  1. Tampa was not trading one of the best (if not the best) player in the league a few weeks removed from the Cup finals. They definitely were not adding pieces such as Hedman, Bishop, Johnson, etc. The owner here has made it well known he wants him signed at whatever cost.

Eichel is going to be great but i think putting him in a category that would require Stamkos + might be setting the bar a little high.

Who are you referring to?  Stamkos?

  2. If you think something deserves its own thread, start a thread.  Things will get sorted out over time and you'll also start to get a better feel for where things are around here.

Good advice.  Are you still in Holly Springs?  Heard it's great up there.  Going to the Carolina game in March?

  3. I feel the same way about TBD, and would just add that the ratio of good posters to zero-value-added posters is way too low.

I can understand what you and WildCard are saying  - I agree and disagree.  I'm somewhat active on TBD and can totally appreciate your sentiment on the amount of threads and the amount of posters that offer little.  I understand long time posters find fewer threads easier to have a rolling conversation but for someone new I find it difficult because there's multiple topics within it and don't know where to jump in.

Obviously my example is the Eichel signing a card deal in the "2nd overall pick" thread.

Please don't take this the wrong way but I just feel the current setup here while probably makes long time/high count posters happy- it makes it a bit more difficult for new posters to get involved.  Am I making any sense?  Just offering some feedback from a newbie trying to be more engaged here and that finds it interesting to see a new topic.

  4.

Eichel's getting paid, as in LeBron getting paid.

espn on Eichel's start of training camp; mostly just expectations of him, quotes of his talent from teammates, and living with Moulson. Some interviews with Ennis and Kane up top too

This should be it's own thread.  Interesting stuff that if I didn't look in the 38 page thread under "2nd overall pick Jack Eichel signed" I would never have seen it.  Unless of course outside of this site.

But my point is there really aren't that many new threads started here - is there a reason?  Just wondering because it just seems like the same ones are in the opening page day after day after day.

  5. Great move for the National Hard-up League.  How about helmets, visors, gloves and skates? Maybe next face tattoos w corporate logos? I do wonder when the home teams will wear white again...

Well they better figure out some kind of creative way to get more money in or figure out a way to get back on prime time TV.

  6. While we all know why it happened and don't expect it to continue...until it changes on the ice, I firmly believe most players would simply prefer to go to a winning destination rather than one that just finished last two years in a row.

I think more than just us know why it happened - NHL players have seen how this works and that it works.  Most every NHL player is aware of Buffalo from ownership to we're headed in another direction on the ice.  I do think you're right in that they would prefer to go to a team further along or in the middle of the prime of being good - however I don't think Buffalo is a last resort destination anymore.

  7. I hope I dont' offend anyone by saying this, but I think calling every case Rape should be revisited.  I understand that most of the states consider those under 18 are incapable of consenting to sex - but it just seems too broad of a law.

If a 17 year old women/girl looks older and maybe in some cases says she's older - I find it difficult to determine how for example a 24-26 year old man could difinitively know wrongdoing.

  8. With so many young kids on the Sabres, I want to see an effective 4th line that can eat up some minutes and if things get chippy be a deterrent to the other team. Danny B doesn't fill that role. Now, if you said he can play RW, I could see him on a different line as that mentor, but the 4th line needs to be grinders and deterrents next year. There are already a few vets on the team (Gionta, Legwand, and to a degree O'Reilly, not to mention Ennis), so I'm not sure how much Briere adds to that mix.

Fair enough.  The only thing that I'd say is I think Briere would add to that mix nicely (obviously IMO).  It looked to me like beyond the overall lack of talent the offense looked disjointed.  Now we have talent but it's all young so it would seem reasonable it will look a bit maybe hectic is the word.  I get that maybe Briere isn't the guy but I'd argue that we need a bit more than Gionta, Moulson, and Legwand to help Bylsma get these extremely talented young players to play correctly.

  9. Reinhart, the #2 overall pick and first forward selected last year will probably be in the mix over the long haul. Look around for roster threads, but Ennis has been playing well on RW, and Larrsson played well in a small set of games. Girgensons may end up on the wing too. So centers long term should shake out as some combination of Eichel, Reinhart, O'Reilly, with some tough SOB on the 4th line that's essentially "interchangable" year to year. If the Sabres have enough good centers that they're playing a talented center on the 4th line, they should be trading one for something else the team needs (right now, RW and maybe D).

I get most of that for sure.  So in the scenario you describe albeit you say "long term" the 4th line guy is a tough guy that eats up some minutes and is difficult to handle physically - doesn't it make sense at all for next year to entertain Breire in that spot?  Obviously not for the physical side but to play a limited role on the ice but it would seem he could teach young kids how to play.

  10. Amen.

Ennis.  And when was the last time Briere was an effective center anyway?

Ok so help me understand - how do you see the Center position initially?  I'll self admit I watch almost every game but I don't always understand what all is happening strategically on the ice.  Are there only 4 centers identified on a team or could there be more but at a reduced role than the first 4?

    Do you see it?

    O'reilly

    Eichel

    Ennis

    Girgensons

  11. We've already got a Briere.

    O'reilly or Reinhart?

I'm not as educated on hockey as most of you are.  I've always followed the team and watched most games - but I think because I didn't play and it wasn't my main viewing sport growing up there's a lot I don't understand, so I'm not being smart here.  I understand it appears the team is crowded on the offensive side and because of that there's a lot of uncertainty on what position guys may be asked to move to etc., but I see a void at Center in terms of leadership on the ice.

I respect your opinion so I'd like to hear more about what you're thoughts are.

  12. Briere is contemplating retirement as he's deciding if he'd rather play or begin a new chapter in his life by dedicating all his time to his family.  Perhaps his decision will be made for him if he's not getting offers to play.  What would you all say about bringing him back as a possible 4th line center?

I'll start with my opinion.  I know we've got some veteran leadership in Moulson and Gionta for example - but really only Legwand at the center position.  I think he'd be a nice addition for one year to teach these young centers (however that's decided).  I also like the idea of the feel good story that would naturally be attached with him coming back.

  13. If Murrays deals for O'Reilly and he gives up a ton I'm gonna be pissed. I'm not thrilled about a player that wants big money for putting up 40-55 points a season.

I would be fine if Buffalo gave Colorado those three for O'Reilly. My concerns is the amount of money he wants. I don't want to pay a player like him that kind of money.

But we'd end up having to pay one of our young players that develops into that type of player when their contract is due.  So I'm not sure whey paying a player that's there now is so far fetched.

  14. "To clarify, we're not even considering the double whammy of being a Sabres fan and a Bills fan." - Well he should because having one owner of them both is something to be considered.

Pegula, Murray, Reinhart,  Harbor-Center, Kane, Eichel, Girgensons, Bylsma, penty of cap space, etc. - if there was any torture it's over in my mind.  IMO, there's not many franchises I'd rather be at the moment.

  15. I'd give this years to have a shot in the lotto, or not, next year.

I guess we won't have to give up a straight first, but I can only imagine what a package deal for Bylsma's rights would be.  If we give the first but get an interesting prospect back, along with the rights, that would excite me most.

I said that wrong.  I would give up this years 21st pick considering the odds are we will have a much lower pick - and as you said a chance in the lottery.
