I'm at work and was able to check the game just now. Shots are 32-7? That seems silly

Seeing the shot total wasn't a shock to me, I have been watching the Ice Dogs in the OHL give up 50-60 shots a game and thought maybe I switched on one of their games. I was shocked that the score was 3-2 at the time and could only think how bad the Flames have to be to allow 2 goals on less than a half dozen shots?

If UPL is sub-par again tonight, and Comrie’s return is not imminent, I wouldn’t be opposed to giving Subban or Houser a shot.

This goalie situation has really been bungled by KA since he took over. 😡

Has UPL really been that much worse then Comrie?

Comrie was expected to come in and be the #1 this year, UPL was expected to play mostly in Rochester, Save percentage for both is still sub .900

Gary Bettman: Hey, lets have Buffalo play back to back nights with travel and then give them 2 days off... also let's make the 2nd game during Thursday night football, make it at home to.

Schedule Maker: I think the Bills play that Thursday against the rival Patriots.

Bettman: Yes I know the Bills play but like, hockey and stuff. Just do it, it makes sense!

Bettman: Yes I know the Bills play, put them against a much better team thats likely to win, this way fans in Buffalo will be distracted and won't care if the Sabres win or lose and it will give them an excuse for low attendance at the game

  4. If anything, the whole quote makes it sound like Losing is OK/Accepted because they played good hockey and are young and building something, so as long as they take something or learn something from the loses its OK

And they have been rebuilding and collecting picks for over a decade now, just because a new Coach/GM steps in, it doesn't erase their entire past or whats been going on with the franchise.

There has been plenty of picks and talent come and go through this organization during that time that they shouldn't still be at risk of getting another top 5-10 pick

But every year, and every regime change is the same, dupe the fans into believing theres something special coming, some magical dynasty that will continue to thrive and win once a couple of those coveted picks/prospects turn into NHL superstars. Then every year they just aren't ready to take that next step, and just need another year of development before they can make the jump to Cup favorites, you don't want to just make the playoffs, that won't help the team/franchise, if they are going to make it into the playoffs they better be able to make it all the way so its better to just not make it and get another high pick for the pipeline......

    And the plot thickens.....

I don't know, it's not like he is struggling for a roster spot ND needs them to put in a good word for him.

Also unless he has the ability to pick and chose where he goes, it won't matter if he has ties to the owners kids. Maybe it helps in FA to get a meeting, or gets TP to convince KA to atleast look into what it might take

  6. Highly doubtful they make any impact moves from outside. Maybe they pick up a veteran salary dump for a pick/prospect, but it's more likely they continue to scour the waiver wire and just give the younger guys more time and bigger roles to play out the year. There isn't going to be any push for a playoff spot or attempt to speed things up, they ha e given Adam's the go ahead to take the slow rebuild from within. This year is another development year.....

Literally zero chance they can sell another development year next year to the fans

You are suggesting the intention for this season was a high pick?

Nah, its easy, win a few games when everythings wrapped up at the end of the year

Then you talk about momentum carrying over to next seasons and some plus side from the youth

Get a high pick in the draft and talk up the development of some players and Buffalo fans will be counting down the time til next season starts and they can do it over again.....

FWIW, I think there is merit to this.

There seems to be this belief that they need to build a long lasting dynasty, that they need to build a team that will somehow just grow together and form a core that will dominate together for however long they play in the league. What they need to do is just put together a competitive team with a goal of making the playoffs, then add and build from that.

  9. When was the last time a team was successful using the 'slow build' process they keep trying here?

A Build where a team just kept collecting prospects to develop in the minors until they are all ready to come up and just become competitive?

Pittsburgh & Chicago were a long time ago and I believe they had a couple years in a row of high picks that came in right away and were surrounded with Vets brought in to compete.

In todays NHL, with the Cap, you don't have the time to spend seasons developing and slowly developing a team.

I have never understood this idea of not wanting to bring in good players so young players wont be blocked either. Whats the big deal if a young player has to spend a little bit of extra time in the minors? Has there ever been a player who was ruined because they were kept down in the minors too long? Its never a problem having too many good players of any age. It gives you options and assetts to deal to address other needs. If they had brought in a better goalie this offseason, whats the worst that happens? He does well and one of the prospects develops and becomes ready to play in the next season or 2? Now you have a player to trade when you decide which one is best for the team. Instead they keep trying to find someone who has some potential, but not enough that they would block one of the prospects when they are ready. Would leaving UPL in the AHL for an extra season or 2 really kill his development?

I just don’t understand how we can cycle through hundreds of players, coaches, and the like and yet the team always falls right back into the exact same groove. And don’t tell me ownership is to blame because I highly doubt Pegula is somehow magically popping every balloon anytime we seem to start going somewhere.

Because its always the same even though the names change

Hire a cheap Coach/GM with little to no experience in the position and let them play the slow development game to build a 'Dynasty'......

The last coach with a nhl head coaching resume was Bylsma, and he built his off a team that was carried on the backs of Crosby, Malkin and a bunch of other big stars.

How the hell is Vancouver favored in this game?

Sabres were +1.5 a t one point yesterday before the game.

I had to do a few double takes before placing some money down because I couldn't believe they were favoring a winless team so much against a team thats playing so well. The only reason i can think of now was that they saw Ryan ,Miller was in the area and assumed he would be playing for Vancouver last night?

  12. I think Comrie gets the #1 job easily, but I think he is a really big question mark if he really is a #1 goalie in the league and one that will help the Sabres.

He doesn't have much experience or track record in the league and has one season where he played double digit games.

Its more likely he plays but doesn't look great/special and ends up as another 'filler piece' goalie until UPL/Portillo/Levi/another draft choice goalie steps up
