  1. This just in science declares that team fandom is a predetermined DNA trait. Oh wait.. that will never happen. So, since you will still be rooting for that team that will suck year after year after year it seems you have just self-selected into the question you asked. Pot, kettle.. what? I'm pretty sure ownership is counting on fools like you to blame their DNA for HAVING to ROOT for the team.

As a fan I am happy to have a hockey team... as a person I can choose to pay attention to that team or not.

You know what I am worrying about today? The fact that a good acquaintance of mine was run over and killed Sunday night and that my dog, who is 15, keeps throwing up and won't eat.

I had a cat who had the same problem at 15. Not sure if you've had your dog checked, but they told me he suffered with a pretty common bowel disease where the body pulls too much water out of the digestive tract causing them to be extremely constipated. When I took him in, they drugged him up a little bit, gave him an enema, and after a little kick start of fluids to take away the nausea he was back to eating like normal.

  2. I also think that there are vets on the roster right now that can help the rooks develop for at least 4 years, and help them make the playoffs in 2015 or 16. Leino, Ehrhoff, Vanek, and Ott are a good stable of vets to take tough minutes. Adding a shutdown center and nasty 4/5 D to the vet list would be nice.

Not to mention a supposed decent free agent market coming up in 2014 and a surplus of D-men and prospects for trade bait in the event a deal comes up for some talented veterans.

  3. This is why I say we are looking at a 4-5 year rebuild at least. Look at the players who feel have a chance to make the Sabres this season, and next. Figure a time line for the remaining prospects and we are looking at a 3-4 year process for a complete roster turnaround. 2-3 years (over lapping) of growing pains.

At least a 4-5 year rebuild, on top of the 1-2 already in progress? A rebuild doesn't mean the entire team will consist of prospects drafted post 2010.

  4. Attacking you is selfish? And there's a difference between "negative about everything" and "negative about Darcy." I didn't mean to hurt your feelings for months on end.

So we can't be negative unless it's about Darcy. That in itself is another double standard. You can't hurt my feelings.

  5. The only picture I painted is one of disgust. Again, I am a die hard Sabres fan, however, my greatest thrill in sports has come in attending game 7 of the finals in my hometown. Unfortunately, that is tampa. You can take all your post lockout success and ram it. What success?? You call a couple trips to the playoffs success?

So let me ask you, as a fan, would you rather have Tampas results the last 10 years or ours. How excited would you be if all of a sudden Stamkos, St.Louis, Druin, etc were suddenly a Sabre. No I wouldn't want that. We have grigs, girgs, risto, and these other guys you want to slap with a nickname and Stanley cup expectations. Keep on dreaming buddy and keep drinking the Kool-aid. Ownership is counting on fools like you to keep the seats warm.

So I don't know what map you think I am all over. I have never once expressed anything but disgust for this joke of a team that unfortunately is in my DNA to root for. You, me, and everyone else deserves better. Let me throw in some optimism- there's always next year. Oh ######, I forgot I was already told by my GM and owner next year is going to suck. Oh well that's ok there's always the year after next.....and next.....and next.

Any fan that accepts this must be a moron. Are you a moron??

I would be a moron if I continued to waste any more time on your posts. Perhaps you need to go join the Tampa board and have lunch with Deluca. Like LGR says, there's more important things in life than regurgitating the same hatred post after post.

  6. What scares me more than anything is we are already being asked to"suffer" for a few years. What if these guys don't pan out? What if they mature into an average team? Just because you decide to rebuild and develop prospects does not guarantee nothing. All I know is I would much rather start a season with a chance to compete. Come January we will all be begging just to have a team to make the playoffs. This is not going to be fun. It is downright embarrassing that we are being told to expect to "suffer". In today's sports world that is unacceptable. I hope the ###### that run this team get what they deserve and that is about 7k per night in the arena.

Living in Tampa I see a team that finishes 3rd from last have a fanbase that believes they are a few players from competing for the cup. They have hope and excitement. Yet as a die hard Sabres fan we have prospects. #@+# me!!!!

Odd that you paint a picture of optimism and hope and compare them to the Sabres............ yet they've gone to the playoffs less times since the lockout? Yet you blame the pessimism in BFLO on the team. On one hand we have a more successful team in recent years with a restless fan base, on the other hand we have a less successful team in recent years with bonafide superstars and the fan base is excited. I recognize the common denominator, not sure you do.

In one post you managed to cover immediate success, competitive enough to make the playoffs, suffering, being terrible for a few years, happy, sad, pessimism, optimism............. man you're all over the map. At least when Deluca manages to have all basis covered so that he can contradict everybody, he does it singularly.

  7. You're right. Not accentuating the negative is sugarcoating things.

The ironic part about all this is the fact that just last month you were sticking up for everybody who posts negative comments about Darcy in a selfish attempt to attack me. Gotta love them double standards.

Anyone else find this series of DeLuca posts amusing?

I got a chuckle out of it.

  8. This is a premise I have wholeheartedly disagreed with. Considering the Sabres history, if both players max out their potential, Kassian a top-6 power forward and Hodgson a top-2 Center, fans will look back on this trade with regret. Even though in recent Sabres history they have been unable to fill the top two center positions, their has been even a longer drought of legit NHL power forwards on this roster.

One of these days I wish you'd start a thread and you could tell us exactly what the Sabres need to be, player by player. Because nothing ever seems to be good enough for you.

  9. Ott would be taking a big chance staying in Buffalo in hopes that things will turn around within the next 4-5 years and not moving on to a team that is already a piece or two away from a Cup. I doubt too many players would be willing to stay facing that decision. It puts him in the same boat as Miller and Vanek.

Are you serious? You think it will take more than 5 years, on top of the 1-2 years already put towards a rebuild? Do you actually watch sports? Ever stop to think that maybe some athletes realize that most contending teams don't stay that way forever and realize that being somewhere like Buffalo it's only going to get better?

I digress, this isn't the thread for this.

  10. I think Ott is worth something crazy like 5 years 4.5 to 5 million. I like if we can get him for the money you suggested but i can not see it. Maybe 8 years at 3.5-4 million is possible but i am not sure we want this.

I agree with you. I think normally an 8 year contract is risky, as many players are usually inconsistent and might not bring the expected return. But what Ott brings to the table is different, and he has been consustebt all throughout his career. Even if eight years takes him past his prime, over the hill veterans have been key to many successful Cup runs.

I fully expect Regier to make a legitimate offer to Ott when the time comes and expect him to come to a deal on it. It's painfully obvious to those of us that watch the Sabres that there is a major leadership / heart void on this team and it has been there since 7/1/7. I can't believe that DR doesn't see that as well. And long in tooth vets that have been brought in since that time have been attempts to correct that (Grier, Rivet, Regehr, Niedermayer). Ott is the only vet that isn't past his prime that has substantially stepped into and partially filled that void.

While I expect that DR is trying to re-sign RM and TV, I fully expect that he WILL re-sign Ott even if that means giving him a Clarksonesqe contract. (I don't expect it will take quite that to get him re-signed, though I fully expect there to be shouts of 'overpaid' when a deal does get worked out with him.)

Why would Ott re-sign here, especially if they're rebuilding? 3 reasons:

    1. on paper, they have some seriously skilled youth that should be coming into their own before he's too long in the tooth to be of use; being an obvious choice to captain a group that (again, on paper) is upcoming could be intriguing to someone of character;

    2. money talks - TP has a lot of it and they'll be able to fit him in under the cap; and

    3. his 'brother' Mike Weber is a Sabre and likely will be for a long time.

Good call. I hope you're right.

  11. You can add veterans for the short term, no need to make long term investment at this point. Save the longer term contracts for retaining the prospects that hit.

So are you for or against re-signing Ott?

This is true unless the team is intentionally tanking. I don't see them going for the all-in intentional tank.

    I don't either.

  12. So the Stafford thread is still going strong eh, haven't checked in for a bit...... I wonder how quickly it'll blow up once then season starts..... Anyone actually think we'll be "good" this year.?

Oh, it's going to be full speed ahead! With Hecht retiring, all that momentumis going to shift directly onto Stafford. Drew better hope Leino stays healthy.

  13. The're both 6'2. Vanek is like 205, if stafford aint 225, hes at least 215.

They your butt buddies you got nicknames for them.

You're awfully obsessed with homosexuality. Are you sure you have the right forum?

  14. Nailed it. Are you a train man JJ?

Not trains, but different types of engines intrigue me. I remember seeing one of those down here, a modified version of that engine was once used at a pumping station. I remember looking it up when I saw it, the turbo setup is a giveaway. Especially around Lake Okeechobee, you used to be able to see some really cool, old style diesels at pumping stations. Most of them have been decommissioned, but a lot of them they kept in their location and on display. Here's a few I have handy.

  15. So ever since I moved to Rochester in 2007 I've been living right next to a little gem of a museum and never checked it out until today.

The New York Transportation Museum in Henrietta is well worth the admission fee, especially if you have kids. There's a good selection of old train cars, and you can take a trolley ride about two miles down to the old Industry depot and see some more.

I felt just like a little kid again and the volunteers working there are more than happy to chew your ear off about anything and everything train related.

It's a low key little operation that is open only on Sundays year round, and they do special events every other weekend or two, so there's always something to bring you back.

It stirred something from my Thomas the Tank Engine days and I immediately asked if they needed any help, to which they said we could use anyone under 50 to help in the restoration shop, special events, etc. Sign me up!

  16. Everyone knew this that watched the playoffs. I'm just smiling because they overpaid to begin with and he is essentially on the shelf until January of his first season. I figured he would be back to start camp, but his rehab seems pretty long for this era of sports medicine.

He's had several very severe shoulder injuries dating back to his minor league days. I would assume they're going to do everything they can while they're in there.

  17. It's just too bad that there is no 24-hour news outlet that actually practices journalism. I have NPR to read and listen to, but that's about it. And I was always taught that no one should get their all of their news from one source.

For sure, never trust one source. I've been becoming more of a fan of Al Jazeera. I'm sure they have their own agenda just like everybody else, but you'll see stories on there (especially global news) that you won't find on any of the regular news networks.

  18. Made the mistake of sitting down and turning the TV on when I got home from work and ended up on MSNBC. The President was giving an address on the affordable care act after which Martin Bashir and friends begin the ball washing. For a second I thought I might get some journalism, but no. No questions being asked, no legitimate talking points. Just a big pat on the back for their guy.

I really wish that television as a medium was capable of providing actual journalism because sometimes it'd be nice to just sit down on the couch after a long day and be served rather than spoon fed.

I've given up on all the network news. It's become an absolute joke. It's also become terribly obvious which people follow network news when trying to have a conversation with them; I change the conversation as quickly as I turn the channel.

  19. What's the story with that kid? Discarded by three organizations already, despite obvious talent.

I know he's had concussion problems, but there has to be something else.

No, that was pretty much it. I'm very surprised Tallon didn't re-sign him. So you might be right, there might be something else. If so, it's nothing obvious. He stayed healthy all year, he busted his ass and was very vocal on the ice. I think Darcy needs to concentrate on one or two high scoring forwards, but if not I would like to see Mueller.
