You're still looking at 4-5 years for a team that can maybe survive the first round if this is what you expect them to rely on. It's not sensible.

First and second line offense. The Sabres are strong on D and, I think, in net. Neither of those get you a Cup without scoring.

I don't disagree...the Blues' D is looking lackluster, but, come on, we've seen Miller steal games for a much worse team.

Chicago is exposing St. Louis' weaknesses right now. If this game is any indication, there is no way the Blues make it to the finals. I don't know if I can watch much more of this. The Blues are being schooled and I'd say at least two of those goals are poor reads or over-commitments by Miller. I feel embarrassed for him.

Where is the first and second line talent?

This draft talk is all academic (at best). The reality is that the Sabres' offensive prospect pool is full of third-liners, and regardless of changes to the rules, there is only a certain percentage chance of landing a franchise player. If the Sabres do land a franchise player, they are still without genuine first and second line talent for three plus years ( factoring in development). This is an utterly ridiculous, long term gamble that no one with sense could possibly look at and be content with. I anticipate a lot of activity by GMTM over the next year.

If these assessments of the Sabres' pool are accurate, then they are definitely not going to rely on the draft to rebuild the forward lines. In fact, I would go as far as to say that Tank Nation is fooling themselves...period.

I guess I should add D'agostini and Foligno to my list as well.

Imagine this team playing right here without the likes of Leino, McBain, Hodgson, Weber, Tallinder, Scott, and Mitchell, but instead with young, hungry players with more talent than the above list. Could be a pretty good team. Or not.
