Isn't Marner to Vegas basically a done deal? The only reason he would have a conversation with The Sabres is so that he can leverage them to sign elsewhere
hopefully there will be some crazy spending tomorrow on a weak UFA crop and some teams will get themselves in a position where it's difficult to sign their RFA's. That's where Buffalo needs to come in with an offer sheet
More likely the Sabres are the ones doing some crazy spending of FAs to compensate of the lack of playoffs and sign a bunch of mediocre players to big deals so their PR team can go into overdrive trying to convince everyone they struck Gold. KA would probably stay away from signing RFAs because it would cost them precious picks and would risk someone potentially doing it to one of his precious prospects....

Condescending much?
I can man-splain too. A good part of a GMs job is to be a recruiter. If KA isn’t actively recruiting the best upgrades to this roster because you all think the idea of Marner landing here is delusional, KA deserves to be on the same sidelines you are sitting on.
If KA has to be a recruiter, then I can see why people have a defeatist attitude.
" Well we can offer you a fair contract that will allow you to play hockey in Buffalo. But I have to tell you we might not be an attractive place to play since there's no palm trees". I just picture him as Eyesore from Winnie the Pooh sitting their talking to potential FAs

It's year 6, Kevyn ain't got no plan.
Not true
He has a plan, it's to let the kids develop into superstars which will make them a cup dynasty for the next decade. It's why they won't sign anyone to a deal that would potentially make them better and block one of the precious prospects....

I don't think there's much out there on the FA market, and chances are Edmonton goes hard after the top available.
I still think Levi spending another year in Rochester is a good thing, and UPL is still young for a goalie who misses a lot of time from early injuries. He could still develop into something but he probably needs a good backup who can help carry some of the work load if he has some bad games.

I just hope KA isn’t as defeatist as alot of you all.
Hell yea he should chase Marner! Do I expect it to be successful? Not really. But if he isn’t out there putting a full effort into recruiting a Mitch Marner, well add it to the other reasons he should be fired.
I agree, he should be going after all the top FAs available, it's not like this roster is good enough anywhere that adding a player of his caliber is going to make them worse.
I don't see him signing here though if it's between Buffalo and some Cup contending teams, but people seem to be forgetting that he is also from the Toronto area so playing in Buffalo is still close to home for him without the pressure of playing in Toronto.

Yes exactly, Kesselring and Doan are the type of players we can use and no issues getting them but giving up Peterka for them was a problem. We needed to give up some of that prospect cupboard to actually get better. The Savoie trade was the right idea but Adams hasn't been able to do more of them. Likely overvalues his picks and their ceilings.
Maybe Adams is out smarting us all and he made the deal with JJP to set the market so he could get something really good for Byram?

That only works to a point. If you have 8 teams interested, and they really want a player, one will up the offer. Then you have a bidding war. And like you said, the Sabres can just keep Byram for now, so lowball all you want if you're just playing games.
Any evidence or just wishful thinking?
But that's where Adams is playing 5D scrabble, he will let others up there offers with better deals, then take one of the lower unexpected offers cause it fills a need he created even though the value isn't the same.
He isn't going to lose his streak of losing every trade he makes.......

Well the bottom line is we are now slightly better on D and substantially weaker at wing. If they trade Byram we are no longer better on D but maybe the D is slightly different. If we trade Byram for a winger said winger puts up 25-30 goals we are exactly the same with more shuffled deck chairs and an internal cap.
I said it earlier somewhere else, Adams and this franchise would trade their cars tires to get gas money
I don't think there are fans upset with Kesselrig & Doan, most just feel they should have gotten more for what they gave up, which also seems like a common thing for this franchise in taking less for their top assets. They point to making deals is to maximize your assets, and get the most you can for what you have. JJP was gone, he wanted out, he had a lot of value that should have been maximized and other assets could have been used for filling holes. Reports had the Sabres having 8-10 offers for JJP, one including 2 1sts & a roster player, another included Dobson from the Isles, the Wild offered Rossi +.......

I don’t understand why people think Marner is even in the mix. Why the hell would he want to come to the Sabres?
It's close to Toronto where he is from?
He gets to play Toronto a bunch of times and can stick it to them if he plays good in those games?
In the last 20 years the Sabres have about the same amount of playoff series wins as Toronto?
That's about all I got

He's not going anywhere
That being said, no one (not even Tage or Rasmus) should be immune to being moved down the roster if theres better options out there.
This offseason should be all about getting players that can move Norris down the roster on paper and hope he plays himself into a position where the team has to many talented options at every position. Every year this franchise seems to not want to rock the boat or block prospects and current players from moving up and just try to get lowere players to fill and improve the bottom of the roster.

So many fans get to root for teams that are in the playoffs every year or almost every year, competing for cups. They have enjoyable hockey seasons. Then there's us. There's a generation of Sabres fans that have no idea what it's like to watch the Stanley Cup Playoffs with a rooting interest. How you live and die with every game. Though I question how big that group of fans is. How many 10-25 year olds really give a ***** about the Sabres. They've been dog ***** for as long as they can remember.
I remember being excited about Sabres hockey in March, April, May, even June a couple of times. Now the season ends in November every ***** year. I'm tired of this *****.
Go back 15 years on here and you will find a lot of fans here complaining about Ruff and teh sabres needing change because they were sick of just making the playoffs and they needed a change to get further. Then theres the tank years where fans begged them to lose to get the generational franchise players that would turn everything around and that it was better to lose out if you weren't a cup favorite to get the better pick (getting to the playoffs wasn't worth it if they weren't going to make a long run). And we are now at the point were just being in the playoff hunt until the last day of the season would be a huge step forward.....

Kind of surprised they didn't

#1 star of the game has to go to Hertl now
its a way for the Sabres to troll the Knights now.............

Vegas trying to troll Buffalo this game
Trying to give Eichel the empty net winner, then Olofson and Eichel the 1st 2 shooters in the shootout

Nice job Hertl
"I can put the game away by just tapping the puck into the empty net..........OR
I can stick it to the fans in their building by trying to get the puck passed a defender to Eichel so he can score the goal against his former team booing him"
Congrats on wanting to be a better 'team player' Hertl!

He's gotta pay for those stadium over runs. It's why Ruffs here and why the assistants are back. We're a fake franchise run by an idiot who has a yes man goober for gm. This board could run the team better, which is sad.
Ruff is back for the same reason as Nolan was brought back.
Feel Good nastalgia for the ticket buying fans to buy them more time. Bring back a guy who fans loved and was one of teh most successful at his job during his time here to give the fans hope that maybe things will change while they try and figure out how to fix things.
Making Ruff bring back the assisstants was to save money and only sets him up for failure. Making no big moves to try and improve the team in the offseason also only sets him up for Failure.
Might as well start another rebuild because this isn't going to be a 'Quick fix' offseason where they can make a few moves or sign a few players and they are in the playoffs. This isn't a FA destination anymore and the pipeline/prospects aren't as good that bringing them up is going to change this team for the better

The ability to lose no matter who the coach is or how many times they rebuild with new players.
Almost impossible to be this bad for this long but they have figured out a way to do it
To be fair, its not like their coaching hires have gone on to light up the league or do any better anywhere else in the league.......
So maybe the strength is their ability to find the worst coaching and front office personel? And their weakness is then hiring those guys.....

On a non-game related note but with response to what you are saying...
For me this year has been the WORST year ordering stuff online and getting it delivered. Orders lost in transit. Deliveries days later than scheduled. Orders placed at night before bed, but next morning I get the email that it was canceled. All that has happened to me in the past 3 weeks. Orders scheduled to be shipped on one date, only to be delayed almost a full week.
For me 'online shopping' this holiday season has been worse than even through the pandemic years.
During the Pandemic Years, the price of building materials went through the roof around here and of course earlier in the year I planned on building an addition to my deck which i went ahead with that summer. I would place an online order for Lumber and deck boards one night only to get an email the next morning canceling my order.
This year is definetly worse in Canada, Our Postal Workers went on strike in mid/late November and were just forced to go back to work this week where they said the backlog of mail could take into the middle of January to clear up....
I did learn a lesson with one store here in Canada (Canadian Tire), if they tell you at the customer service desk, or you see online it says they have 1 available, it actually means they have none available.........

You are correct and in all honesty as a manager of a large team of people I know what you say to be true. So if I am honest I bag skate them cause it would make me feel better cause I am pissed. So there... there is the truth lol as bad as it sounds for me I would relish making them puke...
Can't disagree with you there because I would one up that and have the team walk behind the bus for the entire trip home. Would it help them get out of the slup? Probably not, but I would feel good about watching it!
Better yet, If I was Lindy, before letting any of the players leave the bench after this game, I throw all the equipment, and have the equipment staff take all their stuff out of the dresing rooms and either throw it on the ice or in the parking lot and teel them they don't deserve a lockerroom to get changed in.... Being forced to get changed on the ice or in the streets would be less embarrassing then their play....

I mean just add this to the list of Kevin’s miscalculations. You can’t expect an entire team to grow up in the league. It’s a grown up league, not a developmental one. Half these guys should be maturing in the AHL.
I think this is the problem with this franchises 'rebuild plan' over the last 13+ years. They believe the only way to build the team is through drafting and developing prospects who will all some day just click and become an NHL Dynasty that will win together for years. They seem to hate the idea of bringing in good/great players (whether it be through FA or trade) because it might mean blocking a young prospect who may need to spend some extra time in the minors and really earn their spot on the team. Or also realising that Good/Great players and prospects can also be used as trade chips to obtain other good/great players or prospects at other positions of need. Instead they force prospects up to early hurting their development, and bring in only washed up Vets or guys looking for a one year deal to rebuild their image so they can move on after. This franchise needs to stop looking long term, and look to rebuild short term to rebuild its image and get back to being atleast a playoff team that can work on becoming a Cup contender. Fans were spoiled in the Dary/ruff era that they seemed to get to the point where they thought regularly winning and being in the playoffs isn't a good thing and that it was necessary to throw everything away and start from scratch to get a Cup team

Summer 2025: NHL Offseason
in The Aud Club
Posted
It isn't really unique, the Bills before Pegula had many saying they couldn't compete financially and until Josh they couldn't compete on the field.
The Sabres used to be able to attract and sign good players, but the sabotaged themselves tanking to be horrible and win the McDavid sweepstakes.
Its more about having ownership and management willing to do what it takes to compete and find great players. Vegas isn't great just because of their location, they are how they are because they were given a solid base to start from and are willing to bend the rules and spend to do what it takes to win. The Sabres do not have that, they won't work the rules to their advantage and do what it takes to get better. They would rather hope that they have hit on all their prospects and will just one day put it all together and be great
