  1. The refrain has been even Scotty Bowman couldn't win with these guys. But finish dead last? No way. Something was very much amiss, and it's hard for me to see greatness out of Housley after this debacle. Also, FWIW, Botterill has gotten off easy, too. He had a draft, a free agent period, a trade deadline, a whole season. He turned over half the roster and they still stunk. He sat on his hands while the team burned early on, and the Kane deal was dreadful. Not a good start for either guy.

This franchise is just jinxed. Even when Bowman was in charge they couldn't win a cup, even though he had won one everywhere else.

  2. Why do people keep on saying that it's too late for the Sabres to make a "hockey trade"?

The trade "deadline" is not a HARD deadline.  The teams can trade all they want. It's

just that the playoff teams cannot add to their rosters.   31 teams.  16 make it to playoffs.

15 teams left to make "hockey trades".

    :wallbash:

Where did you get this info from? Are you sure you're not thinking of Major League Baseball where teams can make trades after the deadline with players that clear waivers up until September 1st?

  3. I provided a detailed answer to this very inquiry from you in another thread, with no response. So it’s nice to know comments about the benefits of winning are going by the wayside. I’m not writing it all out again.

Serious question, how many times do the Sabres have to be terrible and draft top 10, with no improvement, until people admit that picking high is no guarantee of ANY kind of success?

If the Sabres are terrible again next year, after yet another high pick, will the refrain again be about losing to get a high picks? Lose for Hughes?

It’s doesnt necessarily work. It’s clearly not working for the Sabres.

I would start to wonder about the mouse than keeps going back and pushing that same button, even though it’s transmitting an electric shock every time it’s pushed.

It seemed to finally work for Edmonton last season but they regressed this season. Again, Vegas management showed how to put a good team together quickly. Granted they had expansion draft and a zero salary to start with but they have put together an impressive team.

  4. That was a back breaking goal. Sabres have a bad problem giving up late game tying goals. If they hold true to form, they will lose in OT.

I was going to bring it up and ask how many games the Sabres this season have given up the tying or lead goal in the last 2 mins. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s close to 20. Then they go and score the winning goal at the last second of OT. Good thing with Lehner’s track record in shootouts.

  5. I need to add the James Gang, Joe Walsh, Jeff Beck, Robert Plant, Frampton, John Fogerty, and Faces. Paul Simon’s wife is a one hit wonder, but it’s a great song. Squeeze is also interesting. 2 great songs, but are they “sponge worthy”?

Blind Faith is already on the list.

    Joe Satriani?

  6. Genesis - Invisible Touch

The Beatles - In My Life

Led Zeppelin - 10 Years Gone / What Is and What Should Never Be

I still think the greatest song ever recorded is Beast of Burden, and IMO this list can't be remotely complete without Queen and The Clash

    Never really liked Kashmir

Finally somebody that agrees with me on Kashmir. I have never understood why many people consider it their favorite Zeppelin song. There are dozens I would pick before it. I liked their early albums the best but over time have warmed up to several songs from Physical Graffiti and Presence.

    Starts at 16:00.

    Highlights

Stressed the importance of development of young players in Rochester.

Doesn’t want to create a vacuum of talent in Rochester when the Sabres make trades

Having discussions with teams daily about possible trades.

Teams still trying to figure out what they are doing. Over the next 30 days firm offers and asks will start coming in and going out

Believes players will get an opportunity in Buffalo for some games.

On Players such as Kane who are going to moved, believes that keeping player and agent in the loop

Haven’t ruled out a possibility of Gionta joining the organization, stating the door may be open. Enjoys the effect he has on the team.

Praises Ullmark states he wasn’t upset about the losing a shutout told Chris Taylor he is more concerned about winning. Sexton describes he as a steady rock in goal.

Likes the chemistry in room and although he is looking to improve the team he doesn’t want to hurt that

Moulson won’t be anywhere near Rochester.

Probably a bit early to discuss one and done with Casey, but if continues to progress at the rapid rate that he has, they will have a conversation with Casey and his Family. Not to put any pressure on Casey but he is an outstanding prospect he embodies everything that we believe a player needs to bring on The ice but more importantly he embodies everything it means to be a Sabre off the ice in his character, work ethic, personality and he believes they he has just scratched the surface of his potential.

Likes the depth of the 2018 Draft in particular for Sabres Organization who is looking to build depth. Says there are a few high end players as well

Says the Amerks are ahead of schedule and that the players have bought in and love it in Rochester

Says he took the job with Buffalo because he likes the challenge and he likes to build. Says the pieces are in place to be successful here. Need to find the right types of players through the draft, trades and free agency.

I believe it was Ink that first mentioned them, but Danger And Battaglia are light years ahead of the GR Afternoon Show

    There's an ESPN Rochester?

  8. Any decision on Phil won't be made in a vacuum. Russ has no idea how they're going to avoid a mass defection of season ticket holders. If he feels it's going to happen no matter what, they probably just ride it out. But if he thinks a sacrifice could stem the tide, look out Housley. What Russ can sell is Rochester, and their head coach. Phil could get a nice blue and golden parachute and say he needs to support his wife in her run for the Senate.

So, I wonder if you season ticket holders will get a renewal letter with another price increase? They should actually give you 20% off for putting up with this season.

I would copy a bunch of laugh sound bytes to a thumb drive and send it back in the renewal envelope.

  9. Amazing that half way thru the year, the 1st year Vegas Knights have the best record in the Western Conference and 2nd best overall while our horse$41€ team is only 3 pts ahead of the worst team. How can one management team create such a great team in a few months while another organization can't seem to make any moves that work?

  10. All the weak people moved to warmer climes.

When I graduated from college, there weren't many jobs in the Buffalo area. When I got an offer for a position in California that was for about 25% more than what my classmates got that were able to get an offer in WNY, it took about 2 secs to decide.

A high paying job in California vs No job in Buffalo with winter I didn't like. I think I made the SMART decision.

  11. Pouliot? Stepped right in off the Free Agent heap and surpassed Sam. Probably because he can skate. Plenty underperforming compared to expectations, but none so far as Sam, I'd wager.

If his skating has truly regressed, we are in an even worse spot with him. As the league is definitely trending faster. There is also only a much a player can do to improve their natural skating ability. Reinhart is a third year pro, what we see in his skating is what we are going to get.

So why was he rated so high for the draft when he can't skate? Didn't scouts recognize this?

  12. Have the Sabres ever been shut out before 3 straight games? Now what?

Well, fortunately for them, the NHL has been in business for a long time and the Sabres aren't even close to the record streak. The 1928-29 Chicago Blackhawks were shut out 8 games in a row on their way to being shutout 20 times in a 44 game season. That's really pathetic.

I expected this Sabres team to be scoring a lot more and even drafted Eichel in the 2nd round of my fantasy hockey draft and later drafted Ristolainen. I would not expect to get much in trading Jack but it's time to dump Risto.
