loved him some Matt Ellis.

The biggest reason why we might see change in the PP units (giggle) is because the 2nd wave is finally reaching a point where they might hold their own.
For all the ***** we are giving Tage, Tuch and Skinner in here, they were the only grown ass men on the team that were as likely as not to win a puck battle. JJP came of age this season and could be added, but who else? This is what we had.
Next season Cozens will have another offseason to improve. Quinn should get to where JJP got. Hopefully Power does as well. Honestly, I’m not expecting Benson to be there yet. But if Cozens, Quinn, Power all take steps we should start to have options.
And the obligatory, KA DO SOMETHING!!! Get an experienced weapon in here.

Now that Ruff is hired you're denying fans wanted him? Nice.
Are you reading what you want to read in this thread? It’s gotta be 70/30 wanted someone else in here.

Well, with a week going by since DG's termination, I'm inclined to think that KA's first choice isn't one of the guys who is currently available (i.e. Lindy, Gallant, Berube) -- although it's certainly possible that KA called one or more of them and got turned down.
Still, it seems more likely that his first choice is someone who is currently coaching in the playoffs, and he needs to wait for that guy's team to get bounced.
It would sure be nice if someone in WNY sports media had some info for us.
Good call, Nostradamus. 😂

This is offensive. Lets judge a guy based on a high pressure interview.
That might just be how he is when he’s nervous.
-
Welp. Let’s see how it rolls…..
KA has a career riding on this. If Lindy fails I don’t see KA working as a GM in the NHL again.

This feels like an incredibly short-sighted, “claw your way into the playoffs; worry about the rest later” hire.
I could cry. Cry from happiness.
Sabres are back.
To me it feels like a PR hire, not a hockey hire.

I agree with your first paragraph. Less so the second.
The Sabres are in the midst of a familiar narrative. Granato is perceived as having been soft on the players and the response is we need a coach who is more demanding. Hopefully that coach is successful for a period, but there is a better than even chance that 2-4 years from now we are looking for a coach who, as you say, treats the players like adults. Both styles can be successful.
I tend to agree with Granato’s comments in the article. When a coach is fired a narrative forms. The players in their exit interviews, for the most part, stuck with the narrative.
With nearly a week of distance between the firing and today, I am more certain than ever that the main culprit for last year’s team falling short is Adams (with a maybe to Pegula, as we may never know if there were spending limits). Yes the power play was bad and the slow starts were killers. These and other things got Granato fired. I’m ok with that. More accomplished coaches have been fired for less. But the Sabres as a playoff contender were a seriously flawed team. Those flaws were going to manifest themselves in some fashion. At best this roster was good for WC2 and a likely 1st rd exit. While that would be better than missing the playoffs, I can’t in good conscience say that I think Granato accomplished less, particularly when you consider last year as well, than Sullivan or Tortorella or Lalonde.
I’m fine with the coaching change. I’ve said for several weeks now that the first and most significant thing that Adams could do to signal a change in expectation would be to replace Granato with one of a 1/2 dozen available coaches with a history of consistently winning 45+ NHL games a season. But make no mistake that we did not have a playoff roster. We were a team that needed everything to fall right to be seriously in the mix. Last year it did, this year it didn’t. If Adams doesn't address the roster there is little reason to be confident we will be significantly better next year, regardless of who the coach is.
On the day Granato’s firing was announced, I went against the grain at the time and called this year’s failure as KA’s failure. Complicit was the term I used.
KA absolutely failed to recognize and address the glaring weakness in roster and leadership. As you state here, this is maybe a borderline playoff roster, even with the right coach.
Nevertheless, Donnie had hit his ceiling and it was time to move on.
I suspect he’ll be a good head coach in the future if he gets the chance to serve as an assistant under a successful coach. Naive seems an apt description, and one that is readily shed with exposure.

It is somewhat bizarre. I’m thinking Byram might be traded this summer. Either in an offensive LHD for defensively responsible RHD top-4 swap, or for a center with the skill set presently lacking on this team.
If the Byram trade was a move to get a player with more remaining contract and similar value to facilitate a future trade to fill a need, I’d be somewhat impressed.
