It never needed to be like this. This team, with basically zero scoring depth, was 8 points out of playoff spot coming into tonight. They could have been closer if Botterill was worth a damn.

Not to defend Hutton too much, but he's definitely been the victim of some really sloppy play in our end tonight. Ottawa is bad, but they appear to match up well against us for whatever reason. They're fast and that's about it, but it's enough to get us running around.

The Sabres, despite injuries and a roster nearly devoid of offensive talent, have somehow hung in there. It would be a shame if Botterill didn't find a way to reward them with a little help and the chance to make a run.

They only need to find one player to give this team a chance and show the players, especially Eichel, that management believes in them. One second line forward would be enough. I don't think they have to "jeopardize the future" to accomplish that.

I think that depends on how the story ends.
