  1. I drove up here to western North Carolina, leaving last Thursday, the rain followed me all the way up. A low pressure system sat over this area for four days, dropped 10.5" in this location on Saturday and Sunday. I can deal with some drizzle for outdoor activities, after all it does that quite often here. But it was to the point of staying in the condo all weekend and going next door to the Sapphire Mountain Brewing Company to watch the hockey games. Rain finally started to let up Monday, but flooding closed one of the roads until mid-day Monday. I planned to get about 3 days in of outdoor fun and 2-3 days of exploring Asheville and the immediate suburbs in the eyes of a perspective resident in hopes of moving here soon. I've been here several times but not looking at it as a resident. Well, all the got cut in half and didn't get nearly as much done as a wanted. Actually, the original plan was to spend about 10 days here but about a week before I was about to leave I found out I need to be back to FL on Saturday. So what started off last month as a potential 10 day trip turned out to be 3 days worth of activities. I'm not happy.

  2. As much as I hate to say it, I'd like to see Stafford stay. His trade value has dwindled to nothing and now cap space isn't an issue. If this team goes through a rebuild there will be holes to fill in the lineup for a year or two. There are going to be a few FA signings that will be far from groundbreaking.

  3. <p>Darcy Regier is just unbelievable! He lets Stafford and his $4M salary sit on the benches, but

he passes on Jussi Jokinen with his $3M. Why didn't he claim Jokinen and then trade Stafford

(sending Flynn back to the AHL if necessary to make roster space until the deals go down)?!?

Why not pick up Daugavins either? He's another Latvian; perhaps he could help Girgensons?

No. Instead we have a do nothing GM who's in the process off letting his free agents walk for

nothing just as I predicted at the beginning of the season. Let's face it, if the Sabres are

losing to Tampa Bay, how can they consider themselves up to facing Pittsburgh and Chicago in

    the play-offs?

It's plain to see that the Sabres core want it easy. They slack off until the trade deadline approaches, then they put it all together to convince Darcy that he should keep them. How many cycles of this musthappen before Darcy gets a clue?

The answer is simple, trade away the dead weight and "Stop Winnin' for MacKinnon".

Right, these team has numerous problems so let's try to fix it with other teams' problems. Jokinen was in such high demand that nobody picked him up. Even the Panthers who are down 8 guys.

Who are these free agents that Darcy is letting walk?

  4. IMO, I think that this season you really need to step back and evaluate based on a number of factors, possibly the least of which is points and plus/minus. This team is so f'ed up it's hard to tell who is good and who may be but is being held back because of the teams play.

    It's Hodgson's defense!

  5. What are you, new here? The team sucks and Darcy is to blame. So he'll get blamed. A lot. For everything.

Imagine how much more they would suck if Darcy traded everybody who was good like TrueBlue wants.

I shouldn't have mentioned the FOX News thing. I'm just not a big fan of people who try to sound intelligent by relying on hindsight, and then choose whichever side fits their narrative.

    Straw men are fun

Oh, and I was one of the people who said Darcy should have traded Miller after his Silver/Vezina year because I knew he would be a one hit wonder. See, I can play that game too.

  6. So Darcy gets chastised for not making moves to improve the team. Then Darcy gets chastised for not trading for draft picks to plan for the future. Now Darcy gets chastised for not trading players who are/were putting out and playing up to their potential? Wow, you've got all basis covered don't you? Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Do you work for FOX News?

  7.

And therein lies one of the problems with Regier, no? He appears to never be willing to trade a guy while his value is at a maximum.

Let's see, he had a career year 2 years ago and amidst speculation that he had serious personal issues last year he still went on a tear to almost get us into the playoffs. Now why would anybody at that point trade him?

You know what they say about hindsight...........

  8.

While we will probably get less, we'll still get more than nothing for him. Surely it would be a better negotiating position to have him currently on pace for another 20 goal 50 point season than trying to say "He's just slumping! He'll get it back, I promise!" But that doesn't make him worthless now. Some team will be willing to pay 50 cents on the dollar for a top-6 forward on a down year..so while 50 cents isn't full value, it's still more than nothing.

If he were on that pace chances are he wouldn't be on the trading block. If he were on that pace chances are we wouldn't be on the outside looking in.

  9. It pains me to listen to those two. You would think people in their positions would be required to have some sort of advanced knowledge of sports, alas they are barely at the level of a casual fan. I don't listen to them any more except for pre-game sometimes, it's bad enough they do that. I once had respect for Koziol and Hamilton, even those two have started to head down that road. WGR is taking a slight turn for the worse lately. It really is a shame what television and radio have become in the last few years.

  10. What I'm not sure I like about F1 is the fact that Pirelli is forced to make ###### tires on purpose to promote pit stops because of tire degradation. They could make tires that last all race, but they're not allowed to.

It's got something to do with keeping teams from trying to win a race on fuel mileage by skipping a pit stop. The sanctions have been manipulating the rules and car setups more than usual over the last 5-10 years and it's gotten blatantly obvious to most fans. That's part of why NASCAR has lost a lot of it's fan base. NHRA has gone the same way. You talk to die hard drag racers and most will tell you they can't watch the pros any more.

  11. No - it shouldn't matter. Please, Darcy, trade him.

    Dave Davis@DaveDavisHockey 17m

Wings beat writer says Regier may be unwilling to deal Stafford to Detroit since they'll be division rivals next season. Should that matter?

If Stafford keeps playing the way he does, it would be beneficial to trade within the division. Hell, take all the guys who go through the motions and trade them within the division.

  12. I really don't mean to offend anybody, but this culture of panic we have is ridiculous. Every little storm people freak out and stock up. Having worked at Wegmans for 12 years, I know for a fact we absolutely CRUSH projections when bad weather is predicted....and by bad, I mean as mild as prediction of 2-4" of snowfall. It's one thing to stock up and be fully prepared if you're going to be directly hit by a hurricane....it's another to freak out over a few inches of rain and high winds or a few inches of snow in an area that gets it all the time. Along the Eastern coastline? I get it. In Buffalo? Sorry, but no, this isn't the rapture, or even the Blizzard of '77. And yes, some of this rant is brought to you by the fact I just worked a nightmare day stocking enough bottled water to survive Hurricane Andrew.

I agree. Along with it's liilte brother the 'scare tactic'. I'm not hoping this storm causes as much havoc as they say..... but if it doesn't people are going to start not taking the media seriously any more and eventually it will backfire. Their reputations rely on the severity of this storm..... not that our MSM had much of one left to begin with haha.

  13. I actually love these storms. I already got enough gas this morning to last about 4 days with the genny. I have tarps and insurance if anything comes though the roof. The camper is a nice self-suficient outpost. Booze, check. Food, check.

Nothing to do but sit around, listen to tunes and enjoy watching humans being humbled. Especially the East Coast variety. They've been getting a little uppity.

Haha, that sounds like a plan! Not gonna miss any games.

  14. They don't know where the snow or how much there will be because it depends on the cold front. Most places will probably get rain, but on the western side of the storm, if it is higher elevations or just cold enough, they could measure it in feet. Still have to see where it hits and how it merges

There hasn't been any sensationalism....that's why I pointed it out yesterday. This is like that Dennis Quaid film setting up where the hurricane-like system crashes into a jet cold front and an atmospheric bomb explodes. It is so rare that nobody has said anything yet because of the once in a lifetime sort of pattern that is setting up. Now that all of the models are in synch, you will see serious talk tonight. Still 4 days away, so always a chance for some sort of dud, but this would really nail a lot of people and is pretty serious looking.

I sounded my doom alarm last night and talked to the barn because they have a horse shipping to Cali for the breeders cup.....supposed to fly out of NY on Tuesday. Of course the plane charter is saying the same thing as you are, but I told them to pound on them to move it up a few days. By tomorrow, people will be talking about this.

Yup. I'm not saying it's not going to bring in a bunch of bad weather, but these things get more and more overhyped. Of course people should be prepared, the two storms colliding could be bad. But Sandy, which is just SE of me right now, isn't going to be very strong when it gets up there. I think it's going to be widespread precipitation and some severe weather in places, but when it's al said and done it's just going to be another Irene. Y'all up in the northeast are no stranger to bad weather in the winter. Just be prepared and be smart.

I'm used to all the sensationalism down here. Big storms are no big deal to anybody here yet the news channels love to make it seem like the end of the world. When Isaac went by us, we had 15" of rain...... and went out to dinner that night, and the restaurants were busy. One of these days we really will be in a serious situation down here and nobody will take the media seriously any more.

  15. Almost all the major models now have Hurricane Sandy hooking into the US mid-Atlantic/NE early next week. There are some crazy projections going on given it is supposed to hook up with a cold front. You could have 100MPH winds and 15 inches of rain on the coast, and 3' of snow inland.

The National Weather Service has gone on some special alert that they've never done before in order to capture as much data as possible since this could really knock the daylights out of a huge section of the country. That's what got my interest.

It's supposed to be 75 tomorrow.....time to finish up the outside chores!

    Don't fall for the sensationalism.
