  1. I still expect something to happen with Buffalo before tomorrow's deadline. It's going to be to move Halak for something decent with all these goalies on the move. There is still Thomas, Brodeur and possibly Cam Ward still available.

  2. So it looks like the Penner deal was basically a 3-way deal with the Caps pick the Ducks received for Penner going to Dallas for Robbidias (sp?)

Robidias is a solid move by them, I still think Anaheim might go all in this year since Selanne is gone at the end of the season to retirement.

The Oilers are looking pretty good in net now compared to where they started the season.

Still need defense and they have a bunch of softies up front. I would be more worried up Colorado in the future than Edmonton.

  3. And the unloading of Fasth happens.. and now the Ducks are primed to sign Miller in the off-season.. just as I expected.

And the Sabres are left holding the bag with Halak. No big deal either way.

That is a strong possiblity that Miller goes to Anaheim now that Fasth is gone and with Hiller still unsigned. That might leave his decision to sign a long term deal with the Blues up in the air. Should be very interesting now

I'm also thinking that Anaheim might go all in this year because it is Selanne's last hurrah.

  4. Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie

Dustin Penner is a Washington Capital. #TSN #Tradecentre

    Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun

Anaheim Ducks are indeed acquiring Stephane Robidas from the Dallas Stars. ... not official yet though

    Eric Stephens @icemancometh

Also hearing @Dustinpenner25 to Washington is real in addition to Viktor Fasth heading to Edmonton.

I'm sure Penner is going to be thrilled about that move. He lives in South California full time I believe. He won't do much for Washington.

  5. After seeing the comment from Moulson about no negotiations being had between him and the Sabres, I really wonder how true any of the talk was about the Sabres attempting to re-sign any of their players (or getting an idea where they stand with a rebuild) before trying to move them. Did TM actually have discussions with Miller about the possibility of him being willing to stay? How about Ott? Or has his view since he was brought on been that everyone, especially those with expiring contracts are trade chips that will be moved

I'm wondering if they had any talks with any of the unrestricted free agents. To me I'm sure some of this might have led to LaFontaine wanting to resign. You want players to come here but you offer no contracts to the one's that are already here. Makes no sense.

  6. That team will never amount to a tinkers damn while Ralph Wilson Jr owns it and Ralpie's boyz run it.

But that's a topic for another day and forum.

Very true. They just don't have a clue on how to run this team. Constant coaching changes, constant player changes lose 1 solid player just to use another 1st round pick on a player that just left. They will never get it. That's the only thing that puzzles me about the Bills Fanbase is why do you constantly show up to watch this garbage.

What's a kid like Grigorenko to think about this whole Pat Lafountaine affair?

Wasn't it Pat who said that Grigo had to learn to be patient and EARN his place on teams.

I think that Pat should look himself in the mirror. Twice now, Pat has been rushed into influential

positions and then left at the first sign of trouble. That's not a good example Pat.

My take on things is that Lafountaine was being forced into a figurehead role and that he didn't

care for it. That's not what he signed up for. But, come on. He should have at least stayed

to the end of the year. You gotta practice what you preach.

I take this all back if it was something more insideous that people are keeping private. Well,

except the Grigorenko part because this kid has to really have his head spinning right now.

I bet LaFontaine wanted to keep Miller and Ott and add pieces to it. Weren't they saying they want to keep players that want to be here and land Buffalo as a place where free agents can come. Tear it down and start over is what I'm guessing Murray has in mind plus like someone else said it buys him more years to right the ship.

  7. Pat left when he heard the Bills were not going to tag Byrd. Nothing to do with Nolan or the Sabres.

I don't even know why people pay much attention to the Bills. They are a farm team for the rest of the NFL. When Marcell Dareus contract is up he will be gone as well. When will people learn why bother going to Bills game's and supporting a team that has no clue on how to put a winning team together and try to keep it together.

  8. I live in Las Vegas and we don't have enough to get a team here. That would be pure stupidity if they expand to Las Vegas. The pro team we have draws on 2000-7000 and I'm being generous on the 7,000. I lived in Buffalo for my first 16 years and have watched Las Vegas expand but the only market I see happening and that is a long shot is the NBA.

  9. Any player we can get in the top 3 should be a solid player. I really think Edmonton takes Ekblad if they end up with a top 3 pick with us. Reinhart or Bennett should be a good prize if we don't land 1st overall. I would much rather get the 1st overall next year and have the second or third pick in this years draft.

  10. I have liked Lafontaine since he was a Buffalo Sabre but if he hired Murray and they didn't see eye to eye he should have never hired him. I'm sure LaFontaine wanted to keep Miller and Steve Ott (Especially since Ott wanted to stay) and after Murray was set on unloading both I'm sure Lafontaine was pissed. I thought they wanted to keep players that wanted to be here.

This is my opinion if we are gonna do a complete overhaul like Darcy was doing you might as well keep it going and load up on prospects and more picks. This team wasn't going anywhere with Miller or Ott until they add alot more pieces. And you can't afford to lose two guys to unrestricted free agency for nothing. This team was 1 second line and 3 4th lines. No real true threats of goal scoring up front and nothing to really build around for the future up front. This team doesn't have much to keep up with Colorado in the future. I said this before and I will say it again this is gonna be at least 3-5 years before we see playoffs and I'm leaning closer to 5. If Murray plays his cards right and with all these picks he can land players that he feels a top line guys. We have a solid shot at having a great team for the future with these two upcoming drafts and with what we already have in the system. And I'm not talking about Grigs but more of Compher, Batiste, Armia, Risto, Zadorov, McCabe.

  11. Tim Murray looks like a guy I want in charge of the rebuild.

I'm just going to sit back sit back and watch what he does.

I agree with this. I'm looking forward to seeing what Tim is going to do this upcoming week. People talk about the picks but the good thing is with all these extra picks if Tim has someone he wants the extra ammo to make a deal with picks is greatly needed. I'm really looking to see Murray in action at the draft. I'm sure he has players that he has scouted numerous times already and will do almost whatever it takes to get them.

  12. They better put this to bed quickly they don't need more negative stuff coming out of this team especially during a rebuild and for the future. They don't need more negative press if they want quality free agents to land in Buffalo. What is more depressing is that Nolan doesn't sound that great in that news conference. I'm wondering if he even will accept the full-time heading coaching spot in Buffalo after this mess. What a joke this is becoming. If some of this has to do with Ryan Miller and Steve Ott not getting contract offers or some other BS thing between PLF and Murray I will be pissed.

  13.

I expected that moving a top 5ish in the league goalie and a top flight 3rd line / decent 2nd line LW with grit, faceoff ability, and oodles of leadership to a legit Stanley Cup contender would get us something more immediate than a prospect that is still a couple years out and two picks that won't see the light of FnC for at least 3 years. Hell, the prospect we did get isn't even among StL's top 3 prospects.

We got alot. But I'm not interested in equating numbers of return with quality of return. I'd rather see one ready-for-primetime player that was at the top of their prospect pool than a pile that looks like Drew Stafford heavy and 3 guys with a 50/50 shot of contributing in the NHL.

*IF* all this works out we aren't going to see any gain from it for another 4 friggin years. I guess that is my issue with the trade results. I can stomach another year. Not exactly willing, but, you know. But I don't want picks. No more fecking picks. we need players ready to play.

I have to agree we need some players that can play now but you also need some vets around to help with the young guys. If Murray is such a great talent evaluator then he is gonna want to have as many picks as possible in order to pick certain players. But here is my real question. I'm sure someone might have mention this already but what if the blues don't make the WCF's and then decide to sign Miller after the draft? What happens to that pick? Is it just a third in 2016?

  14. I hope I am wrong, but I just don't understand why so many think there is a good chance either guy will return to the Sabres, I suppose it is possible, but how often does that really happen? I am sad to see the end of a great Sabre career with Miller being traded. He was, unquestionably the heart and soul of this team. I will admit, before this current season, I had been a little up and down on him the 3 previous years or so...so unbelievably great at times, and then a bit underwhelming at others. What I always appreciated about him, was how much he cared... all that said though, I am actually a little sadder to see Ott go. He is the type of player that this franchise had been in need of for years now... I would love to see him re-sign, but I am not crossing my fingers. As somebody said tonight in all the analysis, an ex-player, when asked what it was like to be traded said.."you feel terrible at first...your being being separated from all your buddies, sent off somewhere you don't know anyone...but once you get there, you learn pretty quickly "I miss my old buddies, but there a bunch of great guys here too". And your real true friends, you keep in touch with"

I have to agree Ott was a player that Buffalo needed. He's tough and plays hard every shift. I'm very sad to see him go. It would be nice to see him re-sign here but I highly doubt it.

  15. That conditional pick definitely sweetens the pot. It must become a 2016 first if Miller signs after the 2014 draft then?

Could Stewart AND Moulson be enough to net Lazar?

Wouldn't that be overpayment for Lazar? I had a feeling that Miller had to be paired with someone to get the deal done. I still wish they could have landed Rattie in this deal. I don't know if it's such a great ideal if Moulson gets moved unless if we get a can't miss prospect or more in the deal. It should be an interesting deadline this year.
