Option 1 : McCabe ( I think he has more value than Vesey, so the rags need to sweeten the pot)
Option 2 : Scandella ( I throw in a 3rd rounder for them to take him)
Absolutely not for McCabe but I would do Scandella. . Vesey is a 3rd liner at best.

He didn't say no progression, he said "not exactly screaming progression enough..." which I think means he hasn't progressed as fast or as much as you'd like to see. I too however, would like to see him get a last chance but mostly because we don't have many other options. If we can somehow get good enough that he becomes irrelevant that'd be more than ok. Or, a good trade, that'd be ok too.
Still gonna say a 3rd line of Mitts, Nylander Oloffson works for me to start the season and if it fails, send them all back to Rochester, but maybe, just maybe a youthful line of speed might work. Worth a try imo.
That 3rd line sounds fine. Who is on the second line?

I think Winnipeg would do Ristolainen for Trouba. They need a right D and Ristolainen has a decent cap number. Sabres would have to have a contract in place before the trade.
-
Sabres are interested in Zucker per LeBrun. What would it take to get him?

I think the Top Six goes like this:
1. Hughes
2. Kaapo
3. Turcotte
4. Byram
5. Dach
6. Zegras
I agree with Liger that it will be between Cozens, Caufield but I would add Newhook as well.
Playing in the BCHL dropped his stock but he did dominate the competition and looked pretty damn good at the U-18s
The Mittelstadt and Laaskenson Picks prove Botterill will go off the board at times.
I totally agree with the order. I hope we take Cozens in this scenario.

Like that time he traded spare parts for Jeff Skinner or the time he traded spare parts for Montour?
The Skinner deal was great. The Montour deal has not been determined.

Well I can't do anything about it so I'm not going to constantly bitch about it like a pretty little bitch.
Maybe you should get a tatoo of Botteril's face so you can remember all the good times.

But what is the value is bringing it up over and over. In every thread, on and on. We know, it sucks let's move on and try to crack a ***** smile.
Because we still have the same incompetence at GM. How can anyone trust Botteril to rebuild this team?

Toronto will be looking for creative ways to work around their cap issues. I wonder if we could entice them into some sort of multiple player/picks deal where they think they can find some sibling chemistry and they give us Kapanen or maybe Johnsson. A long shot, but you never know.
I think Toronto would be interested in Risto. Kadri and Kapanen for Risto. I think I would do that trade.

I like the two Tampa and hope something gets done there. I know it's the forward group that needs upgrading the most but I can't stop thinking about Trouba. That guy can be a monster and if Risto is dealt in the Tampa trade then he would be the perfect replacement IMO. What's the deal on Kessel? Does he have a NMC? If not would you entertain the idea? Can you imagine a top line of Skinner - Eichel - Kessel?
Skinner Eichel and Kessel would be a defensive liability. We would probably have to trade Ristolainen to Winnipeg to get Trouba.
-
The first step is obvious-fire Botteril. I have no confidence in his ability to judge talent or build a team. If we trade Risto it will be another ROR trade. I see another lottery season coming up. Botteril will probably be terminated after next year. Some of the posters here are the same people who used to post "in Buddy Nix we trust" on the bills message board. We all want to be optimistic but I think Buddy Nix was a much better GM than Botteril , and I thought Buddy was a terrible GM.

Sure, okay. They are the worst. Boom. So what are they supposed to do to not suck? Hire a new coach? Sign and likely overpay their top goal scorer? They did those.
It could all fail. And Jerry Sullivan wants to be the first to say "I told you so." Jerry's forte is not to offer thoughtful analysis. It's to remind you of the last time something didn't work and say it could happen again.
It's all he does. There's no skill to it. If he's wrong, people will forget. He'll move on to hammering the Bills or UB or anyone he thinks he can land a punch on.
While I agree that a specific plan to improve the team from Jerry would be insightful, I feel his comments are designed to force change in the decision makers who continue to perform poorly in the Sabres organization [Botterill)

What would it cost to move up from 31 to 14 approximately. I could see Podkolzin falling to 14 due to the Russian factor. Our 2nd round pick and what else?
-
I think if Bots plays hardball Skinner will sign for 8x8. No other team will off 64 million guaranteed and he wants to be in this location. However, I don't feel Bots is shrewd enough to out negotiate Don Meehan. Botts will likely offer 8x9 which is what the contract will be.

Do you actually read and enjoy his columns? If so, you read very very few sports writers. He is one of the worst I’ve ever read. And the straw man sarcasm of “how can Sully” etc... has nothing to do with the actually logical reasons he was so disliked. But you know this ...
He is disliked by some posters due to his frequent criticism of both the Bills and Sabres organizations. Both organizations have more than deserved it although fortunately things are looking up for the Bills. While I agree its hard to enjoy the columns its been equally hard to enjoy the teams.
I don't like his criticism of the Pegulas, but they are the ones who hired Rex, Byelsma, Murray, Botteril, Lafontaine which have proved to be debacles. The Pegulas are great people who have helped the city tremendously. Unfortunately they have frequently hired the wrong people

How can Sully be so critical of our beloved Sabres? Well maybe its because we are the worst organization in the NHL since Chiarelli got canned in Edmonton.

I do not know whom we will choose, but he must play in the very first year as Kotkaniemi and Tkachuk..
There is virtually no chance of that happening.

Is every player the same as every other player, with age being the only distinction?
Sam is younger and hasn't reached his peak yet. However he still produces more points than Skinner. 8 year contracts are better served by younger players than older players. Sorry you couldn't follow the age concept. It is a bit complicated.

But he’s not as good at the thing that wins hockey games.
While Skinner is a better goal scorer, Sam had just as many points and drives possession by creating plays. I like Skinner too but the age for the last 3 years of the contract is worrisome. He could easily fall off a cliff like Moulson and Okposo.

Yes -- I'd rather give it to Skinner. As I've posted before, I think goal-scoring is the most valuable skill there is in hockey, and Skinner has tons of it. He scores in a bunch of different ways. He's also fast, he plays with an edge and he fits beautifully on Eichel's wing.
There is a decent chance that Reino proves to be worth more than Skinner, but he's not close to being there yet IMHO.
(BTW, I moved a bunch of the Reino posts to the new Reino thread -- thanks @LGR4GM)
This wrong based on age alone. Sam would be much younger than Skinner when the contract begins for both.
-
I definitely think we should stay at 7. There will be a very good player there for us who will help us in a few years from now. I just hope Botteril has the patience because none of these guys are ready to play in NHL next year. (or possibly the year after)

This is all reasonable...but Eichel is now going into his FIFTH season. If the Sabres are ever going to build a good team around Eichel, he absolutely needs a high-end winger to play his prime years with. Skinner was fantastic in that role this year until he hurt his ankle. He just turned 27 a couple of weeks ago. He's tough, he's fast and he can score in a bunch of different ways -- including playoff-type goals from the dirty areas. I think he's pretty much a lock to score 35+ per year for at least the next 5 years.
Will he continue to deliver at the same level until he's 34? Probably not, but that's part of the price here.
The Sabres need to keep him. They can't screw around with this and hope that Olofsson or TT or Nylander magically grows into that role. And they can't afford the psychological blow that losing him would deliver.
Dude you’re delusional if you think he’s going to score 35 goals for the next 5 years. He’s done it twice in 9 years. I don’t think he’s physical enough for playoff hockey and he’s a defensive liability. Now I don’t want to lose him because we have little talent otherwise but Botteril is desperate and is going to overpay. In a few years time we will look at Botteril as among the worst GM in Sabres history.

TT should play in Rochester and KO is a 4th liner at best.
