  1. By far the best article I have read on the topic all season.

Are you serious? It's garbage. Criticizing fans who cheered for the Coyotes in the frickin' arena does not imply that fans who want the Sabres to lose should be criticized. The article was one giant strawman, and a poorly written one at that.

Love the caption under the photo of those fans. "These fans aren't wrong." Why are these schmucks always looking backwards into the crowd, needling? Trolls. Nothing more.

  2. Didn't John Tucker or Dave Andreychuk score 4 goals in a game on Easter?

Tucker did it right around Easter in 1988. Playoff game against the Bruins at the Aud. Not sure if he did it another time. Or about Andreychuk, who had five one time of course. But that was in February, also against Boston.

Are you thinking about Barnaby's hat trick on Mother's Day? :)

  3. Sorry man, but he isn't the consolation prize, he is the goal.  If you think otherwise then you have been misinformed badly, and statistics agree that McDavid is a silly goal since he can't be guaranteed.

I like how we had a garbage core, and we tore it down to rebuild and to build a new core.  And somehow that core has been perverted to some fans thinking these past two years are for McEichel (or just mcdavid)

It has to have been about McEichel. Any other explanation, if we get neither, is revisionist history. It was about getting elite talent. Reinhart's up there. But this doesn't work (Cup) without one of the big two. Or at least it takes a lot longer to work, and is a lot dicier.

  4. There have been five.

Have at it. And no cheating. I'm the only one who can cheat.

One should jump right out at a lot of fans, even the youngins. Oh, what a cruel day it was, on so many levels. The others are tough. Anyone who gets all five will have their bodily orifices comprehensively searched.

  5. Back to this season, we're down to just two possible outcomes:

    1. Sabres finish the tank and finish 30th.

    2. Sabres beat incredible odds to finish 29th, resulting in the literally the worst ending of any Buffalo sports season ever.

Oh, Rob. Robviously, the rally cap poster of SabreSpace. IMHO, our MVP for two straight seasons.

Even with last year's odds, I wouldn't be thinking about the benefit of losses until the very end (if things were not to progress much from this year.)  With the new odds, might as well cheer for wins to the end.

Weird. I guess there's nothing logical about any of this. Surprised this would come from someone who's so analytical.

Amen! As much as it sickens me to ever pull for Carolina, a regulation loss on Monday would mean that everyone could finally exhale. It would be fantastic for the fans to be able to actually cheer for the team to win on Saturday and rid themselves of a year's plus worth of pent up frustration. It would be a well-deserved party and the tankers & anti-tankers could finally kiss and make up.

Putting aside the idea that Sabres fans aren't exactly the type to cheer for crummy teams — or cheer, period; howdy Eleven — I'm afraid if there was some outpouring of support, it would be taken as more salt in the wound for the players. Wouldn't it come off as "good job, guys, tank you, Sabres"?

  6. Yep. We have nowhere to go but up from here. As much as I am looking forward to the possibility (I will not jinx it by not including possibility) of McEichel I am looking just as forward to everyone from management to the fans knowing that this is it. No more tanking. No more accepting (and hoping for) last place finishes.

That excites me as much as the thought of any one player coming here.

I wonder if this is how Pens fans felt when they got Crosby, only to see their team finish with 58 points his first season, same point total as their previous season. They finished one point out of 30th, so I'm sure there was no rooting for losses down the stretch with Erik Johnson, Jordan Staal and Jonathan Toews in that draft class.

This feels like one of those horror movies where the killer is dead, the light music is playing and the final credits seem ready to scroll, then...

  7. Today marks the day that my personal Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, died for my sins and, in so doing, made it possible for me to pass through the gates of heaven when I shuffle off this mortal coil.

Hmmm. Someone called Schopp today and used the term "mortal coil." He expressed a fear that he was nearing the same fate as his forefathers — death without a Cup. He said he wants a championship before he and his fellow Baby Boomers leave this mortal coil. It was a good call and Schopp seemed near-gruntled. I like to think it was Hizzoner.

  8. oops

There were no clues it was sarcasm. I just felt like being someone else for a second. In all honesty, nothing would shock me. They might rig it. I just can't bring myself to think it or believe it. By the same token I will never believe the league planned to help Dallas win that Cup, or that refs favor one team or another at the behest of the league. I can't believe any of that and continue to be a fan. Head in sand? Mayhaps.

  9. Why does the league have to cut between when balls are popped?

The boneheads in the league office can't even get a Youtube video right.

Oh, my goodness Taro. That video is hilarious. SNL couldn't have produced a better parody of a league rigging a drawing. All that's missing is Marty Short's sleazy, flop-sweating, chain-smoking lawyer character. Unbelievable.

It will be controversial because of the stakes, but not pre-determined.

I don't think it's predetermined. Your sarcasm hopper is down.
