  1. They made the move to get a better capable backup who would allow price to have more nights off and keep him healthier for the playoffs instead of going the leafs route and wearing their starter down by the last few games of the season and having nothing left for the playoffs As for the blues, they have a young prospect they want to bring up and are desperate for cap space to keep Pieterangelo around. This moves helps that a bit
  2. This is true in some cases, but what players have the Sabres disinvested in that moved elsewhere and became more successful? Recently Lehner comes to mind but that was more of his own personal demons then anything else O'Reilly might be another, but he wasn't bad here
  3. The timeline is NOW, and always is and should be now. This idea of teams wasting seasons so that a bunch of youngsters can grow together and gel and be some sort of dynasty team just doesn't happen anymore in the FA era. The successful teams have young talent but also older veterans to help them along and try to win while the youth still develops.
  4. He doesn't really fill a need for them unless the move is done to allow them to flip Reinhart to fill a need. As for worrying about getting massacred in the playoffs because they would get out muscled, baby steps. Lets just get into the playoffs first, then worry about what they need to go further........ But none of this really matters because hall said he isn't going to be looking for money this offseason, he wants to go to a winner and that isn't going to be here.
  5. But Holtby has had better career stats then both and has cup experience. Im not so down on him after one bad year.
  6. I always thought Fleury was overrated on the pens but he was good for Vegas, I wouldn't be against him being here for a couple seasons He seems to be a funny guy too so he could fit in with some of the other players around here, plus he could get much better if he gets to work at the Tre White Goalie Academy.....
  7. It would be pretty cool to see Fleury start for another expansion team.
  8. Yeah, but now he said something that could affend some people which is more important then a hockey analyst knowing hockey......
  9. He got 2 years where they were in the playoffs, and people here argue over keeping guys longer as they fight for the #1 overall pick.... Probably wasnt a good idea to let Trotz leave (I wonder if he wanted out also) But now you have an aging team thats going to have to atleast start retooling to stay good, Sounds like Holtby will be available, might not be a bad choice to replace Hutton til UPL is ready
  10. So you are approaching retirement?
  11. What could be going on? For some reason there hasn't been any sports on the TV that should give you even more free time to know this!
  12. True, if they blow one more lead But I think the NHL is tired of giving them 1st and them blowing it, Pittsburgh has Crosby and Malkin getting up there in age and need a new superstar to take over a youth movement.
  13. I know, it was discussed and explained when the first draft lottery happened So basically, on Monday they will be announcing that the Penguins have won the lottery, again......
  14. My wife had the Leafs game on last night for a bit and honestly, watching the broadcast I didn't even notice that there were no fans there until they showed the seats. Otherwise the games on tv sound the same as they normally do. I saw an overhead photo posted on the anniversary of the no-goal clearing showing him in the crease, but otherwise it's usually not shown unless they are specifically speaking about it.
  15. Same here, can't do it
  16. I heard that too that the opening wasn't in the NHL, but I also heard them say that it wasn't another GM position
  17. Maybe he can join Don Cherry and they can start their own broadcast network......
  18. i thought they only brought in ex-Carolina guys for the Bills? The Sabres were ex-Pens....... Sounds like Dudley was let go in Carolina as they didn't renew his contract. Would be nice to have some experience to help the new GM (with Carolina ties, but did they have a connection together in Carolina?) I don't know if the Sabres would be looking to do this unless he is willing to take a lesser role, and its something the GM has specifically asked for (which doesn't look good for him that he wants someone to help him be GM)
  19. As for Hamilton, looks like he already has a new job on TV working for Channel 2 (WGRZ) reporting on the Sabres on weekends. Looks like a promotion after getting canned.....
  20. That disclaimer is required as just mentioning a certain name can get your post removed as it being political..... I don't think anyone can really 'flip' a pro sports franchise, but relocation is always a possibility
  21. There was an earlier rumor I saw that had the Sabres wanting the Sharks goalie , but they wanted the Sharks to retain salary so the Sharks wanted Risto. Looking at that deal, Do the Sharks like 1st rounders?
  22. I think the league favours Pittsburgh more. Crosby is getting older and they are going to need to restore the Pens talent pool.... The Leafs still have some time with their players before they get old
  23. How does any GM/Team convince players to tank? There are teams and players not in favour of playing. Just tell the players that the sooner they are out, the sooner they get to go back home to their families. Teams tanking now in this 'play in' playoffs are just as likely to tank as any organization would be during the regular season......
  24. Hard to say, with a new GM that has no track record to go off of, we don't have an idea what he's gonna do. We knew with TM he would fall in love with players and pay whatever it took to get them. With JB, we knew that he wanted a Sweede so it would depend if there were Sweedes available or if there were a bunch of CHLers that other teams would want so he could move down. We also knew that he would need alot of time to way all options before he would get fleeced making a move....
  25. I really think it should have been a lottery of the teams that didn't make the playoffs only. If your in the play in round but not in a position that you would have been in the regular playoffs, you were already given a bonus of being able to get lucky and be in the playoffs with a chance at the cup. With the season being messed up, there's a good chance that one of the lower rated teams could pull off some upsets with the extra rest from the time off and potentially being in better shape to beat a better team that may be rustier? Also this gives incentive for a team that's not going to move on to tank the play in round and get a 1:8 chance to get a great young player. Its not like the revenue is going to be great for teams that aren't a host city, and if you are a host city it won't matter if your still playing or not, your going to make some money for hosting.
