This is why Adams has to get a goaltender in order for his plan this year to work.

The team is skating fast and playing hard, but not executing very well.

Good goaltending has them down 2-1 or 3-1 with the game very much in reach and the youngsters still feeling empowered to try things and gain confidence.

Bad goaltending and they start squeezing sticks, rushing things or backing off.

It’s hockey psychology 101 and if Anderson or Dell can’t step up, Adams needs to be held accountable.

Don't expect any changes to the goaltending situation. These guys will just have to accept that there's no help coming, either in net or anywhere else on the ice. It'll suck at first but they'll get used to it, expectations will be adjusted accordingly, and playing for moral victories will be the raison d'etre.

No Around the NHL thread so I'll throw this in here. Just heard a name from the past.

Max Willman signed with Philly 1yr $750k in the offseason and is playing tonight v Bs.

Pick # 121 of the 5th round of the 2014 draft.

Took a while to get here huh?

There is a thread it's just not pinned yet for some reason

Edit: what the hell. I started one the other day and it's just... Gone?

The real question should be "How many more seasons until Skinners contract is bought out?" - this thing is going to look like Okposo on steroids in a few years.

It'll screw their cap hit up in 2026-27 but I don't know if they can afford to keep him around for 5 more seasons after this one.

I know I've been in the minority around here, but I think Skinner has been ineffective for a long time now.

He didn't produce away from Eichel; he didn't even really produce his last few stints with Eichel. And he's not getting anyone remotely like Eichel to play with now.

I just haven't seen any signs of him turning this around. Hope I'm wrong, but I think he will continue to be a non-factor.

I'm with you. I think he's toast. He should have bounced back last year if it was going to happen at all. I think that ankle injury ruined him.

I hear what you're saying, but looking at him his skating seems fine. I don't see any signs that he is on a bad ankle or anything like that.

Skinner's never been known as a hard worker and if you were him, would you put out your all on what is clearly a dismantled tank team that will likely suck for multiple years before the kids all step up (if) or would you just float and cash your cheques and maybe even hope for a buy out so you can go play for the Leafs for cheap? or just cash the cheques and stay home. Either way, I don't think it's an injury, and certainly not a permanent one which would be what it would have to be after 2 years.

I don't think his skating looks good at all. He's constantly getting knocked down and he doesn't seem nearly as agile as in the past. Either he's unable to skate like he used to or it's in his head.

It definitely happened around that time.

He was bad to finish the season and everyone forgave him because he was so good in the first half.

He was bad the next season and everyone blamed Krueger.

He was bad last season and everyone blamed Krueger.

He was bad after Krueger got fired and everyone blamed Krueger.

This isn't a new thing at all.

The problem becomes what to do about it. If Skinner is injured so badly he basically can't play at the level he was when he signed the contract what do you do with him?

Well there's been a number of theories and excuses for Skinner but the simple fact is he has sucked since he signed the fat contract.

I want to point to one specific thing that has been prescient, which is that his play fell off a cliff after he rolled his ankle against the Capitals on February, 23 2019. A lot of us were there that night because it was the Sabrespace Meetup Game. If you look at his game log he literally hasn't been the same since that night. Something happened.

Maybe, but I'd say at least half of it is. You had your goalie, 2/3 of your D likely  and at least half your forwards. Starting the season, likely not ending it.

He's too young to be washed. The only conclusion I can make is he doesn't care and likely never did. Only plays when he wants to, and he doesn't really want to, he's just in it for the cash.

I don't see that at all with Jeff. By all accounts he's a team player and well liked.

People criticized Jack for being lazy when it was very clear that he was willing but unable, and I see the same thing here. Skinner is trying, but he just doesn't seem to have that extra gear anymore. Maybe he just needs a few games to get going, but I admit that I'm worried.
