Look to the Islanders, Elaine, look to the Islanders
darksabre replied to PASabreFan's topic in The Aud Club
Probably not, and all it takes is to look at the way the Islanders spend their money. https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/islanders They've spent heavily, but not wildly, on good forward depth. They've limited spending on defense and goaltending. This is exactly what I advocated for in the Dahlin trade thread. -

That was a terrible goal to give up by the BJs goalie lol -
Wonder what the NHL thinks of the state of its franchise in Buffalo
darksabre replied to PASabreFan's topic in The Aud Club
You got it dude. We were sitting here in the summer going "he needs to do something in August" and then it was September, and October, and November and... Nothing. The things that were broken are still broken. And then new things broke on top of that. -
There's no reason not to suggest these things. This team has patted itself on the back repeatedly for hiring "great hockey minds" only for them to turn out to be huge boobs. Making Krueger a GM and coach is not an outrageous idea given that, at this point, a child with a magic 8 ball would probably have done a better job than these hand-picked "hockey minds".

This, ultimately, is the root of the problem. The O'Reilly trade is never going away now. It's become a massive stain on both Botterill and the Pegulas. If Botterill makes that bad trade all on his own and sets the team back years, then at least ownership can point the finger at him. But they were very clearly involved in that trade and they can't hold their own GM accountable because of it now. Bad stuff.

PSE's version of damage control is just amazing. How many people are being paid exorbitant salaries to sit around a room and say "how can we make this worse?" -

From Vogl in The Athletic today: https://theathletic.com/1574432/2020/01/31/the-sabres-are-a-broken-organization-and-one-fans-radio-rant-has-given-a-voice-to-everyone-who-is-sick-of-it/ Hi @PASabreFan -
Is there a Rasmus Dahlin Blockbuster trade to be had?
darksabre replied to inkman's topic in The Aud Club
You have to build a team, and you need money to do that. Teams overspend on the wrong positions often enough that it's become crystal clear to me that the only place you should spend the bulk of your cap is on forwards. Dahlin's future salary could pay for two perfectly good defensemen if he ends up getting something like 11 million per. That's just too much for one defenseman. Guys like Weber, Suter, Subban, Karlsson, what are they really worth? -

I found a hidden stash of Genesee 12 Horse at Wegmans the other night and bought 5 cases. Should be enough to get me to Genny Kolsch season with a little help from Genny Bock.

It's pretty bad! Frankly, they should try to trade Burns.

I love how the Sharks, who have $32 million in cap tied up on defense (the most in the league), have one of the worse goal differentials in the league.

I think what gets me about our friend Duane here is that you can hear him calculating whether or not he wants to be the guy who calls in and raises his voice on a sports radio show. He's very clearly trying not to be "that guy" at the beginning of the call; he's self-aware. He's probably listened to plenty of sports talk where guys call in and rant and he knows those guys usually sound foolish. He weighs it out in real time. You can feel it. You can visualize him throwing his hands up in pure, honest frustration and saying "screw it". The hangup is what seals it. He knows as soon as he's done that he's crossed a threshold he never wanted to cross. You can hear the shame in his voice. He shouldn't feel bad about it, and he probably doesn't by now. But in the moment you could tell he did. And that's what makes it so genuine.
