  1. Seemed to be a bit of a drop off on the last game played which suggests to me the coaching change was not as popular with the Buffalo Sabres Hockey team as it was for the Sabre fan base. I realize the coaching change was not going fix anything overnight.

Getting healthy, gaining much needed confidence in each other and the Sabre coaching staff all takes time. Something the Buffalo Sabres are running out of this season. Myself personally the team can be much better then it has displayed and I point to Covid 19 as the main culprit.

    Time will tell...

Trubisky is an upgrade over Barkley and Fromm IMO. And it’s only a one year deal. You should see all the people losing their minds over this...

Slightly, the Bills now have the two best QB's in our Division, lol

No, you're right. I wouldn't mind that atoll.  Perhaps we hang him upside down and send him acrost the Falls on a wire and see what happens?

    I like it,

Sacrificing Hutton to the hockey Gods in some way, shape or form would also be most advantageous to all concerned,

Well, besides Hutton, but hey, he can take one for the team. Lord only knows he's let enough pucks slip by to be so deserving of such an honor bestowed upon him.

(although they might spit him back and become even more angry)

I remember messing an exit early in a game with a new coach as a young player and getting sat.

I'm sure the message he was trying to send to me or the team was "we can't be making those mistakes." The message I received was "I don't trust you" and it messed up my confidence far more than it should have. I was used to responsibility and my self-image was that I was responsible. I learned that personally, I responded a lot better to being given responsibility than having it taken away.

I apply that to Jeff Skinner and Ralph Krueger.

I've always thought that not playing with Eichel was far less damaging to Jeff than not playing in overtime, or when the goalie is pulled, or any other time that calls for offence. It's not really about ice time and linemates. Jeff defines himself as an elite goal scorer. In an effort to expand his game, Ralph stopped treating him like one and it had the result of him questioning the identity he built for himself.

We had a glimpse of the feisty Jeff Skinner the last game. I'd almost forgotten what that looked like.

There's a video on YouTube containing every goal from the 10 game streak. Almost all players involved are still sabres and still have their peak physical fitness and skills. Yet we haven't seen them look remotely like they do in those clips since very early in the 2019 season.

One could say responsibilty and confidence go hand in hand.

Thanks fellas , for some great posting

Id give Skinner a big thumbs down too, for a few reasons.  He also has never been part of a winning team.  He doesn’t play a complete 200 ft game, so he can’t lead by example in all areas.  He is personally struggling mightily as a player right now, he doesn’t need any extra pressure.

    Or perhaps he does?

    Some people flourish under pressure...

No!  Is Jack a good leader?

If we are discussing who would be a good replacement as captain for a questionable leader in Jack, would you choose an equally questionable leader in Hall?

On a somewhat related note, my goodness does this team need to add a few more guys who have played on good NHL teams!  They are almost all career bottom dwellers.

Its a good point you make about needing a winning mentality brought in to help develop and turn the Sabres into a winning culture.

Perhaps Jeff Skinner would be a better choice to wear the C. ( experienced )

Hall has shown me absolutely nothing in terms of on ice leadership. Just my opinion. At this point resigning him is a quick no for me as well.

    Fair enough,

Myself personally, I think its hard for anyone to show leadership including Jack on a team in disarray IMO.

As long as Jack is on the team, it’s moot, but why is Hall a leader?  He has never even been a part of a good team.

    Has Jack? ( NHL )

I think Hall leads by example when you can take a puck to the face and continue fighting for your team.

A 2 week interruption due to a covid outbreak.

Top pairing Risto and McCabe having career years, one out indefinitely with long haul COVID symptoms, the other a season ending knee injury.

Borgen, a shining light in an otherwise dark season, suffers a broken arm.

Eichel possessed by the spirit of Ville Lieno.

Microscopic shooting % (historically low at even strength).

Goal post after goal post after goal post.

What can we do to appease the gods?   Burnt offering?  Blood sacrifice?

    Something needs to be done.

I always thought sending Tasker over the falls in a barrel might appease the football Gods.

Hockey?  How about hanging Rob Ray upside down by his little toe until he cries or his toe falls off?

    I'm just saying...

Agreed Jack is awesome just not a Captain... take the pressure off him and let him find his game again.

Taylor Hall perhaps?  I think he may have earned the kind of respect from the Buffalo Sabre hockey team needed to set a good example in my humble opinion North Buffalo.

I am still mixed until  someone can figure out way to light a fire under Jack and show him how to be a leader or if not find another Captain til he grows up.

Myself personally, I agree North Buffalo. I'm a huge fan of Jack although I'm not sure the C is a good fit for him.

    I hope you are right.

Now that the coach has been sacrificed we will see what the players are made of.  Many of these guys have been through many coaches and they didn't seem to want to play for any of them.

    Yup, that is my concern.

Sometimes its necessary to take one step back to take two steps forward. Its a coaches job to make sure the team is well prepared and has the confidence it needs to move forward. Evidently that has not been the case with R K. So while I feel Krueger may have been made the sacrificial lamb in what has been the start of a very unfortunate season.

Its a new dawn, a new day,

and I'm feeling good about the future...

  14. Confidence, we hear this word tossed around allot as If not having it is the root of all evils. In reality from a team perspective that invloves and requires many moving parts working together in unison to become formidable. A force to be reckoned with, this is probably true. Without confidence in a hockey team there is no trust between Defenseman and Goalie or Goalie in his Defenseman. There is no going Forward when the team itself is skating backward trying to do to much and overcompensate because without confidence in each other it becomes a one man team.

Some may wonder why I viewed the most recent loss to the Devils as a small step forward in a team needing / gaining confidence. We watched Hall go down hard from a puck to the face that would have taken most players out for the count and then some. I think its safe to say now the Buffalo Sabres hockey team has confidence that Hall is here to fight to the bitter end with his fellow teammates. Myself personally, its the kind of thing that builds team confidence. A sense of unity. One for all, and all for one.

I can understand from a fans perspective everyones frustrations. On the other hand with the teams two MVP's out and considering the disruption due to covid. Now the firing of HC RK. I think under the circumstances it helps explain why we have yet to see what appeared to be a formidable hockey team on paper materialize in real time on ice in my humble opinion.

    Confidence...

Any positive play by this year’s Sabres needs to be in context.  In this case they lost against a bad team adding to a crazy losing streak.  If they put together a few good games against better competition then ok.  But tonight’s game isn’t a measure of improvement.

These guys got to learn to play together and for each other.

    It was for me...
