Quick is an interesting idea.   Kinda the same mole as Levi

it sucks there is no easy way to get UPL back to Rochester   He will be the back up or traded

If traded , they better find another goalie prospect cause the cupboard will be pretty bare

The timing just sucks. Theres team in much worse shape then we are in that would love to have a goalie such UPL and give him opportunities to take control of their net. Like you said, there isn't a easy way to send UPL back to Rochester. Boston dealt with this problem as well after the emergence of Jeremy Swayman, they traded Dan Vladar to Calgary.

    PART IV:  COACHING

I'm sorry, but I really am not convinced about Granato.  There is no doubt that he's a good development coach, but is a development coach what the team needs to take the next step?  He really needs advice on how to manage personnel and tactics in the NHL, especially when the team gets behind in one game or hits a skid in several.  Even things that should be menial to an NHL coach--changing goalies in a blowout, taking a timeout when needed, etc.--seem to escape him.  If he is to remain HC, and I am not calling for his head here, he desperately needs an experienced assistant to whisper advice to him.

Interesting that you wrote down coaching. I'm all in on Donny G, but i am not sold on Marty Wilford. I wish they had a more proven coach with him on the bench. But, the guy i'm wondering about is Mike Bales. Highly touted goalie coach, but none of our goalies have improved under him. Ullmark leaves for Boston and becomes a world beater. UPL didn't establish himself at all under Biles. Comrie had injuries but also this season is a wash on him. Maybe i'm alone on this but it doesn't seem like Bales' job should be safe.

IDK for sure, but their prospect pool for D-men is weak IMHO.  They're going to need "cheaper" young contracts to maintain space for high dollar guys.  If they are balking at Johnson, I don't agree with their logic.

Atleast hope they are very confident they can bring Nikita Novikov to Rochester next season.

It’s basically a 3rd round pick. Not much value. Someone in the organization must not like him if this is what is going on.

He didn't say this directly but reading inbetween the lines it seems like he sees himself much closer to the NHL then the Sabres do, and Sabres think he will need a lot of time in the AHL while he thinks hes close and probably wanted to get a crack this year and burn off a year. Which seems Sabres don't really agree with.

You are incorrect.  Real goaltending and an upgrade over Jokiharju for Power would have been enough to put us in the playoffs.  They would not have been enough to make us a Cup contender, but we certainly would have been better than Fla, the NYI and Pitt.

I think you're fooling yourself thinking that. The team defense was atrocious. And all you need to do is look at the penalty kill stats, even when teams didn't score on us, they were getting grade A chances. PK is about a unit, a system and having that extra juice. Replacing one guy wasn't going to fix the defense.

And for all the crap Joki gets, he had some good games down the stretch too. Let's not make it out that he's some guy who has been trash every single night.

According to who.  I expected them to be a playoff team this season.  I expected the GM to fix the goaltending and the defense and he didn't.  This team is in the top 6 in offense for the entire NHL and missed the playoffs because the defense and goaltending is worse than last year.  That's on Adams.  He knew he had to fix those areas and failed to do so.  If this team had even NHL average goaltending we'd be in the playoffs.

And they are bottom 5 in most defensive categories. A goalie or a d-men was not going to fix those issues.

    I can't get here

He did mention he was drunk.

Blaming Adams is absolutely silly. Could they have done things better and put themselves in a better spot? Of course, but that game works the other way too. They could've done some wrongs and been further away like Detroit or Ottawa.

This season was fun, and that's part of it... Winning is a bigger part, and we didn't do it enough.

    And they won 40 games.

Way more then anyone expected them to.

    Memo to KA.

Sign (or trade for) a good goalie - Adin Hill? Demko, Hart, Saros

    Trade for Marcus Foligno

    Sign Erik Haula

    Sign Orlov

Find a LHD partner for Lyubushkin

Trade Jokiharju, Bryson, UPL, VO and Comrie

I don't think Foligno can keep up with this team.

And i don't see why people are so down on Jokiharju? Dude's played 268 NHL games and is just 23 years old. He still has another level to go. You won't get fair value for him and at $2.5 million he's great value for this team. Stick him on the 3rd pairing and you can move him up if theres any disruption to the top 2 pairings, as he's someone who has experience playing with the skilled guys.

Your reading comprehension is not good.

I never said they will roster 3 goalies

I never said anything related to him failing or getting injured   I did say If they decide Levi is not ready to be the #1 they will likely bring in someone else.  If it is decided that Levi is the #1 they won’t burn assets on a backup - either UPL to Comrie will be the #2

How can they possibly know by start of next season if Levi is “ready to be the #1”?

It seems like that’s impossible to know. Adams keeps talking about not taking short cuts and doing it the right way, and thinking they can know based on these few games he’s ready to be #1 and just pair Comrie with him is absolutely asinine to me. Maybe I’m wrong.

Apparently changes in Calgary this summer. The ideal player to acquire would be Rasmus Andersson but the more likely name is Hanifin who will be a year from ufa and a poster on another board who has proven in the past to hear things from inside the organization has said Hanifin has been discussed by the Sabres. He has good metrics and is in that age range Adams is looking for. Shoots left but that doesn't matter as much as seen with Dahlin and Muel. Power and Hanifin would make a good 2nd pairing.  One year from ufa would be the risk but would also lower the asking price somewhat.

Interesting. I love watching Andersson play on espn+ when the Sabres are not on. Hanifin is also a very interesting player. I think he's one of Jack Eichel's best friends too, which would be interesting since he knows/believes Jack's entire story on what exactly happened here with his injury and our doctors and organization.

No matter what happens I’m rooting for the team to leave Arizona

I'm with you there. Although, i'm a sucker and would like to see this Tempe project happen. Between JR on with Rivs and Petey, and a friend of mine who lives in Mesa, Arizona, they're convinced if Coyotes make it to Tempe it'll be a gold mine for the nhl. Big snow bird population there and area is buzzin all winter long. Small sample size but NHL could also use 2 more expansion teams for the expansion fee.

Yeah i dont see any chance hes in the AHL next year.

If that world  Tournament happens i could see him doing that to Prepare for next year

There's gonna be a book on him next season. I think that is the difference between what he does now vs. expectations next season. It'll be interesting to see what the Sabres do with him, but i think to say there is no chance he goes to AHL is wrong.

If Levi is indeed deemed ready for the NHL, then Adams is not giving up assets for a backup goalie.   Comrie or UPL will be the back up.  One will be kept and one will be traded.

There is absolutely no way the Sabres are running out both Comrie and UPL next season as the only 2 backup options if Levi falls off or something happens like a injury. Also, Sabres won't have 3-goalies again i'm sure. UPL will need to clear waivers. Someone picks him up (or comrie) right before opening night and just like that Sabres are stuck with Levi and one of those 2? No chance. I can't be convinced of that.

I feel like we might be sleeping on just how good he is. Outside of Bedard he might be the most electrifying player in junior hockey right now. Not just straight stats but the way he impacts games.

He's become unstoppable. He had a slow start to the WHL season but he returned with a bit of an injury. Hard to imagine the Sabres will send him back to Winnipeg next year as well.

And according to that article the Sabres are owed a grand total of $30,100.  Pretty sure they can work something out there.  😉

Yeah weird, at the top they claim Sabres are among the biggest owned along with Arizona Diamondbacks who are owned $30 million, but then it shows $30k for the Sabres.

  15. The last 40 min might have been this teams best 40-min stretch this season, and they've had many good moments. Props to them.

I don't think he's going to get really going this season as the schedule is slowly ending, but i just feel like watching JJ Peterka the last few games hes on verge of breaking out and becoming a regular contributor to the teams scoring. Beautiful assist tonight and he had some chances. I've been loving his game lately.

MLB is going to take over about 14 RSN channels that Bally can't handle:  https://nypost.com/2023/03/12/mlb-to-stream-games-for-free-amid-looming-diamond-sports-bankruptcy-sources/

    From the article:

Locally, MSG Networks, which doesn’t broadcast MLB games, has seen its earnings decline and has a roughly $900 million debt payment in October 2024. If it cannot refinance its loans it too will very likely go bankrupt, sources said.

    That doesn't sound good.

We recently beat Tampa twice, Florida, Washington,

So you don’t acknowledge we played them on a back to back?  I credit the Islanders as a grinding team, tough to play against.  We didn’t have our wheels tonight.  We are not out of it

We are a team on the rise.  The Islanders are not, they have not advanced in the standings in years   We will pass them next year

The Islanders found a way to get a point against us on Miller night, they were coming off a back to back after playing the Bruins the night before. This is the youngest team in the league, dont think back to back really affects them as much as fans think.
