  1. Kassian 5 - Hodgson 3 in goals......interestingly, neither has an assist....

As a Center, you would hope to see more assist (any) from Hodgson, especially while being teamed with Vanek and Pommers. Hodgson is also averaging almost 4 minutes more of ice time a game 19:44 to 15:57. Kassian has also recorded 19 hits so far. It is too early to say who will turn out to be a better player in the long run.

I was never crazy about getting rid of Kassian, but we needed a center and I had hopes for Hodgson, although right now I do not see Hodgson as a first line center, hopefully that will change (soon), but this regimes record for developing players is not the greatest.

  2. Kass third star tonight. No points or fights. Not sure about hits...

Yahoo stats credited him with 4 hits, WGR this morning said he had 5. The fans voted him the games #1 star on their Mike's Hard Lemonade fan voting page. I hope Kassian does good and has a great career (he'll do better void Lindy), but I'm very happy with what Hodgson has showed so far.

  3.

It's funny reading the Vancouver board. They are a lot like here....they have Kassian on the Sedin line after tonight.

The one thing I noticed is that many of them are willing to be patient with him. He had a nice scoring opportunity last night after stealing the puck, he led a nice give and go, but failed to get the puck up over the Goalie. I think he'll do better out in Vancouver than he would of done here under Lindy. Anyway I wish him luck.

  4. is this the right thread for the news (on hamilton's and vogl's twitter) that the thinking is to have hodgson center ennis and stafford.?

looks like lindy wants the new guy to skate with someone he knows well (that'd be 63).

(i am in favor of putting ennis back on the wing.)

Why would you want to remove a player that has shown he can play the Center position and has played it well on a team that has a weakness at Center ? We picked up a Center in Hodgson, but also lost one in Goose. Finding out that Ennis can play the position, and well, (3 goals, 4 primary assist in last 10 games) helped with our problem, removing him makes no sense to me. I'm not thrilled with the idea of seeing Leino or Boyes moved back to the Center spot. Maybe Sulzar can play Center ?

  5. This is the line up I would like to see for the top 3 lines.

    Vanek - Ennis - Pominville

    Leino - Hodgson - Stafford

    Gerbe - Roy - Kaleta

    1) Ennis is turning into a very good play making Center who see's the ice good and is one of the better passers on the team, seeing him feed Vanek and Pommers could be really nice.

    2) Hodgson seems to have a great shot and Leino's strength has appeared to be setting up plays from behind the net and the along the boards, having a sniper to get it to could increase Leino's production.

    3) Roy without a doubt is the best Defensive Center on the team, putting him on the shutdown line replacing Goose should be an easy decision.

I think these combos would utilize each of our Centers strengths.

Hold the phone, on WGR moments ago, Lindy talked about moving Ennis back to the wing. This would be so stupid, Center is our weakest position and while we gained a Center in Hodgson , we also lost one with Goose leaving, so the Lindy thing to do is take away another Center by moving Ennis back to the wing. The idiocy of our Head Coach will never cease to amaze me.

  6. I'm 27, I'm sure Morris Titanic may have been over-rated but my hyperbole was intended to generate the point that I'm trying to make that Kassian isn't what people think he is. Kassian was in Rochester when Lucic/Miller happened, he was not the last 2 times we played though, he didn't get involved in anything then. The point is, he's not this physical behemoth that people think he is. He doesn't play like that. He's a big guy, that's where it ends.

It did occur to me that it was exaggeration on purpose and I should of stated it in some way, as I said I wasn't trying to insult you in any way. I agree with you that Kassian didn't come close to the expectations of Sabres fans, but I also believe that coaching was a big cause of that and I think we'll see a different player with the Canucks. I also hope that Hodgson's development isn't hampered by what I consider to be inferior coaching. JMO

  7. I hate to get all TSC, but Kassian looked confused to me as he went along, as if he were getting mixed messages. He was sent back down to work on his game, and he was brought up to be physical.

Forgive my ignorance, what is TSC ?

Kassian is the most over-rated player in what has to be Sabres history.

So you send him off to Vancouver where they said, "he's going to be the answer against Lucic," clearly they watched any Buffalo, Boston games because it was totally Kassian that kept Lucic at bay. Remember when Kassian stepped up and fought Lucic? Yeah, me either, cuz it never happened. Vancouver got fleeced on this deal. They bought into what 95% of you bought into and never actually saw. I'm starting to think Darcy is an evil genius.

The first line has me thinking you are either very young or not in tune to Sabres history (not an insult). As for the 2nd bolded line, I'm pretty sure Kassian was in Rochester when the Lucic/ Miller incident happened.

  8. I think the canucks will let him be himself more than Buffalo did. He won't be asked to play nice but play his game while in control and not hurting the team.

Buffalo pussied him after his court date. I'm sure it will be made clear to him that he will be counted on to stand up for his mates in vancouver.

In Buffalo he didn't even dress for the sabs/ b's rematch. That told me something on the sabres' front.

I agree, I think it'll all depend on what role they want him to play, I think the Sabres were looking to turn him into more of a goal scorer than a disrupting force that could add points, of course this is all conjecture , because I really don't know what Lindy thinks, or if he thinks.

  9. So seriously, which of the Sabres' lines does this kid center? He wasn't getting the playing time or opportunities, they say, in Vancouver because he was stuck on the checking line, so does Darcy think Lindy's going to give him a chance at the #2 center role???? The ONLY way that is true is if Lindy thinks that his new "son", derek Roy, is his next checking line center, because no way it's going to be little Ennis.

Roy, aside from his top-line salary, would make the smartest choice to center that shut-down 3rd line, IMO. Anyone else disagree besides korab? :P

I brought this up previously, I don't see Lindy taking Roy away from Vanek and Pommers, especially since he's being "productive" and I don't want to see Ennis dropped down or moved back to the wing. I would feel a lot better about this trade if Roy was the one to go and Lindy.

  10. Even if he might think it is hockey hell I doubt he would be upset about moving closer to home.

True, but just like the majority of the post in this tread they're based on first reactions (I know my 1st post was) and I doubt that being closer to home even crossed his mind until time passed. Believe me I want this to turn out great just as much as anyone, but I believe until further changes are made to this team we'll never see the full potential of Hodgson or get a sniff of the Stanley Cup.

  11. I think Hodgson will be given his shot with Vanek almost immediately. There is no question what the goal is with this move. He was brought in to be an eventual number one center. He will be given that shot.

I hope you're right, but I have no confidence in Lindy doing the right thing.

  12. I can't say anything bad about Hodgson, don't know enough about him, what I don't like is this team getting rid of any toughness which it seriously lacks. The one reason I'm not thrilled with this trade (yet) is Lindy Ruff, I have no confidence that Lindy can develop this kid. Is Lindy going to put Hodgson between Vanek and Pommers and remove Roy ? I doubt it, the best case I see happening for Hodgson (with Lindy here) is Centering the 2nd line, which will in turn bump Ennis down to the 3rd line which will stifle him. With Lindy Ruff and Derek Roy remaining on this team, I have a hard time getting excited about any future that involves winning the Stanley Cup. Maybe next year we'll at least make the playoffs.

  13. If Stafford could find the motivation and the drive, he could be a very productive player, he has the size and the skill set, but just not the desire. If I had to choose between getting rid of Stafford or Roy, it would be Roy that I would dump, I believe that Roy is much more of a cancer to this team than Stafford. Maybe if they give Stafford only 1 year contracts, that way he would always be in a contract year, or maybe if they can get a coach to motivate him, instead of Lindy, who couldn't motivate a mouse to eat a piece of cheese.

  14. This is my second one. Never got picked for the first one. I acted all crazy and ######, they didn't pick me.

Tell, them you're so sure the Sabres are going to win the Stanley Cup this year, that you bet $2,000 on it, they'll know your crazy.

  15. You've been pushing this for a while now. Gerbe is stronger on the puck than Ennis, especially along the boards. I'm sure you can give me all the stats in the world to show me why Gerbe shouldn't be out there, but I'll just give you one, Since Gerbe was put on the first line, the Sabres have earned 7 of 8 points.

Don't change it 'til it's broke.

I'm going to keep pushing it, there's no way he deserves to be on that line. I really think that LINDY should give MANCARI a couple of shifts up there, he's insisting that he wants MANCARI to start scoring, what about GERBE. GERBE's taken CONNELLY's place as LINDY's little pet.

  16. I thought it was one of Gerbe's better games. Especially early, he was at least putting the puck on net. Made Niemi make some nice saves. Not a high bar I've set for him, I guess, no pun intended.

I agree he did get some shots off today, really I think only 2 were on net, but I'm just getting tired of seeing him on that line, there's just no way he's a top 6 forward.

  17. Good game by the GAUSTAD line. I don't know about rolling 3 lines late in the 3rd, it looked like they were getting gassed pretty fast. For the life of me, I can not understand why ENNIS would be on the bench while having GERBE on the ice. I thought ENNIS had a good game, he set up a few good scoring chances, I'm getting really ill watching GERBE try to play.

  18. This. Actually 5th game in 8 nights for SJ according to the snooze.

We need it it more, we are at home, they(SJ) are tired, no excuses Bflo lets just go get this game and put it in the W column.

This is what, Buffalo's 3rd game in 10 nights ? They have no excuse not to go out there skating hard.
