  1. There are many things to look forward to, there always is. Last year felt like a punch in the gut, and I am weary of another full season of the same. Come October I'll be there all ready to get all pissed off if they lose, and dance like a fool in my living room when (if?) they win. I am worried though that it will be a rough ride next season.

Still, I'm looking forward to see what Armia has to offer, would love it if Vanek sticks around, curious (not bi-curious) to see how close Ristolainen is, excited to see if Grigorenko can adapt to the speed of NHL hockey, hopeful that Stafford will at least improve somewhat from a statistical nightmare season, hoping for continued growth from Ennis and Hodgson. Have basically given up on Foligno, so hopefully he will prove me wrong as well. I don't think Leino is completely devoid of skill and think he could be a very important part of the Sabres next year etc. etc.

Damn, I've already talked myself into super optimist mode, next year will be the anti-thesis of last year and everything will go right! Sabres finish 4th in the conference and win back to back playoff series! Can't wait!

I'm right there with ya! I can't take not having any hockey to watch, thankfully hockey has such a short offseason.

  2. What are you looking forward to? I'm just curious. Seeing what Armia can do? Enroth playing more? After that, I can't think of anything to look forward to. And I expect our team to perform worse than this past season, especially if we trade Vanek & Miller (which I think we should do). The additions of McBain and Ristolainen won't change anything IMO.

Regarding Darcy, I thought his performance in last year's draft was excellent! Grigs & Girgs - I couldn't be happier! The year before I thought his choice of Kassian was awful, which is what I think of his choices this year when considering who he could have had. So when he does well IMO, I'm singing his praises. If not, I'll call it the way I see it.

I'm looking forward to what he's going to do this week. I think Darcy will make some moves and/or pick up a couple of free agents. Between Armia, McNabb, Grig, Girgensons, maybe a couple of yesterdays picks and any new transactions............... the possibility of seeing Enroth be a full time starter. Last year was an absolute train wreck, I'm looking forward to the fact that I think it will only be better.

I get upset when they lose, I get upset when players don't play up to their potential, I get upset if I think Darcy makes a bad move......... but I'm not going to go out of my way to be as negative and relentelss as some of the people on here. I've got better things to worry about. It's a game, it's entertaimment. I enjoy contrasting the Sabres and the Panthers. It seems as though some on here really enjoy trashing anybody and anything related to the Sabres organization. If I got to that point I might as well just stop watching because it defeats the purpose of being a fan of the sport.

I think Darcy did fine, and I am so sick of reading this. I must've read it like 18 times in the past two days. There are legitimate gripes against Darcy and people are voicing them.

I've got no problem with people voicing their gripes and their opinion. I have a problem with it happening in every single thread. I'm sorry you value the rights of others to voice their opinion, and not mine.

  3. I think there are quite a few things to look forward to. I'm looking forward to the season starting. It can only be better than last year.

Some people will just never be happy no matter who Darcy drafts.

  4. Would it be in four games? Or seven? How did they play? You'll have to give me some more information before I can give you an idea of my level of bitchitude after the franchise's first Cup. Also, was the Cup-winning overtime goal a pretty goal or fluky?

It would be a 6th game overtime goal that bounced off an opponent's skate.

So yeah, they would need to work on that. :D

  5. Get the level where they pick a top line center. Don't have one yet unless Grig does a miracolous turn around on the effort side of things. Everything we were concerned about and why he dropped to us last year is showing up. Boy needs to get some gitty up in his hustle... Till then, I will continue to gripe that the Sabres have missed their target again.

You do know how old he is, right?

Nevermind. The Sabres could win the Stanley CUp and most people on this board would still find something to bitch about.

  6. Darcy sucks, suffer, suffer, Pegual sucks, 3-5 years, Darcy doesn't know what he's doing.............. This place has turned into a broken record, every post is the same keywords and catch phrases and a complete lack of any intelligible discussion. I think I need to take a break and have somebody PM me when this place gets back to the way it once was.

  7. Wow, some people are really scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Who cares what the experts say, I wish they drafted a forward even if he wasn't BPA (sarcasm). These two guys are both huge and love to hit! That's what we have been screaming for over the past five years. Remember when Myers was drafted and we all loved his size and hoped that he had a mean streak to him? I was very disappointed when I found out he wasn't overly physical. We these guys are mean SOB's. Seriously, come playoff time in 3 or 4 years these are the guys who wear down the opposition and win series.

I would tend to trust the experts with their unbiased, educated opinion over those with biased, blind hatred towards the entire front office staff of the Sabres.

  8. I hope the angst I'm reading on this thread is about the trades and/or the lack thereof.

    Because the draft went well.

We leave the draft with two of the four best defencemen — 6'4, 220-pound twin towers, who can skate move the puck and like to hit.

These are the types of players most of the board wanted us to draft and they both were generally considered worthy of top 10 picks.

Compher will be the relentless type of second or third liner Sabre fans will love.

Bailey and Hurley are boom or bust types; Bailey has a power forward body and attitude, just hasn't had the results yet; Hurley could be another second-line two-way player who dominated his league, but has played against high-level competition yet.

They are the types of players you can and should take a chance on with second-round picks.

Our prospect list took a serious jump today, and that is what the draft is for.

I don't like losing Sekera, I desperately wanted Lindholm. And I was hoping for the blockbuster trades.

But I am not going to lose sight of the fact we took some very good hockey players.

Nice counterpoint to the doom & gloom we've been hearing all day.

  9. Not sure I find this to be the best idea.

    John Vogl@BuffNewsVogl 4m

Darcy Regier says he will allow Amerks goalie David Leggio to become an unrestricted free agent without making him a contract offer.

I'm wondering if he's waiting to see what kind of offers he gets for Miller this week before committing. He might be giving him an opportunity to have a shot to play in the NHL somewhere else IF Miller stays. He might be saying to be patient in that he could sign Leggio to backup Enroth next year if he can trade Miller. I think we'll have a lot better idea what the hell's going on in a couple of weeks. After what's happened today, Darcy has to have something in mind.

  10. Maybe we'll "tank" our way all the way to the 7th overall pick in 2014!

I won't be shocked if Vanek or Miller is still here to start the season. And what is Ehrhoff still doing on this team? Does he really want to spend the rest of his prime years on a terrible, last place team? And couldn't the Sabres actually get something for him?

If we're trying to bottom out, we're still doing it wrong.

Man, a quiet offseason would really do you a world of good.

  11. their draft options were a guy who quit on his VOX test, Horvat (someone you just said we don't need another of) or a defenseman with elite level potential. How did they drop the ball again?

That's why I think we need to wait for a couple of weeks to pass judgement. Darcy knows he has trade bait in Miller and (hopefully not) Vanek and a couple of D-men he could part with. Not to mention free agency with a ton of cap room available. I'm not happy, but let's wait and see.

  12. Agreed...the idea is to win a Cup. So how exactly do you plan on doing that without scoring? Everyone is down on Regier because this organization hasn't produced. As one of Regier's proponents, I have often touted his trading ability and his acquisition of Grigs and Girgs in last year's draft.

But this year's draft was a downer. Sorry, but we have more potential NHL defensemen in the queue than we do forwards. And there were good forwards to be had with their two picks. I do not see why we didn't take them instead of what scouting said were the BPA.

I'm with you, but I need to wait until next week to see what he does. I'm not pleased with how today went, but Friday is an entirely different beast.

  13. He doesn't seem very happy and the feeling is that they may still be forced to move him. Can you imagine them losing BOTH?

I really don't think it matters. They're going to lose the Sedin sisters next year. Vancouver is going to be hitting a brick wall in the very near future. I want to feel bad for Luongo, but it takes two to agree on a contract. He wanted big $$ and long term. He got it, he has to live with it. Gillis shouldn't go out of his way to appease him, in my opinion. They knew he was a primadonna when they traded for him.

He's got to feel like he's won the lottery. Schneider seems to have been blind sided.

I think Schneider got the shaft. They gave him the impression he was going to be the one going forward.

  14. Pardon me for not going through all these threads to find the link, but could somebody tell me where I might find the live feed online? NBC feed ends at 7PM, I think, and AT&T doesn't carry the NHL network.
