  1. Those players are all better than anything we had to sell.
  2. I think Arizona got more #1 picks during this trading period because they had better players. We sold our better players off over the last few years. Arizona just started their tank. You can argue they had the top forward traded and the top one or two defenseman traded.
  3. I get that but at the end of the day we have lots of picks, space with the cap and a good set of prospects. While that second round pick may not see the NHL for seven years based on what I've seen from GMTM we will probably never use that pick.
  4. Why? Because it is three years away or because it is a second and you were expecting more?I'm fine with stocking the cupboard with future assets. more flexibility in the future when some of these prospects start turning pro.
  5. I get the feeling that most of these Canadian reporters won't be happy unless McDavid plays in Canada. They point to the Sabres but what about the sell off in Arizona or the lack of goaltending on the Oilers. Their dream is that the leafs win the McDavid sweeps.
  6. So the two goalies for the NYI were traded for each other last year and were both members of the Sabres at last years deadline?
  7. At this point this is what I'm hoping for. Take what you can get on the other guys. I think Stewart would be alright next to a good center like Reinhart.
  8. That Boston trade was exactly the trade I wanted the Sabres to make at the draft. I thought Tampa would want Connolly for the playoff run. From a Boston perspective that is a decent young power forward that will be relatively cheap as an RFA. I worry GMTM held his hand too long. With players like glencross, Connolly and cole out there all being similar players it hurt stewarts value. I think what could really hurt this seasons tank job is everybody else's willingness to throw in the towel and sell.
  9. He may have promised a spot in the lineup to showcase themselves for their next contract or the trade deadline.
  10. As someone who reads more than they post on this site I appreciate all the posts people.....post. These discussions have information before any other site because of how informed many of the people are here. Heck, at one point I relied on Hockeybuzz for my news and rumors. this message board has information much faster than that guy.
  11. I agree Subban should be our target but Boston has said that he will not be traded. I was thinking the trade wild be something like Stewart + for a 1st or Stewart + for Spooner(the rumored offer) plus 2nd. If we get their 1st I hope we trade Neuvirth to the Flyers. Their goaltending is awful and they could push the Bruins out of the playoffs.
  12. Makes me think either they are showcasing Neuvirth or they are flipping Lindback and don't want to put him out there.
  13. Agreed. At 20 you don't really know what you have perhaps ceiling would better describe his potential.
  14. A prospect that still projects to be a second line winger and is reunited with his former coach plus a first round pick for a good player that in all likelihood may end up being a one year rental. That seems fair. I think people here have soured on Grigorenko because he hasn't lived up to the hype. He is only 20. You can add conditions to the trade as well depending on if he signs. Patrick Sharp is rumored to be available in the offseason. Would anyone want him? What about a young RFA from LA or Tampa Bay? There will be options at the draft to fill out the team. Kris Versteeg, Patrick Berglund, TJ Oshie were all rumored this past year. These teams have cap issues and solid players to ship out. We can focus on any one or two of these players for some of the packages proposed for O'Reilly. He is good not great and he comes with risk.
  15. I don't understand why we would include Ennis. He is a good player, brings it every shift and locked up at a good price. I think people want O'Reilly because he will bring us that with more defense and potentially a much shorter term. If we land McEichel Grigorenko is suddenly expendable. Grigorenko and a 1st for O'Reilly and a future pick if he doesn't resign is fair.
  16. Before the trade didn't Staal say he wanted to play in Carolina with his brother? That price paid would essentially be the price to get him a year early. I remember thinking it was crazy since they knew they would get him in a year anyway.
  17. As much as I like Ryan O'Reilly I don't want to see us give up several assets for what could essentially be a one year rental. If the Sabres do this I think it would be around the draft and expect a contract extension soon after.
  18. You could be right. I'm just rooting for the kid. He has had a rough beginning thanks to Darcy.
  19. I don't think now is the time they need to address RW for next year. We should be in good position to trade picks/prospects for NHL ready players at the draft especially if the rumors about the cap being relatively flat are true. The kid is only 20. If he were to be traded I hope we get something significant in return. Also, I think the fact that he is here and Armia is in Winnipeg may be telling of what GMTM thinks of him.
  20. It is very similar to the video in that thread. While I can't say that Nolan is or isn't on the same page the tear down and rebuild of the team and the very "curious" coaching decisions are all part of the reason people thought the Penguins were tanking. I would look it up but I only have access to sabrespace on my phone.
  21. There was a post here about a year ago about how the Penguins tanked to get Mario Lemieux. Part of the reasons people felt they were obviously tanking was the db coaching decisions. Talented players being benched, bad defensive players starting in the d zone while bad I players starting in the I zone... This season just reminds me exactly of that 30 minute show.
  22. With the rumors out there about Boston being interested what kind of package would it take to pry Subban? If Murray could pull that off this rebuild would take another giant step forward.
  23. I don't think they get a first for Stewart, probably a second. I also don't think they use all the picks they have or accumulate. I think a trade or two will happen at the draft for NHL starters of cap teams. I'm thinking Bickell from Chicago or Connolly from Tampa.
  24. This reminds me of the Pominville trade when everyone said we won the trade with the Wild. A 30 goal scorer for picks and prospects. The prospects haven't done anything. The trade is essentially Pominville for Zadorov and until we know what he is the jury is still out. I think Myers for Bogo is a wash so Kane gets a local whipping boy a 1st and some prospects. Anybody have info on the goalie?
