  1. They'd eat you alive at TSW... :chris:

    A good reason I don't go there, it's a madhouse.

TSW is to Sabrespace what pbnation.com is to mcarterbrown.com. pbnation is a cesspool of cracked out, angsty teenagers talking about flashlights you can put your dick in, and occasionally conversation about paintball, but it's not recommended, despite what the title claims. mcarterbrown is a nice, relaxing, mature forum that smells of pipe smoke and fine whiskey, sorta like sabrespace, only here it smells like crisp ice and chicken wings, and sometimes inkman after he goes for a run.

And I like making fun of college hockey programs that are in their infancy.

    Why I aughta! :chris:

  2. What the hell are you talking about this time?

XC, seriously, I think you're a good guy, and I really like your hockey-related input, but who the hell was talking about Wallis or Campolo (BTW, I have no idea who these people are; as likely as not, they're complete twits), or accusing people of having agendas?

Everyone has their hobbies I suppose. Crosschecking's seems to be keeping up on anything remotely related to religion which is fine, honest.

But there's the idea that when complaining about something to a group of people you don't personally know, you want to connect with them on a mutual level. I play paintball, and hockey, and disc golf, and like RIT hockey, and obscure music and muscle cars, and wrenching on my vintage Honda motorcycle. If I come in here complaining about how Anton Kharin didn't show up in the last game, people might have a vague idea what I'm talking about, but there's no real connection. No one knows who Anton is. If I complain about how I'm pissed that Smart Parts keeps suing people over bogus copyright claims again, no one knows what I'm talking about. If I start b*tching about how much of a pain it was to clean my centrifugal oil filter, no one knows what I'm talking about.

I may have a completely valid complaint that has me all heated, but this isn't the place to express that particular complaint. Here is where I complain about life, and the Sabres. I save paintball, motorcycle stuff, legitimate life problems, etc. for mcarterbrown.com, and RIT hockey for USCHO.com. I guess it's just a matter of making the point, once again, that in depth religious discussion really doesn't fit on this particular forum. This isn't a large enough forum to have enough people willing to discuss it. And even on most large forums I frequent (mcarterbrown.com), they have sort of a "don't touch this subject" policy when it comes to religion and politics.

What am I getting at? I think it's a matter of taking a moment to think about whether the place you're posting something is the appropriate forum. In this crazy world of internets, it does sort of matter.

  3. I did that the first year I was here in NC. Then the "yellow death" of pine tree pollen hit. One day of leaving our windows open in early spring had everything in the house covered with a thick yellow residue. You can always tell who the newer northern transplants are in the neighborhood by looking for houses with their windows open during pollen season.

We actually got that here in Rochester last year, I had never seen anything like it before. I've lived around woods and pine trees my whole life but last spring was sooo dry that it just blew around and collected on everything. Not that this spring hasn't been obscenely dry too, we're already 2" below the norm for the season. Although some nice rain the past few days is attempting to bring my front lawn back to life.

Not the manliest song ever but I love it!

Replace the singers with Marty and Miller and try not to laugh.

  5. People who pay for things with checks at the grocery store, during the busiest time of the afternoon, in the 7 items or less lane. Thank you for not only being a troglodyte, but for being completely inconsiderate to everyone else around you. If you're going to pay for three tubs of cool whip and a box of strawberries with a check, go stand in one of the "I have a cart full of sh*t" lines where everyone expects it to take forever. My 85 year old grandfather can at least use a Debit card, what's so hard about it? I'm a pretty patient person, but this is friggin 2009, let's get with the times. :censored:

  6. It doesn't get any better than NHL '93 for sega genesis. Just stick with that and you can play it for free on your computer, no $300 gaming system needed.

amen, emulators are the sh*t. i'd never get through class without SEGA NHL 96.

  7. I thought I heard somewhere that spacehog was getting back together. Not sure that means anything though...

I think I also heard this. Wiki confirms that they might be working on an album.

It was rumored for a while that the singer of Spacehog was going to be the new Velvet Revolver lead man, but that has been denied by VR.

  8. I can't believe I'm saying this, but does anyone miss 90's rock? Man, I'm starting to feel old. I miss the old Goo. Sure, I'm still a fan of them, but I wish they'd go back to "A Boy Named Goo" style of music. "Name" changed the group completely, and it paved the road to "Dizzy Up the Girl."

I am a child of 90's rock, so for me there is nothing better. I swear to god there is no alt rock song from the 90s that I don't know, I think I've literally heard it all.

This is the first song I can remember hearing on the radio in the 90s. I was 8 (I know right?) and it was all down hill for me from there. B-)

About 4 years ago I went on a search to rediscover a lot of 90s music that I remembered but had no idea who did it or what it was. It was quite an adventure. A couple gems including:

  9. You'll probably enjoy this one too then, unfortunately it's on an earlier album of theirs.

Remember the days when everyone held up their lighters? Now it's freaking cell phones  If I ever had a singer in any of my bands like this I might still be playing.

Really powerful singers are definitely hard to come across. The best live signing performance I've ever heard was Disturbed, man does that guy have some pipes on him.

Youtube videos just don't do it justice.

  10. The marimba player who only plays on the up beats definitely has the hardest part.

On another more horrifying note(pun intended), this song has been running through my head ALL DAY.

The true spirit of this thread. My god, what was that?

And just so I'm playing by the rules:

  11. You really have come in to your own. I enjoy your opinions. That is my anticomplaint.

    daww thanks! (i think  )

Well, what can I say? That's why this thread is called "Complaint Thursday". It's a free-for-all.

A few weeks ago, someone other than me complained about Gov. David Patterson. I may be the sore thumb sometimes, but there are others who either fly under the radar or get a pass.

I remember the Gov. Patterson comment, but it went relatively un-discussed and most aren't repeat offenders when it comes to posting things that may touch a nerve. Your posts have a special way of getting to people, I am sorry to say.

I don't know. Next to "nothing"?

 "how much noise do you make?" "NOTHING!"

Actually I bet Jerry Seinfeld's high pitched whining probably touches some sensitive frequency in sleeping humans, similar to a dog whistle. They can't help but run wildly to the phone, slobbering all over, to file a noise complaint.

  12. I can't stand these guys either. I just don't see what makes them so great. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImrtZRrS70w

The greatness of Motorhead really has to do with how they were the key transition between classic rock and modern rock. If it weren't for Motorhead we would never have had metal, grunge, or punk. They're an icon because they were a musical catalyst.

And because Lemmy Kilmister has the world's best facial hair. :D

  13. My complaint is that as much as I want to like the guy, Crosschecking still doesn't get that politics and religion are issues that are best left unmentioned in the world of the internet. I'm a member of a few boards where the mods try to keep it mature, and if there's two things that makes forums turn to sh*t shows, it's politics and religion. Grown men, who could be best internet pals, posting in fits of rage, slinging insults at one another.

Here's the way I see it: If you can't post with out mentioning either of the two, then don't post at all. Because there is no way either topic can be discussed in a mature manner, anywhere on the internet, because someone will always be offended or take it too seriously.

  14. So technically he'd still be paying for the coffee.

Sure, but it's the principle of the matter.

Ha... one meeting later and now our health insurance is going up. Ten minutes earlier, in the same meeting, the said that we made record profits this quarter..... but our health costs are going up? They went on to tell us we need to exercise more because they're worried about our health. Translated? Stop costing us money!

Gotta love it. The place I was working at before I went back to school was turning profit like no one's business, but because their sister companies weren't doing well, it cost everyone at this place their year end bonus, even though they had been working their off and more than quadrupled their production rates. Hard work doesn't always pay off unfortunately, and it hurts everyone except the guys telling you you won't be getting a bonus this year.

  15. The nickel and diming here at work... we've had this swamp water coffee machine for years, but it was free. We got a fancy new one today, with a "50 cents per 7 oz cup" slot. Starbucks is cheaper than that!

No one should ever have to pay for coffee at work.

Bring in your own and put it next to that one. BYO grounds.
